I'd say that was a preety reasonable way to go.. also the advantage of SIMS could be delivered to the curriculum machines fairly easily too. And if you do do a larger deployment of SIMS, you can up to full blown SQL Server later. SIMS (and I think all MIS) are inherently client-server applications - not peer to peer ones. Peer to peer networking, from a users point of view can be a fairly frustating experience.. as in, the SIMS SQL Express server grinds to a halt because the other user is currently working on a massive powerpoint or publisher file - or indeed, the machine locks up, so so does the other person's SIMS setup.

Ideally you'd get a server.. and a seperate workstation.

Powerpoint.. yes... but Premier???? Your going to need some serious throughput for Premier..

roughly, cmis's timetable structure works like this: event specs are created - these can overlay depending on year group, etc; generally they wouldnt - most schools would have one! -> this would be used however, if you have different finish/start/break times for different year groups students are members of a teaching group (STUGROUPS i think); teaching group events are set on the timetable (TIMETABLE) - each event is allocated a LecturerId (see LECTDETS) - generally this refers to length, number of periods, roomings and week/time Facility works on a week by week basis. There is a table (i cant recall it) that defines what week a certain day is in - and therefore you need to look that up first. Hope that makes sense. Kyle

FMS does payroll doesnt it? You might want to contract it out too to one of the many accounting firms. Not forgetting you'll have teacher's pensions and LGPS to deal with too. However, Sage and MyOB make some good products if you definatley want it in-house. Kyle

extend out your existing scope and then add reservations, ie: extend the scope to 220 and then make sure the last 20 are reserved addresses.

Generally, something like IBM Tivoli or Veritas BackupExec will do this for you..

If your LA supported - ask them for the serco manuals. If your not supported by the LA, Ask your Serco "Relationship Manager" for a login to this site: http://home.teknical.com/LearningSystem/PortalHome/Portal.asp?Institution=sercotpwhich should have alll the manuals etc that you will require.. This also includes the training database, so you can follow the courses through on your own too. Kyle
