I'd recommend the terminal services route too - but if the vast majority of staff are just using it for registration, id go with the webparts. Full on migration to something like Hebron is a nice thought, but it's alot of work on top of a school wide OS change. Kyle

You should really have a firewall round all corridors - or for instance, above fire doors so areas become zones. I'd recommend you got one installed - especially in a server room - if you get a fire in that void it'll be through the building in minutes. As for boring holes through, you can always fill the gaps up with fire retardent expanding form.

To add to that, you should be able to add an extra field onto the CMIS student dialog that allows you to enter "special dietary requirements" or similar - it should then be possible to run an access app or indeed excel (excel supports sql, i seem to remember!) spreadsheet to pick out the data you want. Thanks for this. the computers in the class can only be joined to 1 domain at a time if i am right. i suppose they will have to have 2 hard disk and a boot option for either the schools hd or our hd Theres some software you can to switch between two domains, or you can use lockable hard drive cradles in a 5.25" slot - or indeed, a dual boot.

Well - we've had smartboards and found that the pens have worked out better in the classroom - at least the pen gives you control.

Only one pen to loose with Hitachi! Pathetic I know, but they seem more suited to our needs. The Promethean software looks excellent in any case, especially ACTIVprimary.

If your luklcy you can get a domain trust relationship. If not, you might be able to do this, but it's messy - its possible you could physically 'switch' the network uplink across if you can get your ten rooms on a seperate switch - and have seperate cradled hard drives to switch them over. Alot of this depends of course, on getting access to the outsourced IT agreement before it gets accepted. Kyle

You shouldnt ban students from ICT for a classroom discpline issue (such as playing games etc) - but only for actual *abuses* of the system..

Don't forget they need to be the same type of fibre too.. (singlemode, multimode, all the other various sub categories)

It's a health and safety thing - not only is the dump likely to happen. but in effect it means that people wouldnt be able to wash thier hands etc - canteen couldnt open because food couldnt be prepared etc. Theres a massive risk of the spread of infection.

im not sure this is even advisable let alone possible. For instance, students from one school to another will need new candidate number data, new unique student id, potential new UCIs - and if the LEA run EMS it will need to see a child leaving one instiution and entering another. The chances of this working properley are preety slim. Your best approach is either a) if its a total new school (ie: a new DSCF number), mark everyone as left on the two seperate SIMS.NET systems and transferring to the new DSCF number - do this properley via the securegateway site with a CTF file b) if one school is staying "open" in legal terms - same DSCF number, transfer the students across via CTF
