We've got a similar system to Ric - we've used IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager Express for the job - it does our SQL Server too. It then copies down to tape and we've again got a Lto2 autoloader. Kyle

Stese - do you know if the "middle of February" trade union ballot happened? As far as i can see, there are three grades "ICT Network Manager", "ICT Assistant" and "ICT Technican" - but no salary grades for each post have seemed to have been published yet. Kyle

HCC decided initally to run this through its maintained schools - foundation schools come next. In a maintained school, the LA is the employeer and therefore the equal pay aspects are the LA's responsibility. In a foundation school, the governing body is the employeer and therefore the equal pay responsiblity falls to them. I imagine it would be easier to make a case to the governing body instead of County. Kyle

Would go with that view too :- We're a Ranger school (we've got Ranger for networks & Ranger Remote) and we've had it since around v3 (1998ish i think) - before my time for sure. @Kyle - I can understand where you might think this but with experience you will realise that being line managed by somebody younger is not a problem unless you both make it one. It doesn't bother me personally but there are obviously cases where people *have* made it a problem. Kyle

I'll be 21 in June - our ICT Services structure is a bit out of the ordinary I guess - we have a Network Manager and we also have a IT Assistant. My role falls somewhere between that in that I do most of our planning/budgetary management etc, although I don't directly line manage anybody. Our IT Assistant is about 6 months younger than me and is on a student apprenticeship. I think Line Managing somebody older is always going to be a problem, particulary somebody who might see you as 'being brought in over thier head' Kyle

We've got access to *most* of the internal doors (all classrooms, and some offices). Key IT Areas (our spaces) are number coded. We've also got keys to one outbuilding that's often kept locked during the day. Our place is open from 8:00-4:30 monday-friday excluding the bank holidays and the 3 days at christmas.

All goods points, but they still dont answer the problem we seem to have * Something that takes less than 25 seconds to train on * Something that is secure, but doesnt need a password * Something that can't be demolished * Something that is live * Something that cant be lost (student cards, etc) As it happens, we use CMIS & ePortal. For Cover, when internal staff are on cover, it does assign them as being on cover for registration. PARS has a cover module too, but again ,the problems above come into effect. Kyle
