I'm surprised / saddened by the replies so far. This post was put in the comments and suggestions area for a reason - it is purely a suggestion, and open to comments. I didn't think it would appear SO negative! Mark, I'm not suggesting that the main focus of the site should be changed and not allow anyone to join. It's the reason I joined in the first place which is probably the same for a large proportion of other members. What I’m saying is, in my opinion, it would be nice to be able to post in an area that only verified users in similar roles to ourselves could contribute. Sometimes it would be entirely appropriate to wish to post something which you don't want current / ex-students (or ex-workers for that fact) to be able to see. All I'm suggesting is that 1) the functionality would be nice and 2) the creator of the thread might be able to have the option to choose themselves. Your final sentence about being worried / sorting out issues is completely out of context (if aimed at me) and does not apply at all. I have never posted anything that I would be unwilling to say in any of my work environments. The only reason I stay reasonably anonymous is so that anyone with a specific negative agenda (perhaps a pupil wanting to know what technologies we use, or pinpoint any vulnerabilities we may have at some point) would be unable to find me easily. If I may reply with an equally blunt, but entirely appropriate remark, I would suggest that in this wonderful public forum which you value so highly you perhaps consider the tone of your responses so as not to alienate the people you seek to assist or receive help from.

I'm convinced I've read this being touched on in another thread but despite hefty searches can't find it! Would it be possible to create a secure area (in terms of who can view / submit, not in terms of SSL) that ONLY users who have been confirmed as working in schools, or working in registered companies could enter, view and submit messages? Thinking more technically, would it be possible to develop a system where existing forums are still used but are unaccessible to unverified users? Obviously this facility would require additional administrative effort (for which I'm more than willing to volunteer!), but the system would allow users the peace of mind when posting messages. The worst case scenario would see users have to email / fax to have their position verified (which again, I'd volunteer to assist with), but I'm sure this could be adapted and made easier if we pooled ideas? The concept might be viewed as slightly controversial as one could argue that EduGeek's popularity is partly based on the fact that anyone can (and does) contribute, which I wouldn't want to stop. Having a separate secure area that users could choose to post to as an alternative to the public areas would allow the users to make informed choices about who they wanted to see their messages - and generally increasing user choice leads to positives! What do others think?

It's not a proper answer to your question, more of a way around that works for me. I had the same claim (grr!) and ended up going to 123-reg.co.uk and buying schoolname.co.uk and setting up forwarding of all email @schoolname.co.uk to [email protected] Works perfectly for us.

I love it when people say this! How is it throwing your money away? 1) You generally pay less rent than you would if you owned the same house and had a mortgage aquired today 2) You don't have to place a large deposit to rent a decent house 3) Once you've bought your house and circumstances change (kids, area, want something new etc) you have to wait to sell, sometimes making a loss, very stressful etc before you move. Renting you just move 4) How many people pay off their house? How many end up always remortgaging? How many fall in to difficulties? How many get re-posessed? Renting cures all of that 5) If you loose your job or take a pay cut then your mortgage company won't care and your stuck. If you rent in that situation then you move to somewhere more affordable I'm sure I could list more (those are straight off the top of my head - I have this discussion regulaly with my assistant!!) I looked up details on the meeting I had and it was specifically a Cornwall Partnership project then. It might be that this linked in with something nationally too? Oh well, at least he's removed them! I'm not sure about this $200 malarky though... He might just be tugging on the old heart strings! Interesting.... I had a meeting / advice session with someone from some LA related/affiliated sports group about creating a survey on that site. I specifically said about concerns over not requesting that kind of data, and went further by saying if it was asked for then we wouldn't run the survey! I wonder if it is the same people? (I'll go off and find out the orginistation name and post back...)

Are the sentances fact, fiction, opinion or deformation? If it's something like "I hated my time at this school" there's nothing more you could do. If it's something like "This school is rubbish" you could probably force a change of words If it's somethink like "Do not go to this school - they're idiots - hate kids - don't teach properly" then you could probably get her removed. Depending on the circumstance and what was being said I'd be inclined to contact her and discuss it.

I'd be interested in testing if you require it? I have seperate systems in use for helpdesk and booking but neither are amazing - definately interested in something better or potentially customisable

Lol it's ok - i'm hard to offend anyway! I agree partly on the "it's not my job" statement, but the flip side is exactly what you've gone on to say. You've been busy with lots of other work that only you yourself could do, whereas the teacher (or anyone else in the world) could flag the video. I wouldn't take the "it's not my job" stance, I'd take the "it's not appropriate for me to do versus other things" stance.

I have to admit I'm 50/50 on this one... I originally repsonded with a response to help the OP.... but I'm not sure I'd do this myself in the same situation. If a teacher (here, down the road or anywhere else in the world) can't control a class and happens to be unfortunate enough to have the situation video'd, then I don't have much sympathy. If they were a better teacher they 1) wouldn't get in the sitation in the first place and 2) wouldn't have anything to worry about as the video would simply demonstrate grade1 teaching!

How's this for a stroke of coincidence - I had to have three videos removed from there yesterday too. Just create a YouTube account and then click on the Flag icon underneath the video and choose the appropriate reason for flagging it. Within an hour mine were removed. I've heard some people say that it takes a few flags for them to do it quickly - so I made my submission three times per video! Alternatively [email protected] is meant to work - but I haven't tested. Hope this helps?

No one by the sound of it! I have sympathy. Once upon a time I was in a similar situation like this. Thankfully it was eventually resolved (only through lots of effort, running around in circles, upgrades etc etc) What part of the country are you in?

+1 for jdiskreport - good software! For a more reliable long-term solution you should investigate the use of Disk Quota on your server.

Well.... the .vbs(?) files that you run at startup? I'm not too hot on vbs (or any programming language other than HTML / CSS for that matter!) but assume you wouldn't just type in the raw commands that you put in your post would you?

As far as I know Stone don't build / badge their own laptops? I assume you mean the laptops are Samsung? Have you contacted their support guys and arranged for someone to come out? I am always suprised when I hear something like this - I've got hundreds of their kit on site and from the handful of issues i've had they've always turned up next day to sort them out.

Moodle won't give you access to it's file structure no. You'll need to get in touch with them and exaplain the problem as above with the solution I gave. If they aren't happy to give you access (which I'd fight for if I was you!) then they could follow the instructions themselves to correct the issue for you.

Or an internal server!

I've had this several times. Just browse to ....MoodleInstallationDirectory\Theme\ThemeYouAreUsing\pix\f\ then locate the appropriate icon file, copy it, paste it and rename it to whatever the shortcut wants it to be (i.e click on the dead link / red cross icon on your moodle page, choose properties and see what the file should be called)

DEFINATELY agree! I used to laugh and think "why do I really need 2 monitors", but can't imagine working without them now. SO much better - makes things far easier. Now ver affordable too with the range of graphics cards on the market with dual monitor support

I can't think of any reason for them to disappear really. Do the event logs show anything worrying? The only options I have set up are: 003 Router 006 DNS Server 015 DNS Domain Name 060 ClassID (PXE) - I dare say you probably won't need this - we use a network boot agent for various things EDIT - I just noticed (from checking my server) that TIME SERVER is missing! I always set that up too - not sure on the number though

Hi all, Just a heads up on this one... Over the Easter break one of our technicians updated the Symantec Enpoint client software on a server running DHCP. Today we came in with clients unable to connect left right and centre! After much fiddling and troubleshooting we tracked the issue down to Endpoint. Disabling the client and restarting DHCP enabled clients to get an address again! I thought I'd post this incase anyone has similar issues. It might save you 3hours investigating other things if you try this first!
