I'm still using Axis Camera Recorder (the old defunct software) in the office, but testing this new software at the same time. The main benefit is the fact it records straight to mjpeg video - so no lengthly video saving, and file sizes are good too. Thanks for the "thanks" guys

What are your hosting requirements? £200 sounds a lot! Can you not host internally?

Getting work from a student home directory account shouldn't be something a non-administrator should do - privacy laws etc? Password changes are easiest of all to delegate. Create a custom MMC and put adminpack.msi on stations required to do it.

Hi All, I've been meaning to write this for quite some time (not least as I came across this software a few months back, forgot about it, couldn't remember the name when needed it again and couldn't find anything half way near as good until I remembered it again - don't you just hate it when that happens!) Anyway, back to the point! For those of us that operate CCTV as well as Networks(!), you may have done exactly the same as me and spent hours and hours looking for half decent CCTV recording software. I searched and searched, and eventually stuck with the Axis software which they were selling at the time. I fixed the gif image issue by just admitting defeat and filling the entire canvas with a graphic. Odd, but works fine. Next problem is that IE8 needs to be in compatability mode for the navigation / where are you bit aligns properly at the top of the page. (Without Comp View on you have "MoodleHome > Course > Forum" in the middle/right of the heading instead of left aligned. Also does some similar stuff in other modules) Anyone know of a fix?

Why do those teaching and leadership colleagues have administrative access?! That's madness! You should find out what it is they want to do under their existing prvillages exactly and start working on a delegated permission allowing them do do it under a non-administrative account. You have a whole list of reasons to want to do this - reduce risk of accidental damage, accidenal data loss, increase security, prevent viruses etc etc.

I use Eclipse2 too. It's "ok". Does the job well enough. I've used Junior Librarian at a primary too - basically Eclipse2 with a nice cartoony front end. Looking in to Eclipse.Net (essentially SharePoint) - looks ok, good deals on to try and convince us to upgrade too. While I've not been too blown away by the product, I have to say the makers (Micro Librarian Systems) have been excellent on the phone if I've ever needed them.

Technically they don't do they? It's proportionally reduced like non-teaching staff would have if they had it stretched over 12 months? Anyway, what am I doing sticking up for them - they have powerful unions for such things! Full time here - feel like I could do with the 6wks off though! A member of the Domain Admin group has full administrative privillages to make changes in the domain for which is is the admin for. A member of the Enterprise Admin group has full administrative privillages to make changes to the entire forest and any domains in it. (Hope that's right!)

What I meant was, the only reason for needing a password in a fireproof safe is if the ENTIRE technical support team was irradecated - litterally no one left available to the school who could access the server without that scrap of paper. In which case, as I said, in the case of small schools it would be a good idea to follow the procedure. In my situation, and other schools with two or more support people, the only way that a password on a scrap of paper would be appropriate is if the ENTIRE support team was to encounter some simultaneous catestrophic accident causing death to each of them - which unless the whole support team regulaly travel together, is highly unlikely. Even with both of those paragraphs put together, I would STILL not ever write down the top-level domain administrator account! I would only write down an account capable of performing delegated top-level administrative tasks and was audited, which would allow a competent administrator to rebuild the network and perform admin tasks in a disaster!

I'm suprised at some of the replies here. As far as I'm concerned there should be one main "domain administrator" account - ideally not called "administrator" by the way - such any easy thing to avoid and prevent 50% of a potential hackers job to be already done! Once you have that one overall adinistrative account, it should only ever be used by the SINGLE person with overall top-level administrative control of the network - and even then, not as their main day to day account. All other administrative users should have delegated access to required services (so if you have a technician needing to backups give them "backup operators" etc etc) This fireproof safe idea is something I don't operate, but am 50/50 on. The only time it would ever need to be utilised is if the entire network admin team were blown off the face of the earth - in which case the server room they are based next to would have gone with them! In some schools (especially smaller ones) I can see it being a good idea - as long as there was clear understanding it wasn't to be used without written authorisation from the actual administrator or the headteacher.

Does anyone know what the default size of the gif images should be for the entire image to be displayed correctly in the flash banner section? Leaving the 3x gif images currently in the slideshow folder causes no issues and allows them to be displayed correctly in the Moodle theme, but when I go in and insert a different image over the same canvas (working in Fireworks) the image displays in Moodle quite distorted. Also, if I move an image to the centre of the canvas it appears strangely on the Moodle theme - sometimes the start of the image appears at the right hand side of the banner and ends at the left hand side as if it's been wrapped around somehow! I'm sure that's not the most eloquent explanation I could have written, but I hope someone understands and can help!

I've used a whole host of ones (all of which have been covered by previous posts) The only one I've not seen that I've often had good pricing from in the past is PC World Business Licensing (I think just DSGi Licensing now?). They offered very good low pricing when I used them last.

Have to agree with Michael here DB. Sorry! The more restrictive measures are put in to place, the safer school enviroments will be for all concerned. I don't see any problem at all - other than the additional work those workers will need to do prior to accessing etc.

Is it the deleted users personal calendar, or a shared calendar for which only the deleted user had permission to change?

Compltely agree. If one of the email accounts was a school account you could investigate. If both are hotmail accounts and hotmail is filtered internally, then it simply isn't your problem. If parents want to pursue it further then they will have to log the incidents with the police.

I know I'm probably running the risk of being the first reply and also not answering the question you asked.... but I'm in a very similar position to you - and would be interested in what Motorola offer you that the other solutions don't? I've had a look / demo of most of the others you mentioned, but not Motorola.... is there something they do that makes them stand out above the others? Or are they just cheaper while offering most of the same kind of service?

I'd have to agree with Outtolunch - if you need help constructing an argument, then you probably don't actually need one (if you did, then you'd know why you did!) If the main reason you want one is it will be newer / higher spec than your desktop then just ask for a new desktop instead (cheaper and more productive etc?!)

It's a bit outside of my comfort zone, but I would hazzard a guess that this isn't possible. I can see it being possible in theory to make use of the export routines available via Capita Web Parts if you have a SharePoint system running which utilises shared calendars, but it would take a genuis coder to be able to make seamless links between individual pupil sims records and individual pupil exchange calendars (....if i've understood you correctly!)
