  1. You need to find out what the GUID for the user account is. Should be listed in AD in the Attribute Editor tab of the user account (will need to turn on Advanced Features in AD Users & Computers view menu). Then it's just a case of finding the matching GUID in the offending computers registery under HKEY_USERS and deleting the entire subtree.
  2. Yes, it will be autocreated next logon. But... you will lose anything stored in your profile (internet favourite, screen saver settings, background pic, desktop contents, etc). Is it a roaming or local profile? If it's roaming then you need to make sure it is deleted from both the PC and the server. Also on the PC you need to make sure the profile is deleted from the registry as well. There is a GUI friendly way of doing this but I can't recall as I've always done it the hard way (manually delete the profile then manually edit the registry).
  3. Was your user account previously in a staff OU intead of the admin OU? If so any settings applied to the account from the staff OU will not be automatically unapplied - they will remain inforce until either a) you delete your user profile and force a fresh passing of the GPO's, or b) apply new GPO's with opposite setting to those that where used in the staff OU (Enabled settings become explictly Disable, Diabled setting explicity Enabled). Wherever a GPO setting is set to "Not Applied" then the last setting (Enabled/Disabled) the account encounted will remain active.
  4. Here are a couple I'm particuarly pleased with... Queens View in Scotland 2003 This Picture, Pitlochary 2003, has some sentimental meaning. My nan always had a picture on her wall and I never new where it was taken (she lived in Essex). Anyway, we were buring her ashes in her home town of Pitlochary in Schotland. Walking down the high street and what do I see... that picture! I had to take my own version of it, unfortunately the red car moved at the wrong time From my 2008 trip to Egypt, this was the view of the pyramids from the roof of our hotel in Cairo. And, the Sphinxes (as the local children called it when they kept asking me if I wanted to see it). And across the Nile to our hotel in Aswan.
  5. We have literatly just started a 3yr contract with Konica Minolta. 3x A3 MFD's, 6x A4 MFD's and 20x A4 Printers. Early days but fag paper calculations and tender specs going into this suggest we should at worst break even with our previous self-managed print solution but have greater flexibility, better reporting and monitoring, and KM have to service all the printer faults. Hardware is more expensive, monitory software is alot more expensive, print cost per page is soo much cheaper it atleast eleminates the extra hardware/software costs encured!
  6. Been mentioned atleast twice. (once by me in caps with loads of explanation marks). Ended before it's time (but that could be a good thing in a Faulty Towers kind of way).
  7. It's interesting that most high schools teach German and French not Mandarin and Spanish. Union job protection vs Educational needs?
  8. Just found this, the 2052 post-devolution map of (what was) Great Britain...
  9. Ahh, that's a different discussion and I'm with you on the whole cost/benefit thing. Mac Mini's will do fine. Even the lowest priced iMac is bloody expensive these days. Mac Mini, buy your own RAM upgrades if required, cheap non brand 22" TFT, generic USB keyboards and mice. Job done.
  10. Despite comments in your other thread... We currently use PC's with Sibelius and CuBase. Head of Music has expressed an interest in Mac's though. We are also getting a new Head of Media Studies in September who will be very film orientated (apparantly). So I can see discussions around a share suite of Macs.
  11. As my dear old business manager would not doubt point out - you're ignore the opportune costs. How much is each teacher being paid per hour? How meny teachers do you need to train to use the PC software? How many hours training is required? (cost per hour x number of teachers x total hours). Plus the cost of the actual training provider, cover staff while the music dept are out on training. Vs. A one of cost for a suite of Mac Mini's. To my mind it's about using the right tool for the job. If Garageband and Logic Pro are the right tools then...
  12. Are they head of department? If so, they write the scheme of work and have to teach the subject. I'd bend over backwards to get the money people to agree to buy them Macs. Garageband predominantly. Possibly Logic Pro as well. Teachers have to teach the subject, they need tools they know how to use. Asking them to relearn new software on PC is a false economy. Art, Media and Music departments tend to prefer Mac's for traditional reasons. I'd be happy to roll with it if it's the HoD making the request. Besides it gives the pupils exposure to an alternative paltform instead of Windows all the time. If only I could find a department who'd work well will OpenSuSE...
  13. Two snaps taken while I was in Egypt a few year back. These were taken in central Cairo... Local driving style - Race to the nearest available gap. Lean on horn. Race to next available gap. Lean on horn. Race to next available gap...
  14. It's marketing, and appealing to the widest demographic. One customer might be put off by paying extra, be it only £16, for 64gb when they don't even need 16gb. Another might be put off by no 64gb model being available. Multiple memory options make sense, the problem comes with pricing them too closely as you then end up pricing lower models out of the market. My phone performs two essential functions, for me - MP3 player and sat nav. Sat nav isn't so bad on memory - but we are talking locally stored maps, not Google "cloud based" Maps. For music, I wan't al my music available all the time. I use MP3 for widest compatibility. Prefer 320kbps encoding, etc. I have over 5000 songs, and growing. My 64Gb iPhone has 12Gb left available! I'm seriously considering a 128Gb SDHC witht he next phone (future proofing). Playing devils advocate - from a manufacturers point of view. There's a market for these different storage options. But reflecting the true cost differential will destroy that market. Only having the highest option, at the best price, might be off putting to customers who don't need that much storage. I'm not saying I agree with the markups being given. It's just hard to see how companies are supposed to differentiate between two/three/four otherwise identical products? Personally I'd favour the lowest memory config approach, supply an SDHC slot, and use processor and screen size as the model differentiators. But then I'm not in business and don't have to answer to shareholders...
  15. I'm actually surprised Which? consider this a "news" story! really? Next they'll be telling us the sky is blue! Playing devils advocate - When storage capcity is the only real differentiator (sp?) between models what are manufacturers supposed to do? Make one model with the highest possible memory capacity and leave it at that? Have a £16 price gap between two models in a range (who'd buy the cheaper model, what would be the point)? Sell the lower memory model at a loss? Provide SDHC card slots for cheaper end user expansion (I'm looking at you Apple)?
  16. Wow, were to start? I've got a Netflix subscription so that helps out with things like House of Cards. 24 is on there if I ever get the urge again, as is Lost and a few others. Same with Sky Now. On my Plex server we have Star Trek Original series and movies, Booth At The End (extremely good - must watch!), Game Of Thrones, The Following, The Amazing Race (some 18 series - love it!), American Horror Story, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Doctor Who (orginal and reboot ), The A-Team, FIREFLY!!!! and The Walking Dead. On DVD - Highlander (inc. The Raven), Babylon 5 (EVERYTHING!), Rome, Michael Palins travel documentries, Quantum Leap (1-2, 3-5 on Plex), The ORIGINAL Battlestar Galactica, Alien Nation, Shogun. Used to have a copy of 'V' (orginal). Might have to get hold of that again one day, Although I've seen the remake and it too was surprisingly good.
  17. Been dealing with these guys for years: Office Supplies in Norwich | Unbeatable Prices | Ultimate Office Direct, they're local Norfolk based so depending were you are they may or may not be able to help. Certainly have taken away all our old remanufactured toner carts (and supplied them in the first place).
  18. How and where exactly are you deplying printers? As Group Policy Preferences or through Print Mangement and Deploy with GPO? Are the printers being deployed to the machine or the user? It sounds like the later, by user. If so is there any particular reason for deploying this way? The user always has the same printer(s) available no matter where they login? We use Print Management and Deploy with GPO and deploy the printers to the machine - so anyone using that machine gets the nearest printer. In this scenario the drivers are installed once when the GPO is first applied, long before any user log's in. No drivers are copied on user login at all.
  19. Lack of documentation was the original problem and thus why I agreed to giving them £400. Now I have loads of documentation - they provided it monthly. All communication through e-mail direct to executive complaints, so not messing around. I have thought about Small Claims but will try OfGEM first. Baby steps. They have till 11th May...
  20. Will do. They've been given till the 11th May to respond to my lastest complaint and to refund £400 I had agreed to pay on the basis that they leave me alone. They didn't so I want my money back. Don't expect to hear anything further from them apart from another auto-generated statement "to the owner/occupier". At which point it's off to OfGEM!
  21. Try having that argument with nPower, who after 13years still haven't turned off my gas supply and insist on trying to charge me the standing charges - idiots!
  22. Here's a small list of issues I ran into recently when setting up our new exchange server - maybe one of them will help... - MX record must point to a valid FQDN for your mail server (eg. myexchangeserver.myschool.mycounty.sch.uk) - A valid A record must exist in DNS to resolve the FQDN of your server to a public IP - Both MX and A record must be on a externally accessable DNS server - Your Nominet record for your domain must point to the DNS server(s) hosting the A and MX records - You must have a valid reverse lookup entry in DNS for the mail server - In Mail Flow, Recieve Connectors. Under scoping for the default frontend. It must respond to all IP's on port 25 and respond with the external FQDN (as above) for the server in it's HELO/EHLO response. - Under security it needs to respond to anonymous users. That should be it. The only other thing is it can take DNS changes a couple of days to properly propergate so mail flow might be effected until this has completed.
  23. Ahh, static CRT's how I miss them! We used to hold one hand on the screens to collect up the static and then, with a pointed finger on the other hand, jolt unsuspecting passers by. Cant do that with a LCD
  24. Fantastic! Can't believe I actually used to listen to music that way! Even CD Walkman's and Minidisc's (some 10-15years newer than the cassette walkman) seem antiquated and troublesome now.
  25. Can't avoid any longer - enjoy
