How and what software to use Imaging Computers.
tmcd35 replied to abillybob's topic in O/S Deployment
You need a Windows 7/8 install CD. You get the initial .wim files from there. They are then used to create the WinPE .wim files that you boot into using PXE. -

To be honest, I always found MDT as a whole more hassle than it was worth! I stuck with vanilla WDS until we migrated to SCCM. I think SCCM is based on MDT, but it creates all the automation scripts for you. -

How big is the school, what scale deployments are we talking about? Clonezilla is free and ultra-easy to use for small scale deployments. Store images on a network share, boot from penstick, CD or (with a little work) PXE. WDS is really easy to set up, free with Windows Server and all round the best option - but watch server and network load when using it. Possibly not a great idea on a DC, might want to avoid too much imaging if other users are around. MDT adds a little complication to WDS but does mean everything is automated. I think you can get MDT to the point were just turning a PC on is enough for an image to be deployed! Cream of the crop is System Center Config Manager. Costs a little more (actually free as part of an EES subscription). Takes some setting up (seriously!). But is worth all the hastles as AV, software deployments, machine images, etc all suddenly become a breeze to manage and deploy. -
PS+ version will be a little cut back - think Gran Turismo Prolgue. A few less cars and a few less tracks. Also, rumoured to have a special PS+ upgrade to full version price which might be interesting if the PS+ version prooves spectacular. I doubt either PS+ or upgrade would get any pre-order bonus stuff.

I thought DriveClub was a traditional racer in that respect. The Crew on the other hand looks a little bit more interesting. I'll probably get the free version of DriveClub with PS+ this year, and grab a copy of the The Crew next year when prices have dropped, or a PS+ discount is offered. The Crew looks like it'll include a more free roam experience. Hopefully something closer to Burnout Paradise (best driving game ever!).

Still missing the ability to organise my games! With PS+, crossbuy, Free2Play, and a couple of purchases I know have 15 games already with anoher 2 this month. Scrolling to find games is a complete mere espeacilly when auto updates reorders them!

Okay, sticking with Genesis, I assume I can expand out to related acts? Best/Favourites... Genesis - No Son of Mine Phil - Another Day In Paradise Peter - Solsbury Hill Mike - Someone Always Hates Someone Tony - Still Takes Me By Surprise Honory Mention to Siltskin (Ray Wilson) - Inside.

If we're talking "Desert Island Disographies" then my list would be headed up by R.E.M. and then the Crowded House/Split Enz family. Third? If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to choose - probably Queen (and various off-shoots). But I'd be so disappointed in all the great music I'll be leaving behind I actually sat down and created a playlist - 10 songs each from 10 artists that I thought best summed up my core musical tastes. Here's the artists... The Beatles David Bowie Split Enz The Police Nirvana Toad The Wet Sprocket Richard Ashcroft Stereophonics Liam Finn Imagine Dragons I look at the list and can't help thinking of all the great bands that are missing from it! Rolling Stones, Roxette, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, The Kinks, T Rex, ..., ... The whole concept of Desert Island Discs is a form of torture. How do you choose just 8 songs?
-
Fantastic - welcome to the iPod age! Instead of 8 Desert Island Discs we have entire discographies. I assume the MP3 player wasn't the "luxary item". And for book - Kindle?

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not excusing the boys actions. He certainly should be punished as the law and society deem proportional to his crime, and if possible rehabilitated back into society. We don't have the full facts. We don't know why he did what he did. We only have speculation. @Earthling asked why he should be allowed to lead a normal life? I ask - is there some extenuating circumstances we don't know about and can he be rehabilitated? If so, then why shouldn't he be allowed a normal life?
-
My apologies. Perhaps "implies" might have been a better choice of words than "assumes". My point stands though, as horrendous as the idea might be, the pupil could just as easily be a victim a wider tragic story. We don't know all the facts. Maybe with rehabilitation the individual does deserve the chance at a "normal life"?
-
While I agree and deeply sympathise with the teacher family, your question assumes the pupil lead anything remotely like a 'Normal Life' leading up to the incident. As I said above we may never know all the facts and can only speculate. I think there's likely to be some major child protection and social services issues surrounding this case.

This page lists the various licencing options open to schools: Education software licensing | Adobe Volume Licensing

We can only speculate and may never know. Because of the childs age a lot of this case will be unreportable for legal reasons. BBC mentioned this morning that she was a Head of Year. If that's the case, then it may not be too difficulate to speculate how such a tragidy might occur. We are a small rural school, and yet we too get our fair share of troubled teens, often with highly disruptive home lifes, that pastoral staff are expected to deal with on a daily basis.

I walked out on a Peter Gabriel gig once (shock-horror!). It was Hyde Park Calling in 2007 (can't belive it was that long ago!). Great Saturday lineup. Ghosts followed by a new up and coming band called The Feeling doing tracks from their debut Twelve Stops And Home. Then a newly reformed Crowded House (who I'd gone there particuarly to see). Then Peter Gabriel. Nice sunny day. Neil Finn (Crowded House) joking about the weather in Glastonbury (held on the same weekend). And then he sung Four Seasons in One Day and the heavens opened. Never been so wet in all my life. By the end of Crowded House's shorter than expected set it was bright sunshine again. When Peter came on we were shivering but looking forward to some old classics. He kicked of with his new world stuff. After three or four unfamiliar tracks we got bored and headed home. No doubt he rocked the stage later in the set with all the songs we wanted to hear, but we were far too cold and wet and bored to wait around for them!

Lol - I thought I inadvertently introduced some confusion.

You don't need to be EES to use the Adobe agreement, they also do standard purpetial licencing. Eitherway your normal MS supplier are going to be the best people to talk to.
-
How many copies do you need? Probably the best people are whoever you buy your Microsoft licencing from. Adobe do a similar agreement to EES now so you can subscribe rather than purchase outright.

It's certainly an interesting case. I find I have more questions than answers... Are we talking data on american citizens being held in the Irish data center or non-american citizens? Is the data center and servers wholey owned by MS or outsourced? (I assume owned). Microsoft are an american company operating in the US under US law, if the court order was against a non-american company operating outside the US would I be more concerned? I can't help likening this data scenerio to holding an off-shore bank account to avoid paying tax. I think the judges order makes perfect legal sense. The bigger question is what happens when MS doesn't comply. Because, yes, they can't just turn up outside the data centers front gates and demand access without co-operation from Irish authorities.

Drat! Didn't even know it existed! Got a concert in Cambridge on Sunday so traveling up to Blackpool is out. I'll keep an eye out for this next year...

For Genesis, and the various off-shoots, I'm a more "pick 'n' mix" listener. Don't think I like/own any one complete album. We Can't Dance might be the closest (and my favourite of the PC era). Love this track!
-
Personally always felt that Mike & The Mechanics and Peter Gaberials solo stuff was better, but I do prefer post Gaberial Genesis to the Gaberial era (yes "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" rocks, as does "I Know What I Like In Your Waldrobe" (I think that's the title)). Personally I say Genesis's best output was with Ray Wilson (Stilitskin - Inside). Love the title track for the Congo album. Edit: My bad! Album was called "Calling All Stations". Congo was the lead single - still a great track.

SuSE has been my "goto" distro for years. Just decided to return to the Linux fold recently and put 12.3 on my laptop. Loved it! Unfortunately I couldn't get it to run Banshee satisfactualy so it was replaced by a 32bit Ubuntu. Must say I like the new Ubuntu, but I'd prefer KDE 4 over Unity. More important though, Ubuntu runs Banshee just fine and my MP3 collection is saved

I beg to differ. The one thing I don't use my phone for is - phone calls! I don't want to carry around 3-4 different devices just incase I might need one of them. My phone is my MP3 player, my Sat Nav, my digital camera, E-mail and web on the move. It's a single device, fits in my pocket and is always with me - just incase I need one of the functions. Better than finding you need your camera but have left it at home!

Got an iPhone 4S (too old?) that I'd happily smash up. Unfortunatly the prize is a 16Gb phone and no SDHC slot. Drat!
