No, but I use SOPHOS. I restored the checkpoint, uninstalled SOPHOS and rebooted - no prob. gpupdated, rebooted again and black screen. Restore the checkpoint again, disconnect the virtual NIC, you can reboot till you're bored. Plug the NIC in, reboot OK, then picks up the domain policies etc. (or gpupdate), reboot, black screen. None of the policies have changed since before that particular backup either.

So I've restored two machines from a VHD backup which is about 2 months old. Everything working fine, restart a few times, no problem. Run a gpupdate /force on them, reboot - there's the problem. I can't find anything in the GPOs or in RSOP to even relate to the issue.

Even using the remote registry and adding: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\winlogon AutoAdminLogon = 1 DefaultUsername = administrator DefaultPassword = password doesn't work. I've attached some screenshots. I added the RM LogonUI Banner to see whether anything would show up: 1 minute it does: 1 minute is doesn't: Safe Mode just flickers there forever:

Good Morning. I hope everybody's having a good summer. Here's an interesting one... I have 3 servers, all displaying a strange problem... When you boot the server in Hyper-V, you get the plash screen with the spinning icon, then the screen turns black. When you click in the window, the pointer turns to a little dot. Sending Ctrl+Alt+Del from the menu doesn't do anything - just a blank screen. When I try to RDP, I get a black screen which disappears after about 2 seconds ("mstsc" and "mstsc /admin"). If I interrupt the boot a couple of times I get into the recovery system. Choosing to boot the server in Safe Mode, I get nothing, other then "Safe Mode" quite happily blinking away in the corners - nothing else. I can browse the FS via UNCs, I can manage via Server Manager and RSAT, plus I can PS Remote. It's doing my head in. Cheers for your help, Paul.

Already tried that Ian, As I say, everything resolves via DNS, both NETBIOS name, FQDN and IP all resolve each other properly. -

So then I try to enter-psession on the existing server to itself and it gives the same: "..server name cannot be resolved" So it can't resolve it's own name through server manager or PS - but can via NSLOOKUP. Cleared the DNS cache etc. I tried to add a role to itself and it gave an error suggesting it can't modify the registry settings because "the serv....." Grrrr. -
Morning, I currently have a 2012R2 DC servicing a small network of about 50 PCs. I'm trying to add a second, so installed Windows Server on the second machine - set it's IP and DNS entries etc. When trying to access it in server manager - I receive an error, "Target Name Resolution Error". When I try to connect via PS, "...the server name cannot be resolved". On both servers, running an NSLOOKUP on both the IP and PC Name show the correct info: nslookup servername Server: FQDN Address: w.x.y.x nslookup w.x.y.z Server: FQDN Address: w.x.y.z It's got me stumped. I've restarted both servers, flushed the DNS caches, I can PING bother servers from each other etc., no firewall, WINRM is running and enabled, -no avail. Any help would be great. Cheers, Paul.

Cheers, I think signing in directly would cause outrage as people "have enough bloomin' passwords to remember" lol. Well, they can either have it on their PC and not have the data roaming, or with it roaming - making sure they close it on 1 PC.

Hi, I know this is an old thread. I have managed to set-up Chrome, setting the user-data to "N:\Google" etc. This works a charm - however if you stay logged in to PC 1 with Chrome open, it crashes on start-up if you use it simultaneously PC 2. Close it on PC 1, opens fine on PC 2. Any thoughts? We could just tell staff to close it before using different PCs, but that may be a faff? Cheers, Paul.

Does Smoothwall support NATting though? I've got several websites published / RDS / and some cross-network traffic (I.e one of my networks using DNS from a server on another?) Paul. -
Hi Matthew, The SPF record will still allow the email to be sent, however it is designed to inform the recipients mail provider to mark it as junk/spam/phishing etc. I'm not sure why it is displaying "FAIL", try sending it to another recipient, who has a different email provider (I.e. Somebody who has a gmail account) and see what happens. Paul. Paul.

Hi Everybody. Currently at my school, I have about 1,000 devices on the system, which are a mixture of just about everything that can access the internet. Currently, I'm running TMG 2010 - which obviously is now EOL. I'm looking at SOPHOS UTM as a replacement. Currently our web filtering is, and will still be, provided by our Smoothie. I am looking at the SG 210, which is the first 1U model. I need a box with at least 5NICS - so don't know whether this is plain overkill (as it's not inspecting all web traffic), so if that's the case would I even get away with the SG 125? We have a 200Mb/s internet connection I have 3 main internal networks Main - ~600 computers Second network - ~400 iPads DMZ for web server hosting Cheers for your advice. Paul.

I've noticed when looking at the bottom of the KB article, even though the update may be called "August Update for...."' The page itself is 'revised' the day the WSUS syncs. So for example: Obviously if it's still a live update, PCs built tomorrow may still need it as the Windows image may have been created sooner and not have it. I always thought it was odd that I was being notified of the August update being downloaded today, not August. Then after a bit of digging it looks as if it was originally downloaded in August AND today. I'm assuming it is a 'newer version'of an 'older' live non-redundant update.

Basically how you say. We used ports in the 7,000 range, but did sequentially. Our password policy requires at least 8 characters and a number too.

I seem to have exactly the same. Of course lots of staff have lost their remotes....! Then it's a case of physically unplug it and plug it in again.

Currently using a Juniper system with no Bonjour gateways / filtering etc. basically can't afford £40k for a decent Meraki system. Management know it won't work unless, but want it to work anyway.

And they'll remain to be so. I bet no sooner 8.4 will be out as they started beta testing it already. They're also supposed to be working on iOS 9.... http://www.macrumors.com/2015/02/09/apple-working-on-ios-8-4-new-music-service/ Luckily most of our 300 iPads are given to the students - so they can update them themselves, but it's still great when somebody can't do something, bring it in and it's still got iOS 7 on!

Its a shame that. Still, I have a Pi B at the moment and its collecting dust (all the accessories and everything else)! I've heard so much good stuff about the new one I think I'll be on element14 soon buying 1.

I tried in a classroom with the TP. It does work well and looks fab for lessons etc. The only problem is your profile can become seriously corrupted if you log onto a Win 10 PC then a Win 7 PC (not so bad with 8). That's why Microsoft invented the: profilename (XP) profilename.v2 (Vista and 7) profilename.v3 (8) profilename.v4 (8.1) And guess what, everybody will need a: profilename.v5 folder. I found when people logged on to Win10 the first time, the user profile service failed to load the profile and gave them a temp one. That's because they don't have a .v5 extension and don't have the permissions in the profile folder to automatically create a new one. Manually create a .v5 or give their account permission to auto-create one. If you use a mandatory profile, just copy your Win8.1 one and rename it as .v5 and it will work. Paul.

I have SIMS setup on a few Win10 and Office 2013 PCs and there aren't any issues. Are you having problems?

I'm not sure whether this is a Windows 10 post, or a Raspberry Pi post - but I think the Windows 10 is a bit more relevant. What's your thought on Microsoft releasing a free version of Windows 10 for the Pi? I've heard some crazy things - but I think this will be awesome to see it in action: https://dev.windows.com/en-us/featured/raspberrypi2support I'm keen to see the Pi2 when I can get my hands on one.
