Before we brought in RDS - I came up with a daft idea. I have a TMG server setup Set up a NAT for different external port numbers. They were then transated to 3386 pointing to a particular PC. For example, the user entered into the Remote Desktop Connection our external IP followed by the published port number: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1001 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1002 etc. A bit messy but it worked.

Hi, I hope everybody is having a good Easter. Here's a quick one as I'm probably being thick. I am running WSUS which appears to be doing everything it says on the tin. When updates are synced, I receive an email with a list. A large chunk of updates which have been downloaded are months old. I've been running it for about 2 years so it doesn't need to catch up with anything. There are links to security updates published back in 2014. The malicious software removal tool is often 6 months out of date. Is this just me being thick? Cheers, Paul.

Here's another interesting one. If I map the printer within the session, I can print. The error only occurs when printing to a "redirected" printer. Cheers. Paul.

Hi, Are you using the existing server to install Windows, or do you have another physical/virtual box you're setting up alongside? Are you upgrading your host servers too, or just your license server, as you'll need 2012 CALS otherwise? If you can have both servers running at once, you can use the the following to migrate them automatically: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd851591.aspx Hopefully this will help. Paul.
-
You can try mapping the port using a different number. Create a temporary listener on, say 8443 - then under bridging, "Redirect requests to SSL port:", then choose 443? On the TMG rule, are you using "Link Translation"? If so, try disabling it. Paul.
-
One thing you can try. On your TMG - temporarily create a rule for forward all HTTPS traffic to your RDS server Firewall Config, "New Access Rule" and publish straight HTTPS which will eliminate the need for an SSL certificate at your TMG. Make sure you turn any HTTPS listeners off first.

Is the farm's FQDN different externally? I.e. Is the internal domain something like: remote.domain.loc' And external remote.myexternaldomainname.co.uk? If so, you'll probably need a SAN certificate with both subjects. Try, in server manager, going to the properties of your collection and disabling the requirement for NLA, and allowing low security. You may be given a windows login screen as opposed to a dialogue when you try click an icon in RDWeb.
-
I did notice too, you need to make sure port 443, HTTPS, is pointed towards your RDWeb server with the correct certificate for your farm. I've found issues can occur with SSL traffic if the certificate subject mis-matches. The RDWeb takes your credentials, and the connection broker uses SSL outside and RDP inside.

Hi, Just a quick bit of advice for people using the latest TP build (9926) (Friday January 23) receiving the following Windows Update error 0x80070057 using WSUS. Create a new .reg file and add the following (note the strange space at the end of the "WindowsUpdate" keys which you will need to remove when you create the .reg file): I came across this error this morning and the resolution was on the following TechNet forum: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dc05266d-d80b-4817-988e-08005e3bb552/windows-update-0x80070057 Paul.

This Theme Can't be applied - RDS Farm on Server 2012R2
RowlandoGloom replied to StephenHardy's topic in Windows Server 2012
Hi Stephen, After having this issue bugging me for a long time, I came across the following site: Kim Hellman - Being right is better than being great: "This theme can't be applied to the desktop" Even though 2012R2 doesn't really use Aero - specifying the path "%windir%\Resources\Themes\aero.theme". This seems to be working for now.. Paul. -
Should I add the values you have mentioned as non of the three are present? Cheers, Paul.

Exactly as I thought, reassuring that it is not just me. Wasn't an issue in 6.4.9841 Didn't try 6.4.9860 Now running 6.4.9879 Looking forward to 10.0.9888 next year, so I assume it'll be fixed!

Interesting, Windows 10, no numlock, caps lock or scroll lock lights? The keys still work, just you can't see the lights. Thought it was my PC, as nothing ever seems to work after I've always been faffing on with it, but it doesn't work on somebody else's either. Re-installed Windows - same thing :-S

Hi, When printing from Publisher 2013 in an RDS session (both full and via RemoteApp), the user receives the following error: "The file %s cannot be opened. Access privileges have not been given." In the Event Viewer, "Application and Service Logs"\"Microsoft Office Alerts" - it displays the error description with the code: 0x80070005. Searching Google, forums suggested it was an activation issue for some reason. Removing the keys and re-installing (both a MAK and VLK) - Office activates OK but Publisher still doesn't print. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks, Paul.

Exchange 365 PowerShell Dynamic Distribution Group
RowlandoGloom replied to RowlandoGloom's topic in Cloud Services
Now noticing, if on the mailboxes page in IE - searches won't work with wildcards: If in the search box I try "emailaddresses:[email protected]" - the E-Mail address is listed. If I run "emailaddresses:j*[email protected]" or "emailaddresses:j*" - nothing is returned. Paul.- 9 replies

Exchange 365 PowerShell Dynamic Distribution Group
RowlandoGloom replied to RowlandoGloom's topic in Cloud Services
New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Name "___year7students" -RecipientFilter { EmailAddresses -like 'a*14@' } Creates the group, nothing in it. The only reason for the underscores is so it appears at the top of the list and makes it easier to find in the GUI for now. Paul.- 9 replies

Exchange 365 PowerShell Dynamic Distribution Group

Sorry for the long delay getting back. I haven't been in work for some time. I have installed DiRSYNC onto a server - however the install fails, then won't let you remove it, plus says it is already installed once you try again. As I say, RM Unify takes the users based on their primary group ("RM Students", "RM Non-Teaching Staff", RM Teaching Staff", "RM Administrator"). It totally doesn't take into account which OU they are in. I'm still struggling to find a query that will check for the number on the end. I just wish you could have a wildcard at the beginning of the string (*14). I'm going to try "a*14", "b*14" so will see how I get on. Paul.- 9 replies

Discovery kit works OK. One member of staff had the iPod upside down, so viewing her observation (sorry, "Reflection" as iris call it now) wasn't easy. Paul.
