You only need to prove anything if the domain type is restricted. Eg. .sch.uk or .ac.uk. For a company, I would go with .co.uk, or for a non-profit, I'd go with .org.uk. There's no special requirements for either.

Yes to all, because that's how HTTPS works. Unless you have the CA that is being used to sign the block page installed as trusted on the client, you will receive a browser error as it doesn't trust that page. Unless, of course, your block page is on domain which has a commercial SSL certificate signing it.

Not got that line speed - have a 1Gbps line instead, and I get 65Mbps down and 103Mbps on my Chromebook on my desk (to the internet), which apparently has a "medium" connection to the AP (ZF710). Don't have Speedflex app on the chromebook though, so can't test that bit.

Oh, yeah, if you block HTTPS sites without inspection, you'll just get a generic page cannot be loaded error, rather than a block page.

If you simply want to be able to block, say, google.com, most filtering solutions will do that without SSL inspection. But, if you want to see what someone is searching for on Google? You need a certificate on every device. The domain part of a request is not itself encrypted by SSL, but the content (the full URL, the page content etc...) is. I've not come across any filtering solution that can't block pages based purely on domain though!

No, it works fine with .Net 4.8. We have .Net 4.8 installed on all machines and SIMS works fine.

Looked After Call seems to be the most commonly used tool by Virtual Schools these days. We have their stuff on all our SIMS servers. Another one of the install and forget lot really.

Not sure where you got the 2025 date from? The support lifecycle page says each September feature update will be supported for 30 months from release date, and each March feature update for 18 months from release date. There's also a table of individual versions - 1909 end of service for Education is 2022. If they are sending confidential data to a personal address, they could be falling foul of GDPR - they can't control the connection between your email provider and theirs, so the emails potentially could be intercepted. It also means that they can't delete that data if they need to, or audit it for subject access requests etc...

Why would you do that? The policy of delete and create new would still apply wouldn't it? I mean, we have people leave and new people with the same name join here sometimes, they end up with a different address.

No generic accounts here at all - every person gets one individually. If we want aliases on top of that so, "chair@" goes to a specific individual, that's fine. Or a distribution list address "governors@" which goes to all of them, that's fine too. But a single shared address among multiple people? Not gonna happen. Also, just to point out that governors are NOT executive staff. They do not get to make operational decisions like this, nor does the clerk to them. Operational decisions come from operational staff - CEO, COO, Headteacher, etc...

Depends what you mean by student teacher. Short term (basically with us for a half term) - they don't get anything Longer term (here for a term or more) - they get treated like normal staff. They sign the AUP etc... They get all accounts set up, as they're expected to basically behave like a teacher.

Thought about it a few years ago. Decided after looking at what it'd need across our network that it simply isn't something that's gonna affect us for a while. The internet isn't going to go IPv6 only any time soon, and even if it does, there's tunnelling that can be done. However, realistically, we could change our network *relatively* easy these days. I'm fairly sure everything except our Trend boiler controllers, and our older Net2 controllers (most of these have died and been replaced now though). It'd just take some diagraming, planning and setting up. Nothing overly complex.
