iOS Mail app being blocked by LGfL
localzuk replied to interslice's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I don't know LGFL, but they might be blocking POP/IMAP/SMTP - used to be common among education IT suppliers. -
Bumping in case people didn't see this last night, because they were sleeping or something...

Our new server is now live! No modpack this time round. But this one is a little different. This is a Spigot server, with a few plugins (list below). The main plugins are: So, the goal is this - people will team up, and form their towns. There is an economy (some base items are set up at the admin shop at spawn, to get people's income going). The plugins installed are: BattleTracker - keeps a leaderboard of battles, PVP and PVE BetterSleeping - 30% sleep requirement BuildPortals - Make portals anywhere in the world, to anywhere you want to go Dynmap - http://mc.edugeek.net:8123 Magma - You need silk touch to break magma blocks mcMMO - A levelling system MoreBosses - Kinda self explanatory Trails - commonly walked routes will turn to paths over time The New Economy - Money Jobs - Jobs! ShopChest - Chest based shops So, if you want to join in, make sure you have whitelisted yourself (put your minecraft username in your profile here on the site - can take 6 hours to take effect), install Minecraft 1.14.4 (Java Edition) and connect to the server at mc.edugeek.net. Rules: No griefing No camping No stealing If you are out in the wilderness, you are OK to attack. If you are in your town, you are NOT OK to be attacked. If the economy looks like it is becoming unbalanced, I will adjust the admin shop prices accordingly. For any questions, come ask in the Edugeek Discord Minecraft channel. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/186223-edugeek-discord-live-chat-server.html If you have any suggestions for plugins, let me know and I'll have a look at them!

What does your IT subject lead use it for?

We went with 4g assure, as the nursery needed a new line - so 4g allowed us to get them up and running the moment the router arrived. It works is all I can say - our main problem is that they use EE infrastructure (of course), and this nursery is in a poor coverage spot. It is completely automatic. One thing to note though, you cannot set the BT router to "bridge" mode if you want to use it, so you are stuck using their router to handle stuff. It does flick over straight away, yeah.
-
4g is actually our "getting SIMS data immediately" step - getting SIMS spun up and accessible can be done anywhere, and 4G can be used to access the data. One of our nurseries is connected back via FTTC (a nursery with 2 PCs doesn't really need EAD we reckon), and a Sophos RED device. The BT router it uses has "4G Assure" for failover too. Insurance should be part of the DR plan, they should have estimates of when they get services back online, electric, heating, porta cabins, new servers etc - broadband normally never gets an estimate unfortunately Indeed. There are estimates of recovery times in there. With different services clustered depending on importance. Eg. Getting a DC/DHCP/DNS server up and running, and SIMS servers is top of the list, other data next down the list, everything else "as and when possible".
-
Just to point something out - P2P lines are not based on distance between sites. They are based on distance each site is from their local exchange. So, if site A is 1 mile from the exchange, and site B is 2 miles, then you're paying a fee based on those 3 miles. The sites could be 200 miles from each other.

Same as with any business - we have a disaster recovery plan in place. We can spin the whole lot up in the cloud if we need to, so all we're reliant on is getting connectivity up. An insurance company does not dictate the emergency needs of a school. Remember, disaster recovery goes through multiple stages. First stage is just getting the critical systems up and accessible. Longer term, you're looking to return to normal. I wouldn't expect our recovery to be instant, but we would be able to get all schools operating again within 48 hours. You should not be designing your entire operational infrastructure based on an insurance company dragging its feet. You build it based on operational needs, available funds, sustainability etc... You then build a DR plan that provides for recovery, and is something management is happy with (in terms of timescales). Anyhow, our 2 year goal is elimination of the central servers anyway - as most of our IT use is now in "the cloud". So, DR at that point will be "get internet".
-
It is a hidden field, accessible via reporting only (or via API) - you need third party reporting permissions on the account using the reports.

We centralised as much as possible here. Our network finished its merge earlier this year - all our schools are on a single domain. We have a WAN made up of EAD point to point leased lines (less than £3k a year for each for us) - so all schools connect back to our central site by them, then have internet breakout at that central site. We have a central cluster of servers, and none of the schools have servers any more. Staffing-wise, our setup is supposed to be IT Manager (me), Senior IT Tech (vacant) and Technician (just filled). Our schools are geographically grouped - 3 in one town, 3 in another small area. So, I am based in the town, and the senior tech should be based at the largest of the other 3 schools. School-wise, we are 6 schools - 2 middle schools, 4 first schools (and 4 nurseries).

Same as my term time playlist - Radio 2 on the radio in the shared office.
-
No-one except me appears to have logged in for a number of weeks, so this server is now offline. I'll be spinning something new up soon.
-
I'm turning this one off for a while - no-one has logged in for months, and I don't have the time to update the pack at the moment. It will probably be brought back to life in the future though!

Google releases web app version of Chrome Remote Desktop
localzuk replied to Arthur's topic in Cloud Services
The only way I could get this working was to unblock all UDP traffic to Google's IP ranges: 64.233.160.0 – 64.233.191.255 66.102.0.0 – 66.102.15.255 66.249.64.0 – 66.249.95.255 72.14.192.0 – 72.14.255.255 74.125.0.0 – 74.125.255.255 209.85.128.0 – 209.85.255.255 216.239.32.0 – 216.239.63.255 I also unblocked outbound traffic on TCP ports 5222, 5223, 5228, 5269, 5280, 5281, & 5298. Still see a load of stuff being blocked related to "GoogleDuo" on the Sophos SG box, but it doesn't seem to break it. -
If your MAT is like ours, other schools don't *have* servers.
-
If I found that was how our SIMS team worked, I'd be moving our support away. Being provided support by people who can't even get it installed themselves? Absurd.
-
If your "SIMS team" aren't able to do it themselves, then they are not a SIMS team. They're certainly not going to be certified by Capita as such. SIMS is a paid product, and part of that is support - which includes SOLUS!
-
You shouldn't need an installer key at all - first, back up v5, install it without one, then you just use the configuration utility to restore the backup from your prior edition. This restores the original installer key and your own key. Indeed, that's the method Paxton recommend.
-
There's a host of files on S. Some letter templates, CTF input and output, census handling etc... It does a bunch of stuff. I'd highly recommend giving up with the manual install approach and get SOLUS 3 working - your SIMS support should be able to get this working for you. Its also important for keeping it all up to date.
-
Doesn't include OVS-ES.

What do you mean "action"? Voice takes action - they just don't take part in industrial action. They still provide representation, legal protection etc... Some people don't agree with striking when it comes to children's educations is all.

Another Voice member here. I've only ever had to email a couple of questions to them, but they've been quick and helpful when I did.

[sims] Sims Finance and Remittance emails sending problem
localzuk replied to browolf's topic in MIS Systems
You can also just give the relay@ account "send as" permissions for the other address. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/admin/add-users/give-mailbox-permissions-to-another-user?view=o365-worldwide -
[sims] Sims Finance and Remittance emails sending problem
localzuk replied to browolf's topic in MIS Systems
The key part there I think is the "MapiExceptionSendAsDenied". So, is the email address you're sending as the same one as the account the relay is working as? Basically, you have to ensure the sending account has the rights to send as that email address.
