It is effectively "free" if: 1/ You already have licensing for VM's 2/ You already have AV on your VM images 3/ Not sure why USB drives is an issue if the VM is just for running training data? Discover runs fine for both Green Abbey and Waters Edge on my VM's and my host PC is not powerful by any means. VirtualBox is free to use.

The Piston Box (aka, "Steam" Box) is up fro pre-order: The Piston Steam Box will start at US$1000 - Computers: PC, Mac, Laptop, Desktop, Tablet & Monitors It will start at US$1000 and ship Christmas 2013. While not the actual "Steam Console", this is the model Valve have invested in with Xi3, and it's it's been specifically designed to run Steam in Big Screen mode. Pre-order page if your interested: Xi3 | Buy Now - PISTON Console Edit: Interesting, the base model is actually US$899. Price goes up based on SSD size.

Any specific reason? If its cost, we use virtual box which is free to use and works a treat.

[news] GIMP and SketchUp Magazines out
Rawns replied to unixman_again's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Nice find, thanks for the share. Already uploaded to Dropbox ready to go on the iPad later. -
No, you can only have one Discover install pointing to one database. I'd suggest separating them both into two virtual machines. This will allow you to have one GA VM with SIMS and Discover, and one WE VM with SIMS and Discover.

[android] Need an Android app to play NAS based media
Rawns replied to Dos_Box's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Explain to me, why would I want to pay a monthly subscription for a service that I can get completely free with XBMC on all of my devices? -
to all you new people. Might I direct your attention to this key Steam related threads? http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/109500-arma3-alpha-steam-march-5th.html?highlight=DayZ http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/107315-dayz-standalone.html?highlight=DayZ

For some reason (most likely since their security breech), the latest Evernote installer is deemed as malware/spywear risk and has been blocked. I'll trade thanks/rep/virtual love to anyone who can download it for me and stick it somewhere I can reach? http://cdn1.evernote.com/win4/public/Evernote_4.6.3.8096.exe

[pics] Google Street View: Unusual Street View Shot

Yea, easier to manoeuvre in the big cities. I believe they are also doing areas where cars cannot go now, like cycle paths and large hill side walk routes. -

Hahaha! It's taken on the bike they use in populated/off road areas. Looks like they were loading/unloading it when it grabbed the pic. The GPS mapping device on the front of the bike looks interesting... -
The plus side of demos, being able to effectivly benchmark your rig for a game you wanted to see if it can handle it. Steam do still make a lot of demos available though. I miss the days of buying PC Gamer and getting a cover DVD with demos, drivers, indie games and mods! No call for it any more. Even back in the day when I had a commodore 64, the game mags used to include free games on a cassette on the front. Happy days.

The prototypes are not even made yet so the design will not have been finalised.

It could be the next generation of living room gaming devices. They say that the PS4 and Xbox 720(?) will be the last incarnation of their kind, maybe an open source device that runs Linux will allow greater scalability for audiences with different companies creating competing models?

Not an issue as i never buy AMD () graphics cards. Nvidia or bust for me.

I'm sure they will be working on porting some of the bigger games across to their console. Consoles are rarely released without some accompanying big name titles to play on them.

BBC News - Dishonored wins Best Game Bafta at 2013 video game awards Anyone know if these awards are televised at all? I would have loved to watch them! Anyone agree/disagree with the below awards? Had a quick peek at Dishonored on Steam and think I need to get it as it looks sweet! Not sure how that one passed me by!

A lot of games seem to be using Nvidia's Physix technology these days, ARMA3 being the latest one. As this is now processed by the GPU, has anyone though about buying, or actually bought a second cheaper Nvidia GPU for dedicated Physix processing? If so, what is performance like? Is there any real benefit to doing this?

[android] Need an Android app to play NAS based media
Rawns replied to Dos_Box's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
In my opinion, the only way to go with streaming media at home on a touch screen device is the full XBMC client! Nothing else comes close* to being as awesome IMO! * Disclamer - I love XBMC so much that I've never tried anything else, so that statement may not actually be accurate! Linky to the android installer: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/android/xbmc-12.0-Frodo-armeabi-v7a.apk I have it on my HTC Desire HD and works a treat. I even have the iOS version (I jailbroke my iPad specifically for XBMC) and like you I have it on when I'm in the kitchen. The missus got a nice set of Bluetooth Samsung speakers free with her mobile phone a few years ago so which sit in the kitchen, so I just connect my iPad to them via Bluetooth and stand the iPad in the window (or in my cook book holder! ) -
To be honest, I did not find very many bugs or glitches even though it's Alpha at the moment. The graphics really are stunning though! Played the showcase single player missions and they are all great fun. And the flying in this version seems to be a lot smoother and easier. Me and carbon played coop too and I was squad leader. When a squad member died, I kept automatically demanding the dead squad members status over the radio! That got rather annoying (4: STATUS! 4: STATUS! 4: STATUS! 4: WHATS YOUR STATUS?!...etc etc). Other than that, no other real issues. All it's done has left me with a craving for the full game!!!!

Shame SOLUS 3.5 has been delayed again. Was hoping to get 3.5 out before the Spring release.
