After a quick scan using WinDirStat, it appears that one of the pupils has created an awful lot of images depicting people being maimed with lightsabres and guns, all in stick-man form. Despite the blood and violence, he's created a lot of set pieces and stories, so they're well thought-through! It's been passed along to his head of year just in case, but he'd also created a powerpoint presentation about the types of games he plays, including Gears of War, GTA4 and Call of Duty. I'm not going to drop into the nonsense about games turning people into killers etc., but they have age restrictions on them for a reason. Do a lot of parents still hold the view that because it's only a game, the age ratings don't apply? I enjoy these games, but then I'm mature enough to understand them. If and when I have kids, they definitely wouldn't be playing any GTA games at 12 years old...

XP stores downloaded updates in the Windows Folder. In Vista they've been moved to SoftwareDistribution under Windows. Is it safe for me to delete the contents of the Download folder? There's nearly three gig in there which I'm keen to be rid of. Anyone know for definite?

One of our projectors recently went off to NEC for inspection, and we've been told that it would cost £225 to repair. We've decided to cut our losses and get a new one. Unfortunately, before it went off for repair it was giving an error code as if it needed a new lamp, so we went and purchased one. Anyone interested in purchasing a lamp for this projector? It's been removed from the box and plugged in, though as the projector is duff it's never been switched on. For all intents and purposes it's brand new. If anyone does want it, you can have the old bulb (there may be life in it, but I don't know) and projector too, if you're after spares. I'm looking at about £170. Someone make me an offer!

Our SLA with the local council means that they take care of the school backups. However, we've never been told in what form they take, and how far back they're stored. All I know for certain is we have seven days worth of onsite backups. This is what I'm planning: Two machines, one in the main server room, another in a separate building. The server room machine will back up the data, and then the remote machine will mirror it during the wee hours. We'll only need to do this once a week, due to the system already in place. What I'd like to know is what would be the best way of performing the backups? If we did a full backup every week, then I don't think we'd be able to go back more than a few months. I'm currently toying with the idea of a four-week cycle, with a full backup taken in the first week, and then either differential or incremental backups for the final three. After a year, it won't matter. So I need to design, build and implement a system that will do this automatically, creating new backups and deleting the old ones. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also: We have no money presently, so any software needs to be free!

Another G1 owner here, and I'm in love with the thing. It's pretty effortless to use, and the application market is gaining momentum all the time. The one thing that I'm missing at the moment is a decent ebook reader, which the iPhone has. On the other hand, the iPhone can't do background apps, which sucks pretty hard.

So after a big meal in the pub at lunch time, I've now found myself devoid of motivation. Any tips to help me keep moving forward?
