Is there a cheap and easy way to generate a map of the local network? I'd prefer something graphical, but Would settle for text output if needs must. Thank you.

One of our users is having issues with logging on to his machine. After the login prompt appears, it takes an age to get to the desktop. I have a number of CDs that contain material that can only be accessed via the cd-rom. Is there a utility that would be pretty foolproof and allow children to somehow mount a remote CD image and run material contained on it? I regularly use Daemon Tools, but I think it would be a little too technical for pupils. Anything school-friendly that you think would be of use? Cheers.

Now that the above has been answered, how about a hijack? I'm looking for a way to create an image of a disk, but remotely. For example, I want to sit my fat arse at my desk and after a few key presses be able to back up a remote workstation to a central image repository. I could always give DriveImage XML the C$ share of a workstation, but that's no good for a drive backup. Any ideas?

No, forget Flash. Apart from uses such as embedded video, I hate it. Ajax however is a good idea. I just wish my javascript skillz were anything but nonexistent.

Mainly web applications, but you can write a script in it for pretty much any purpose. There are also libraries ported to it for creating user interfaces, but to be honest if you're making a desktop application I'd use Visual Studio. Spiceworks is also written in Ruby.

I like Ruby. It's a simple syntax, you can knock something together in little time, and there's a lot of community development for it. Do you prefer mature women, too, el8linuxel8?

I was having this issue. I did a slipstream install for my Eee a while ago and kept coming up with the error. However, I tried once again the other week and it ran fine. Are you using nlite? Which version?

Any chance of upgrading to IE7? There's a free addon for it that, among other things, allows you to enable/disable the proxy with a key combination. IE7pro for Internet Explorer 7

We have a room with the machines on the floor, and they're all slowly dying with various faults. It's basically due to the kids kicking them (accidentally or maliciously, doesn't really matter) and the crap that's on the floor finding its way into the cases.
