I'm quite pleased that I got all answers correct when I initially did it. During the last coffee break I asked the office staff the questions, but they had all questions wrong. For example, they went for the intuitive '10 cents' for the first question before stopping to think about it. I wonder if there's a correlation between results for this test and the occupation of the one doing it. As a techie, I have to do a lot of rational analysis daily, so I'm probably just trained to think that way.

Some Critical thinking questions for you lot! 1. A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost? 2. If it takes 5 machines 5 minutes to make 5 widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets? 3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

We use the shutdown policy built into ABControl. Anything still on at half five will have a warning to say the system is being shut down, and they have thirty seconds to cancel it.

Can't help directly, but have you tried running the web loader and the scouring the temp files?

Good deal in that it's free, but does anyone actually still use a third party firewall if they're not behind a router? I fail to see the point, myself.

Is it possible to search a shared directory for either the presence or absence of a user or group?

Ok, I have it working now. All unattended, all lovely. I have a query though: If I run it once, it runs without issue. However, if I run it again immediately after (with the sysprep.ini file still in the folder) it will ask me for the details like I mentioned in the first post. Could anyone explain to me why it does this? Ta.

Yeah, I've done all the above, so I'm now playing with various things to see if I can work out what's happened.

What am I doing wrong? Ran setupmgr.exe and filled in all the stuff I needed. Copied the sysprep folder to the required machine, and ran sysprep.exe. Ticked the box for mini setup, and clicked reseal. Reboot. I then get asked to fill in the things like product key and username again. Which is what the sysprep.inf file is there for. Grrr.

For whatever reason, I'm unable to use PXE on our network, and need to use clonezilla live. Is there any way to run it from USB without having to enter things like keymap and dhcp options each time? All I want are to either clone to/from the disk/samba server, and then pick which image is required. Any ideas?

Just upgraded to version 6 of ABControl, which has the keyword trigger functionality. Rather that sully myself by typing everything in by hand (or trying to come up with anything creative), does anyone have an existing list of keywords that I could dump into the filter? Cheers.

I know, but I'd rather it be a single sign on, as it's not something a lot of teachers are going to bother with unless it's done automatically for them. I've done some research, and it looks like it's going to be possible.

I've set up a new Openfire server, and it's pulling in only the users I want from Active Directory, which is all good. What I want to be able to do is configure spark so that it automatically logs the user in when they've logged on to the machine. Is this achievable, or am I dreaming? Cheers all.

Cheers all! Already tried the autoruns tool from sysinternals, but that didn't throw up any difference to a regular machine. Ran a checkdisk before leaving for the day on Friday, so I'll see if that's done anything.

Is there any way to view a comprehensive breakdown of a computer's startup and logon? I have a machine that is taking anything up to twenty minutes to get to the login screen, and then another fifteen minutes to get to desktop after logon. I've done the whole cleanup and defrag routine, and there's nothing obvious in the event viewer. I'm pretty much at a loss as to what's going on, and near the point where I'm going to rebuild it.

Having said that, the roles that I'm being asked to fulfill aren't exactly purely technical, either...

Who traditionally takes on the role of IT Coordinator? Is it the Head of ICT, or is it the network manager? Just curious as I'm being asked to take on extra roles in anticipation of the current head of ICT/ICT coordinator retiring.

Some great ideas, guys! Well, the AP (a D-Link DAP-1160) arrived yesterday, and I've set it up today with the little netbook (Lenovo Ideapad S10e) that will be used. I had an "Ooh, I wonder if that's still lying around..." moment when I remembered there was a spare antenna with a higher gain than the one that came with the AP. Turns out that this was a good idea, as I can now have an entire block between myself and the AP. Our school is pretty compact, so I'd need about four or five in total, and the whole school will be covered.

Not really considering it as a possibility at the moment due to the thickness of the walls. There's a tennis court outside the gym, and where I'm thinking of situating it will reach out there. If it comes down to it and is not feasible, then I'll try and find somewhere else.

Cheers for that. I'll make sure the protective cage isn't grounded, so it shouldn't be too bad. I was thinking either a few vertical bars, or maybe something like a shopping basket, but stronger.

I'm going to need to place a wireless access point in a gym in order for the teachers to do online registration. Any idea what would be a good protection for the unit from balls etc.?
