Yes depending on the projector - some of them do them over the network (with windows 7 at least). But I'm fairly sure once its more mainstream there will be the technology to do this.

Not from what I can see and have read elsewhere - essentially after an old server was decommissioned the printers where lingering on the client machines (although they should have previously been removed). But windows tends to get funny when you try to delete printers on a machine which don't exist any more.

Fair enough - ok does it map drives to shares on the same server? or are the other shares on different servers?

Try typing net share at a command line and make sure there is nothing hidding in the background (it should be cleared on reboot.)

I tried the rundll32 printui and it wouldn't delete the printers nor would the gui hence why i had to dig further and further!

Here you go: replace the server names the first one is the source the second one is the target. Personally I would setup the new server identically as the old one (in terms of shares). Run the script to do an initial sync of data which will take a while. Then rename the old server and change its IP then change the IP and Name of the new server to the old one which then saves the need to change unc paths etc loads. If you run that script more then once it will only copy what has changed.

Thanks that works brilliantly! At the end end of the script it echo's the registy value - any idea what to remove? I havn't got a clue with VB you see! EDIT: - removed the obvious message box line!

Thats what I thought - but if you look under HKCU\Printers\Connections there is none - if I look under HKU\\PRINTERS\connections there is the printers listed - remove these and it keys below and the printers are removed from printers and faxes. So Far I know that reg delete HKU\\Printer\Connections\,,servername,printername works and wmic useraccount get name, sid | findstr %username% outputs username Just need a way to combine the two to do what i need!

I think I can get the user sid by doing this wmic useraccount get name, sid | findstr %username% - just need to work out a way for doing that in a batch/vbs to then combine with the reg delete

I'm trying to script something to delete printer connections which are stuck in the registry (through some third party software). The problem is they are in HKEY_Users\\Printers\Connections\,,Printername, I've looked at reg delete but can't seem to get it to work with wildcards! I did start a thread a while back here but its sligtly different this time!

Well they knew we where looking at an alternative to SLG which came in at something stupid like 12k so maybe they just slipped under thinking we would jump for it.

I threaded my network lead through a Coax socket on the wall by making a slight whole in the bottom (my router is about a foot away from the socket. It then runs around the outside of the house tacked to the wall and then in through another hole I drilled on the other side of the house.

I don't know if it affects any building regs but i routed stuff around my house and nobody has complained - i ran it will some co-ax which was already in place and you can't really tell.

Well depends on how secure you want to be but you could do something like with the password parameter as the username? net use P: \\server\share /user:%username% %username% (i can't remember where you put password in when scripting).

Why don't you setup the Samba Server to auth against AD? surely that makes it simplier? There is a good guide on the Wiki - but never tried it with Centos - with Ubuntu it works Alternatively you could setup the usernames the same on the samba server and use things like %username% etc in the batch files.

When I had the sales guy in he said the parts that needed to run to communicate with Sims had to run on there own physical host (it uses business objects/API does it not) in some weird way. The web server hosting Moodle itself is separate. I think the reason the costings I thought where OTT was that we simply wanted the Parental Reporting features of the product and in the end went with ZiLink for a fraction of the cost and the functionality we required at the time. And it was one of those sales people that pesters you every day asking for progress - which i don't like anyway!
