Hi We are looking to migrate the file server to a new server. I am planning to use robocopy but they are so many commands, could somebody point me what switches I need to copy all files and take permissions with them. The plan is to move the files and run again to to copy everything that has changed. Thanks in advance

Hi folks, I’ve had a troll through the posts and can’t find the answer to my robocopy problem. Basically I have to copy virtual images to many lab computers on campus. I’ve been using a command line: robocopy "\\servername\imagesfolder$\VMWare\VM Labs 2011-12\c-Drive" "\\targetPC\c$\VMWare" /E /R:3 /W:5 In the “c-Drive” folder on the server I have 3 or 4 VMs, and the script checks the target PC to see if the VM is already there and if not it copies over the missing VM folder. Problem is I have to run the script in a cmd shell, then edit the targetPC name and run the script again in another cmd shell and so on. Very time consuming and can often have 50 or 60 cmd windows open on screen! Could anyone tell me how I can pipe in a txt file into my command line with the targetPC names in it and the command will read from that txt please? I also need it to be running the copy to the entire list of PCs at the same time. In other words not copy to one PC then move to the next and so on. Any help gratefully appreciated  Rob

Hi everyone, I've been tasked with migrating file data from many servers to many other servers and have been given a powershelll script to use (as it can be code signed). The script basically inserts parameters into robocopy but I'm having trouble with the directories, they are listed in Powershell but when I look at the robocopy log the directories are changed to c: (source) and c: (destination), not sure what I'm missing! Set-StrictMode -Version 2.0 $VerbosePreference = "SilentlyContinue" # Set to SilentlyContinue to surpress write-verbose messages $smtp = “mail server” $to = “email” $from = “email” $ScriptName = $MyInvocation.MyCommand.Name $subject = “Subject” $logtime = Get-Date -Format "yyyyMMddhhmm" $attachments = “Logs” + $logtime + ".log" $emailbody = " $($scriptname)running from $($PSScriptRoot) by $($env:username) on $($env:computername) " + ` " Attached log file " + ` “Please view" # # Directories to mirror # $directories = @( (“\\server\share\source”, "\\server\share\destination”), ` ("\\server2\share\source", "\\server2\share\destination") ` ) $logging = "/LOG:" + $attachments $notify = 0 # foreach($directory in $directories) { Write-Verbose "$($directory[0])" Robocopy $directory[0] $directory[1] /MIR /R:2 /W:5 /COPYALL /DCOPY:T /ZB $logging ` /XF "~$*" ".vss_command" "Thumbs.db" ".DS_Store" "DS_Store" "*.tmp" ` /XD "$directory[0]\Experiential\.TemporaryItems""$directory[1]\.TemporaryItems" "$directory[1]\~snapshot" If ( $LASTEXITCODE -gt 1 ) { $notify = 1 } $logging = "/LOG+:" + $attachments } If ( $notify ) { Send-MailMessage -To $to -from $from -Subject $subject -Body $emailbody -bodyashtml -SmtpServer $smtp -Attachments $attachments Write-verbose "Email sent" }

I have a script and a .txt file that has a list of computers. Below is the batch file i run to copy the SD folder to the listed computers. for /f %%i in (c:\SD\Computers.txt) do robocopy C:\SD\ \\%%i\C$\ /E Pause. Right now the batch file copy's all contents of the SD folder to each computer one at a time. What could i do to make to copy to all the computers at the same time? Also i don't care its is VBS or any other language even powershell. Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I’m wondering if somebody could help with this issue. I have a user with two user shares, "U" being the new file share and "Z" being the old file share. Initially all files were copied from Z to U. The old file share was not removed(oopps). This one user has been saving to both "U" and "Z" some files on "Z" the old file server are a newer version of the"U". Can somebody help with a robocopy command so as all the files on the new file server "U" are the latest and most up to date without over writing anything that may have been saved on the new file server. I hope that makes some sense… I used the command "robocopy \\srv-x-x\sharename \\srv-x-x\Users\sharename /E /XC /XN /XO" The command ran ok but the user informed me that she did not have the latest files on U! Thanks for any tips
