download is just port 80/443 I believe. From clients to server it varies depending on what is set in IIS I think - How to Determine the Port Settings Used by WSUS EDIT: you will need to make sure it has unfiltered access and doesn't require auth.

Bandwidth to the main server is fine - its the bandwidth between the DCs which is/could be the issue as it shares it with all the other servers. I think though we should be ok.

Personally I have found BE 2012 a pita for anything! It seems Symantec have ruined it! Anyway - I think setup the jobs to disk and then once the backup set is on the disk you can choose to replicate to tape. One nice thing they have included is that if you have a server using the agent (as in physical) you can backup to disk and make a VM (which will make a vm of your physical server after backup.)

Thanks Sukh - so as long as the latency is less the 500ms it doesn't matter on the speed of the connection? I'm planning three servers two in one Datacenter (offshore) and 1 in a secondary (connected via VPN in another country). They will not be Active/Active. This company handles financial data hence the need for multiple DC in various countries etc

Not sure if its my google skills failing me. Just trying to draw together a plan to replace 3 2007 Exchange servers with 3 2010 Exchange servers with DAG. Currently 3 x 2007 Sp1 boxes (to be upgraded to SP3 Prior to any move) 1 located with customer 2 at seperate Datacenters. Changes are replicated VIA Double Take. What we are looking to do is move to Exchange 2010 with all servers in a DAG group - all this is fine and dandy in my planning. The only part I can't seem to find out is the WAN requirements of DAG groups. Anybody able to find any documentation/information.

I used Smoothwall as well - simple becuase both the content filtering and the reporting side of things are wicked. Completely customiseable and the interface is simple and effective. The feature set provided is really good. Squid and Dansguardian works but I would only put that into production with a good upstream filter - we used to use it for local filtering when connected to the LEA WAN.

Exchange 2007 is supported on R2 from SP2. Are there any errors in the event logs regarding IIS or Exchange? Does the server think Physical hardware has changed such as network cards etc? (I don't know much about Xen so could be wrong).

I think you will need to change the ownership of the folders and then set the permissions.

Yeah just have onenote open and then when it prompts you to put on a page select copy to clipboard and paste into word.

Onenote does this with windows key and S. You can also use Onenote to house the documentation.

Offsite backup is an option with Veeam and Cheaply. I know Databarracks now support Veeam backups direct to there servers rather then there own backups.

Probably need to enable IGMP (Multicast broadcasting) but I have never used System center so not 100% sure.

Nope - what physical machines have you got? Veeam backs up by taking Snapshots and backing up the original state (but only what has changed). then removing the snapshot. Backup Exec's would do what you want and its vmware offering is similar but not as good as veeams. EDIT: veeam won't do backup to tape either.

Veeam then. Brilliant as you can boot from a backup essentially. Also lots of free apps and is being expanded more and more (such as the Exchange tool on beta at the moment.).

What do you use for the Front end? Windows? linux? what virtualisation platform do you run if any? EDIT: depending on Platforms I would either head towards Veeam or MS DPM if not virtulised on either Hyper-V or ESXI.

i had a larger budget then oriel would of had. Just dislike half of the Microsoft offerings. I'm working with VMware now in large installations and a lot of VDI stuff which is good.
