Why does do these people that are training new humans fear change so much. If you work for a company often people want the latest and greatest in schools it seems the other way round. It also unfortunately like a Trident missile IT managers are not required to provide a system that does x and y they must use SIMS. So they can’t move the MIS to a better system unless higher management who have use the whole lives let go. It amazing that new teachers are supposed to use a SIMS without prop training!

I used to love Octopus but they don’t cover NI I wish they did so I am stuck with SSE. I don’t understand why the NI energy market does not have the same chose as the rest of the UK.

One suggestion is to user a Sonoff TH16 with temperature probe on you hot water as you can then set different temperatures during the day. As in the morning you might need a lot for a shower. We also normally only have are heating on for two hours a day and use the stove to burn logs that are currently an old shed.

I think some Headteacher have not be genuine and they have force this position on staff.

We got surface laptop 4 16GB

We got a good number of Surface Laptop 4. I had a phone call form MS support the suggestion at the moment is to try limiting the Memory the OS users starting form 8GB = 8192. I now have an issue that secure boot does not allow setting the Maximum memory setting. Anyone got a suggestion how to allow this? Thanks

They have had a firmware update and they are running the latest windows. One of the unit I have hands on and I have run the Surface data erase and factory image. I did this to one of the other unit and it still caused issues and started bluescreening.

I now have 4 Microsoft laptops that are BSOD ing. Has any ones else experienced this and what did they do to fix it? These laptop are running of software built form the factory and then they have been Intuned.

I got rack from ETB technologies around 10 years ago and it was a great deal. It cost about £2K including 2 racks and kitting out (KVM + Screen and shelves for server that did not rack).

I would use PFsense if I just wanted firewall or Paloalto for firewall.

It just find it a shame they don’t have to offer a choose of MIS and I don’t know how NI schools move a way from SIMS. SIMS WS my most hated product for my over 10 years in education. I also find the federated service log on very old fashioned. I don’t know how you innovate with IT it seems worse than Birmingham LEA Capita setup.

How do schools move forwards with a modem MIS when they are stuck with SIMS. Schools don’t have cashless and they seem behind in some aspects of IT. Also the C2K log on is still using federated services for their front page. It seems schools can’t innovate as they have to wait for a BSF IT setup.

All good points but we had 3 years olds dial 999. Also BT not an isp like zen or AA it for people thar want to talk tech to support people. Also the old national monopoly what happened to all these cool companies? I now become a stupid person that use BT not with a cool company like zen.

Just I can’t use the landline and Openreach are not protecting emergency connections.

BT use the router to do their digital voice. Or I need to wait until my contract runs out. So BT are not providing a voice line for people with their own routers.

Am I letting the side down and fellow edugeeks by having a BT connection at home. If I wait I could go to another proper ISP like zen but I can upgrade for to 150\30mb £34.99. Also I can’t use my home phone as I not using BT router.

I don’t know why SLT’s want to consider sims? Everyone knows it rubbish even most teach staff but some SLT seem to be addicted. It should not be considered as it is not cloud technology.
