Has anyone be able to configure plugin for Firefox with Configuration policy using Intune? I currently have this: value="1file:///C://Windows//SysWOW64//[email protected]"/> I am trying to enable Hitachi Finger Vein reader for Barclays. The event log says that the file cannot be found. Also has anyone found a good way of transferring admx files into configuration policies?

MS stop this change to teams new meeting experience?
nicholab replied to nicholab's topic in Cloud Services
I can understand it in a meeting but in a call it can be a pain. If I need to close teamviewer and hand up the call I found myself losing the hand up button something also breaking PSTN to call queue/hunt group is not great. -
MS stop this change to teams new meeting experience?

But having a extra windows opening is not helpful as I find that you can lose the hang up button. Also it seem to break internal transfers of call to hunt groups. -
I hate the new meeting experience in Teams were a new windows pops out it seem like MS don't care and at some point will force this on you. Anyone else feel the same?

Migrating network home folders to one drive but retaining local speed?
nicholab replied to nueon's topic in Cloud Services
We are using Azure files for fxlogix storage. -
I need to install two installshield packaged programs but the PowerShell scrip exits out rather then installing the second. I think it's the installshield that exiting out. This is for Hitachi finger vein readers.

Most schools don’t have HR department and they have happy staff. It very interesting now working for a company with an HR department.

Does this ISP not have a business package you could use? Also will Openreach not do the install with fibre on poles? Can’t believe the management have not pushed for this upgrade. How was the school original connected to the phone network and how can’t there be a requirement that schools have to get a proper connection.

In this document from 2016 Bromcom/Harris have some costs https://www.bromcom.com/Resources/CaseStudies/Transitioning-to-the-Cloud–Harris-Federation’s-Journey-to-a-Cloud-MIS.pdf.

There must be an ISP that will work for you I once had 5 telegraph poles installed to get fibre installed. The install cost was £10k have you looked at the https://www.ukwispa.org website and see if there is anyone in your local area? You could go for Lea and some kind of fail over just for MIS/e-mail.

It also a good question why does the IT team not able to crack the whip and get people doing what there told?

Will there be a new paper looking at cloud schools after several years since the original paper came out?
-
The school I worked at went for onsite so lost some of the benefits. Including remote access and full managed stack. They did not even have a vm environment so they were mad going onsite. Sandwell Lea internet that we had at the time was poor.

This is Saas so the cloud provider is managing the finished product for you it user ready. When I looked a couple years ago iSAMS was more expensive everything else was about the same if we had 480 pupils in an all through school. Cost wise Sims cost us £10k and a support contact with someone local was £4.5k. You will find some staff can not think outside the SIMS box. Also migrated all you data I worked in a school that did not and it was a pain the old system had to be used for old records. Go for at least 7 years.

[ms office - o365] Office 365 group not showing in Outlook
nicholab posted a topic in Office Software
Has anyone resoled the issue where office 365 groups show in OWA but not on the Outlook client? -
My sons school is using c2k net and it seems rubbish but still no schools seems brave enough to do their own thing. The log on is using federated services which seems a very old fashioned way of doing it.

Why do all the NI schools user c2knet and SIMS and don't use there own cloud service, ISP's and other better MIS's cloud.

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
nicholab replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
Having been out of education for a year and a bit I have been working at home since March. I don’t understand why some SLT want support staff in when they have jobs that could be done at home. A large proportion of them are office based so could be working at home. It also seem strange that some schools did not have catch up with students on a weekly basis.
