I guess the other issue would be around is any one leasing computers?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes I agree in terms of the firmware and BIOS once they are not being updated we generally try to stop using them.

Hi All, Apologies if this is the wrong forum, I was not sure which to post this question in. We, like many of you, have had some very lean years in terms of budgets and we are now in a position to start replacing our aging IT Room computers. Previously in the "good times" we would replace IT Room computers on a rolling 5 year cycle, as we use Dell we would purchase 5 years of Pro Support and that would see out the computers before retiring either to WEEE, a charity or another area of the school in need of older less critical hardware. However since budget constraints stopped that cycle we have had to sweat those computers and after 10 years they are now starting to be replaced. They still work, they still cope with the software being used but they are suffering physically. So my question is how long are others keeping your computers for? What are your replacement plans? Our only real issue looking ahead is when Windows 10 is EOL and we need to move to Windows 11, our current computers do not have TPM 2. Many thanks Mike

We have the opposite problem, we don't want search at all for the reasons stated above that students can just click start and then run programs. How have people stopped search on their start menus? We have gone through GPOs made mandatory profiles redirected the start menu but with no success. Many thanks

No you still cannot join an RT device to a domain.

Hi Guys, Has anyone set this up on Server 2012 yet? Have you found any pitfalls? We are going to be migrating from a 2008 R2 RDS farm to 2012 soon so wanted to see if anyone had tried anything with Windows Store apps being used as Remote Apps? Thanks

Windows RT devices run ARM CPUs and they can not run Windows 8 Pro. But as said it depends what they want to run and if you have access to remote apps or similar.

I was at Microsoft London the other week with the Office 365 product manager asking the exact same question. He was telling me that they are having to upgrade in two stages. All Live@Edu accounts upgraded to Office 365 2010 and then upgraded to Office 365 2013. They have told him they hope to complete both upgrades by September but have a deadline of December. He also said he could not get out of them who is getting upgrading when. He was quite annoyed by that. Ironically if you and I signed up today without ever having had Live@Edu we would get the new Office 365 2013 version.
