Windows 3.1 file copying is awesome compared to Vista file copy!

There is a cracker just off the M6 opposite Lancaster University. Trouble is you have to drive up the M6 to see it so not sure how I'm going to snatch a photo. Can you do 70 mph one handed and looking in the wrong direction on the motorway? Thinking about it I probably can but not for long!

We've used 2 or 3 in various schools around here and they seem a really good product. The schools we have put them in love 'em. Additionally I can highly recommend Inclusive as a company.

My understanding is that it is up to the council concerned but policy is generally that SCPs (spinal column points) are matched. In my experience I have always had the point matched or in several cases put on the next point up.

Our SENCO (who likes IT) tried it out and hated it. It just didn't fit in with the way our school worked.

A bit down in Kendal - not huge amounts but enough for us to close for the day! I think that is the 1st full day in about 9 years here!

We've got a fair amount of snow but are still open. About a 1/3rd of the staff off. It really hacks me off - the snowfall we get is tiny and people can't manage to drive a few miles to work!

We looked at them but in the end decided to put large plasma screen in instead. Obviously you loose the interactivity aspect but the food tech staff seem happy enough without it. Just another thing to think about.

Due to the successful promotion of yet another of my team we are recruiting again. We are seeking either a senior technician or a trainee technician depending on who applies. For the trainee role a good healthy interest in ICT and hopefully some qualifactions from FE/A Levels. Term time only + 4 weeks. Salary Range £11900 to £13000 (pro rata) depending on experience For the senior technician role a couple of years experience preferably with Windows Server/XP/switching and networking kit etc. Additionally experience with Sharepoint and/or VLEs would be useful. Term time only + 4 weeks. Salary Range £15500 to £16500 (pro rata) depending on experience Either post will also support our performing arts department so some AV skills would be handy. We are a small team of 4 inc. this post and we support the school and some feeder primaries. The school itself is high achieving and I have to say very friendly. We have a tremendous relationship with teaching colleagues and seem to have a better deal than lots of other people on here. There is a genuine respect for what we do and vice versa. Lot of other stuff - photoshop, video editing, cad/cam etc. Pretty much anything our desktops are used for.

Also don't forget the simple stuff. We have had several machines that loop in this way and booting to CD and running chkdsk /f has sorted 99% of them.

Ah well - that should solve that problem then.

We have 5 trolleys of 15 including 1 of Macbooks which media use. I would make the following observations. 1. They will get damaged - how much will probably depend on your staff. We have mixed results depending on which department own them. Some are great and check them in and out - others less good to the point where laptops have been dropped. 2. Good wireless infrastructure is important. Now we have managed wireless things are much better. 3. We moved to mandatory profiles - again this makes life a whole lot better (to be fair on the network as a whole) 4. Buy high quality kit - we have some RM Mobile Ones and they are much better than some of our other kit. Are they a good thing? Well they certainly solve a problem and allow us to give ICT kit to a number of courses which we would struggle to run without them as we don't have the space to put in more fixed suites. They have got better with time - maybe as we have equipped our teachers with some basic skills/troubleshooting/do's and don'ts. Would I like a laptop for every student (as has been suggested) - NO! but that's a different discussion.

We're very dull. Ours are named after the room so J19-001 to J19-030 etc. The servers on the other hand are much more amusing (well to me at least) in that they are named after Muppets.

We currently block YouTube for staff and students. Staff will often email a link to a particular video which we then download for them. As the use becomes greater I think I will end up allowing staff access to YouTube so they can use it on the board as a resource. Can't see me changing the policy for students at the moment.

It's not the SWC ones. Actually if you could check this I would appreciate it. The report just contains forename & surname of staff then the absences subtable with abs. start and abs. end filtered by date. When I (and the capita agent) ran this it only pulls abesences upto a certain date despite me knowing there are more. The answer I got back was this is a known issue since Nov.

Just for the record the November release(s) do break reporting on staff absences. I have a report that ran fine to tell me all the absences for staff and now it doesn't. The response is "oh yes - it MAY be fixed in December or January release." Very useful as we prepare for the Schools Workforce Census pilot!

I agree - they need to build that simple click system to get reports out into SIMS.net We stopped using T4 for anything else this year but we keep pulling the data into it and letting staff use it as default user to get quick class lists etc.

I disagree - I think the tabloids would have torn the government to shreds

This is outrageous. I in no way support the BNP or it's views but to have this list published is awful. If this had been a list of anything else - e.g people on benefit, people recieving working familes tax credit there would be uproar!
