    Reset to defaults. Try it a few times as sometimes HPs don't always reset first go.

    I'm doing my CCNA at the moment. Using the Trainsignal Cisco CCNA Training package to do it in my spare time. It's pretty good som far. Can anyone recommend any other source materials I can use to brush up before the exam? Cheers!

    Maybe you could get USB headphone sets + extensions? If you are just looking for the cables bthe est & cheapest bet is to get a few mini-jack extensions cable-tied together with colored tape on the inputs to distinguish mic from headphones.

    NAS with replication somewhere else (different location) would be my pick. If you are planning the new solution to be "future compatible" I would rethink the whole media removal bit you get with tape. It goes along the lines of "old technology for old thinking"/"It's not broken so don't fix it". Your best bet would be NAS to NAS replication, then off to tape if you have a current long term archival need (+ media removal), then when eventually SSD "Tapes" will come about they will make this a different coversation, but for now they are expensive and not meant for long term archives.

    Have you tried burying the laptop in rice for a week and then seeing if it works? It might be moisture in the circuits. If this is the case, as long as the circuits are not fried the rice trick will remove all moisture from the laptop & components. I've used this to save 1 laptop and several phones before!

    The guides on Xtravirt.com and Petri.co.il are good for starting out. I used them when i was getting started. You should also try joining/following the Virtualization Twitter/blog communities as they are very helpful! Eric Siebert's site has a good index of all of the best sites: vLaunchPad

    Xtravirt.com have a couple of ESX on USB dongle guides. They might be helpful. I do know that unless you purchase the "specific VMware USB dongle" (even though you can use any old USB donge) for your version of ESX VMware will not provide support.

    esXpress is now in version 4 (re-named PHD Virtual backup for VMware). We also have an ESXi solution on our roadmap with beta coming in September. We'll also be at VMworld this year so if any of you are going drop by booth #115. Feel free to message me also for more info.

    VMware have acknowledged this issue outside of John Troyer's responses by putting up a public knowledgebase here: VMware KB: Reverting to a pre-existing snapshot under specific conditions can cause incremental backups based on CBT (Changed Block Tracking) to become inconsistent

    Hi all, Just posting to make you aware of a major issue with the way VMware handles the indexing of the ChangeID. Unfortunately the ramifications are rather large...if your chosen backup software does not do a '*' ChangeID backup (i.e. a query for all 'dirty' or used blocks in a VMDK after a 'revert', or a 'goto' in a snapshot tree) and a duplicate "unique" ChangeID is used for the backup then your backups could well be corrupt. There is more information on Tom Howarth's blog site which basically covers the jist of the problem. Major Issue with Change Block Tracking | PlanetVM As far as I know esXpress 4.0 is the only backup product to date that has confirmed a current implemented workaround for this issue. If a backup taken of a machine has a snapshot esXpress forces the changeID to * what this means it will copy ‘all dirty blocks’. This is obviously a bit slower, but until VMware fix the CBT issue it is 100% reliable.

    I agree with the "Two Accounts" option. Just dial down their privilages on both accounts and it should work for your needs.

    For stuff like this i reccomend you also try the Xtravirt site. They produce free whitepapers on practically everything "Virtual"

    In my experience it's a very stable produt that works really well. Nice and lightweight too!

    esXpress is a good ESX backup solution. ESXi support is currently under development so keep you eye out for that too!

    esXpress is suitable for this and will suit your budget as it's pricing package is on a per-host basis rather than per-cpu.

    Do you mean is it cheaper compared to VMware Data Recovery (VDR) that comes with VMware vSphere 4.0?

    Sounds like an IPad would do the job. Although the touch keyboard will not be ideal. Maybe when they release one with a USB port?

    You might like to take a look at esXpress for an "Enterprise" level backup solution similar to VDR 1.0
