  1. SW did get back to me late on Friday. They've updated the driver (despite us already being on Leeds-53) which was causing the 'flapping' on and off. Fingers crossed now, (though this has raised other issues!). Thanks for your response, I've spent a lot of time (and money) trying all sorts, including those from the above list where I can.
  2. I'm trying to track down network/internet problems, and have this repeatedly in the Kernel log. I have an 'urgent' case open with Smoothwall, but as yet, no reply. It's logged randomly, but in each case it's for around 0 - 6 seconds, and several times a day. It'll explain why our internet has been unreliable, and why our new VOIP system has been dropping packets. Is this more likely to be the SW box, or other devices? Anybody with similar experiences? Oh, this has been going on for months and I've only just discovered this...
  3. I've found that the 'Reset' option, using Clear User Profiles from the Admin console does appear to work (for me, today). I've done this in bulk on a couple of trollies and has had the desired effect. Not ideal, but does seem to be a workaround for now. Google are looking at it with us.
  4. Just to chip in, we're also seeing this problem. You can individually clear space to get logs from a device by changing sign-in screen options to display a list of accounts, then removing a few dozen (in my epxerience) manually. I've done this on one device and submitted logs. Waiting to hear back.
  5. Just got a test handset in for this, but struggling to get it connected to the server. We use Smoothwall, don't suppose anyone has any gotchas to highlight?
  6. We've only had the Huawei splash when the bandwidth limit, 20GB has been reached. Easily possible in 3 days if being abused!

  9. The original SIM has it switched off, so this shouldn't have been causing it, I did think that. The only things I haven't done since getting it working (but may do if I can be bothered) is to reset one of our older dots to see if it's just the 4th gen that's affected, and reset one of these now working 4th gen ones to see if it happens again in the same way. I can't troubleshoot anything, only identify the symptoms!
  10. Just need to vent this. Background - Home broadband on Three with Huawei Router - Old Ruckus Kit with 3 APs - Huawei portable 4G HotSpot available - Vodafone Contract in mobile phone - Three 4G PAYG SIM available - Three Unlimited SIM available - Alexa and Sonos devices in the house - Internet and all devices working OK Issue New Echo Dots (4th gen, the spherical ones) purchased for Xmas presents. Unable to get them online. They connect to the app in setup, see the WiFi, register on the WiFi, but then fail. I tried different SSIDs, created new ones, 2.4, 5, direct WiFi to the Router, WiFi via 4G hotspot, all the same. Tried the 3 different Three SIMs in all the above configurations, all the same. After several hours, I put my Vodafone SIM in the 4G hotspot and that worked first time. I've then put the same Voda SIM into the Huawei router, got the 2 Dots setup first time again (different WiFi so have to go through setup again). Swapped the SIM back and the Dots continue to work. It appears (for me at least) that the setup process on the 4th gen echo dot does not play well on the Three network. Why? No idea. Annoying? Very much. Frustrating Xmas day? Indeed. Just thought I'd put this here for info, and if anyone has any idea why this might have happened.

  12. Those settings already appear to be in place (I guess when the SW engineer enabled the service on our box). What proxy setting do I need to be using in GSuite Admin to get this to work please?
  13. I'm using cloud filter (the new extension), which works fine offsite. To use the chromebooks offsite, I have to set them to have 'no proxy' otherwise it gives a proxy error as it can't find it. This is fine if they are only using the device at home. When they come into school, what can I do to get the traffic through the SW? If I leave it to Auto, they get the SSL. If I set it off, they get nothing. If I change it to the manual details, it's fine until they go home again. Would Connect for Chrome identify them properly and pass the traffic through the SSL login page?
  14. OK, sorted. I'd originally added the DNS entry to our SW in the Static DNS Hosts, but when our support company changed the IP, I must have forgotten to change it in there. Now working internally via Chromebooks!
  15. Allowed in Smoothwall? It does appear to be a DNS style issue where it's trying to find the server outside rather than inside?

I'm sure this must have been answered, and people must be doing it, but how do you set up your users in G Suite so that they can use chrome devices in school (through Smoothwall), then take a school device home and use it. Currently: - Students have a specified proxy in G Suite so when they log into a ChromeOS device, they can use the on premise Smoothwall as their route to the internet. - Students who are isolating are being moved into an OU in G Suite that has 'No Proxy' defined so that they can connect to their own home internet and get online. If they come back into school, I have to move them back into the regular OU. - We are using SW Cloud Filter for users off premise, and this seems to be working well, I am also looking to use this when they are on premise if possible. What's the ideal setup so students can move in and out of school and have a seamless experience, please!? Thanks in advance.
  17. We've got this set up working outside school, but how are you getting it to work inside the network? I can't get our chromebooks to see the server URL, I thought I'd created exceptions where necessary, but I think it's still looking to go outside to get to the internal resource. It works internally on other devices (Windows, Mac). AD DNS, Smoothwall, Ruckus WiFi. Thanks in advance.

  19. Could be interested in the Airs, have you got 12 in total? Are they all lightning adapters, and therefore run the latest iOS?

  22. If you are using the attachment compliance setting to block the file type, go back to that option, and at the bottom of that box, click on show options and you can have exclusions. Alternatively, create a quarantine where all such messages get delivered, and just release the ones that you deem are allowed on a periodic basis.
  23. To probably, hopefully answer my own question after a bit more digging, I've found the (new?) Safety section in the Settings for Gmail. It has a range of options covering what I need, though it doesn't have an option to move possibly offending emails to a quarantine for admin examination (to check if it's working correctly or not), you can move them to spam or mark them with a warning.
  24. Just picking up on this one. To answer the question, the default quarantines I find to be great, but being able to add your own rules based on a huge array of things from common phrases to attachment types, makes is even better. I find the filtering very good, though some do still get through, occasionally. Recently, we do get emails with links/attachments from non-existent users at our domain. The ones with attachments of a certain type get quarantined as per the policy I've set up, but others may make their way through. I spent some time today seeing if there was an easy to implement solution to the problem (spoofed emails allegedly from our domain), and have come up with this. A compliance rule set up on inbound messages, using the advanced match, with sender header and envelope sender containing our domain name. These get directed to a separate quarantine for inspection. It has caught some already (also caught by the default quarantine settings and my attachment compliance), and no false positives. Question for experienced users though, is there an easier way to do this? I'd have thought there would be, but haven't found it, and helpful Google conversation confirmed my method would work, but could offer no better/easier.
