Mathswatch video's
chinesewhispers replied to nicholab's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
If it helps, they've told me they won't be discontinuing the old system until they've satisfactorily resolved the hosting of the videos on the new system. I guess they're looking for an alternative video hosting solution. -
Mathswatch video's
chinesewhispers replied to nicholab's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We've reported the same. As soon as I was passed the details of the new system, looked at the source and saw Vimeo all over it, I told maths to not hold out too much hope. I contacted maths watch and they sent me a vast list of individual clip urls, and done root urls to white list. When I went back to them and suggested whitelisting vimeo was not a great idea, they acknowledged, said they were looking on to it, and that the old site could be used for now. The more people that get in touch with them, the better. This was 2 weeks ago, so saying no-one else has reported it is not true. -
BETT 20-23 Jan 2016: Who is thinking of going?
chinesewhispers replied to bald_pig's topic in BETT 2026
I'm on the 0730 train in the morning tomorrow for both Friday and Saturday. Lucky enough to join the Edugeek team last year for food at the local eatery on the Friday, very welcoming to a lurker. Just working up my badge, nothing too imaginative. -
Why are you not looking into Bromcom?
-
Just to say Salamander have worked their magic on our set up and we have the restrictions in place that we need for now.
-
Does the Salamander update allow you to manage the Access Control section completely, or just change the Owner of the group?
-
We use Salamander to pull data from Bromcom into our AD, so can't be of help on this one I'm afraid. Have to say Salamander and the team is great though!

Hello all. I've just started syncing our groups, and whilst the 'owner' setting isn't concerning me too much just yet, the fact that all the groups are set to 'Custom' and 'Anyone' means that all the groups can be addressed by anybody with an email address. 1. Am I understanding this correctly? 2. Is there a way around it so that when groups are created, they are done so with either 'Restricted' or 'Team' as the Access Levels? How are you getting round this, do I have to resort to learning GAM?

Chrome home button not working
chinesewhispers replied to chinesewhispers's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
OK, so it seems I have to have the 'Use New Tab Page as homepage' set to disabled for the homepage to work. Something I didn't have set in the previous policies. I've read and re-read the explanations that accompany the settings, but still can't see that this is made clear, or if this is a bug. -
Chrome home button not working
chinesewhispers posted a topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hello all A problem since updating to the latest chrome policies (adm) and/or chrome version to v42.0.2311.135 Our home button now sends users to the standard google search home page. I've checked the applied policies on the clients using chrome://policy, and the correct entry is shown. The startup URL (same URL as the home button should send to) works correctly, and I've created a managed bookmarks folder with the URL and that works correctly. At the moment, for staff to get to our intranet page, they either have to close Chrome and open it again, or use the extra step of the link in the Managed bookmarks folder. Is anybody else seeing the same behaviour? -

Thanks so much again for the hospitality during the day and the meal last night, very much appreciated, and proved that people on the internet are real, and human!

I'm trying to set up a wordpress site as our intranet. I've got this far: - installed Ubuntu 14.04 VM - updated Ubuntu - installed and configured LAMP - downloaded and installed Wordpress Everything has been OK so far, a bit of a learning curve for a non-Linux user, but good up to here. Now the problem appears to be that Wordpress cannot access the web. RSS feeds on the dashboard give an error, and the plugins/theme install pages give errors. We've got a Smoothwall box doing our filtering and firewall, so I've added the IP of the VM as a 'location' in smoothwall to bypass the proxy. I've also added the values in the wp-config.php file as shown here: WordPress Proxysupport | Still the same. If I add wordpress.org in SW to the Auth Bypass category, it appears to work, but I'm concerned this may open up users to be able to access some sites we don't want (though most blogs are blocked on wordpress.com not .org I think). Is anybody successfully using the setup above?

We have this, where a particular cab with 2 or 3 switches loses power, this behaviour occurs when it powers back on. The cab contains a switch with trunked fibre connections to the core switch, and also the first link to the VOIP server. Not sure whether it's the order the switches boot up in (time taken), or something else, but it was the second time it happened that I managed to pin it down. Electricians were doing some work and killed the power to it both times. Really does seem to generate full network traffic bursts/outages for a minute or so until it settles. How often does it happen?

Lightspeed vs Smoothwall

Did anyone see the Cyberoam stand at Bett? The sales patter was certainly very interesting, but the guy openly admitted that they have failed to make themselves known in this country, despite having an 'allegedly' capable and competitive product. I got an email last week from them with a link to this: http://www.cyberoam.com/downloads/Review/PCProReview-CR35iNG.pdf Any thoughts? We've got SW here provided by LA, but still interesting. -
