I believe it is caused when a template created in an old version of Word is then modified by a newer version and then modified by the older version. Something goes wrong with the tags and they become unrecognisable. If the template is recreated in the new version of Word and never edited with an old one we don't see the problem. I think its related to the change of template from binary to XML.

The school report can be found at the bottom of the Reports Menu. It is a very popular report for SMT as it is in effect a live "Raise on line" - loads of stats not only Progress 8. It should be on their "Favourites". You will need to use the Assessment Mapping tool to map your aspects to ours.
-
We have done a lot of work on this - mixing Word versions is heavily implicated. The older versions have binary templates which are not handled properly by the newer versions.
-
The problem is normally associated with having different versions of Word. The older versions use a binary template. Don't mix old and new versions of Word when editing templates.

I'm out and about so can't get to my pc. The release note should point you in the right direction.

The new school report calculates Progress 8 amongst many other things for you. As the DfE refine the rules we'll update the report.

Sorry about my addition to the thread - I miss read yours.

Have you virtualised the server or changed its settings? Most performance issues come down to virtualised servers not giving sufficient resources to SQL.

The very first load of InTouch will take longer as it has to load a different framework however if you swap out the VPN/IIS to the new method using SIMS Services Manager you should see an improvement in load time.
-
Is SOLUS3 slowness a general problem? It has never looked slow when I've seen it demo'd.
-
The SIMS Service Manager is a significant change but there isn't an immediate need to implement it. InTouch will continue to run using a VPN & IIS but it is now possible to avoid these techniques and as a result InTouch will perform faster. Should your VPN go down we would guide you to using SSM. All services will be migrated to the SSM in the future.

The assessments will remain. -
There are still leaves on the trees - it's before Christmas - it's autumn in the UK!

If you have mistyped the connection details you will be blocked until you ask us to free up your IP address. It's part of our attempt to ensure hackers are blocked.

Is it possible that you have a mix of Office versions that are accessing the templates with?

[sims] Printing from an Assessment Defined Group
PhilNeal replied to SouthCoastSaint's topic in MIS Systems
@SouthCoastSaint I've followed this up and sorry you got the wrong answer. The correct procedure wasn't followed at our end. -
Supported since spring 14. Beware of running mixed versions of Office particularly 2003 with later versions as the templates can become corrupted.

Ok that is what the others do. I suspect the LA is having to reduce its expenditure and has decided that it can't afford to go through an expensive tender process.
-
I'm amazed that your LA has been funding your MIS up until now. I can't think of another English LA has done so for many many years.

[sims] Everyone ready for the move to SQL 2012/2014?
PhilNeal replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
We only support 2 versions because of testing. If you take the permutations of Office & SQL that is a huge overhead. -
I've followed this up. Our documentation was incorrect and is being updated. There is no need to delete mark sheets before the embargo. Thanks Nik for drawing ur to our attention.
-
I think you've been given the wrong advice but I can't tell if it's our desk or your support team. There is no way that you should have to delete mark sheets. Please ask your team to raise this directly with me so I can check things out.

Doh! A much better answer.
