We haven't published guidance on virtualised environments as this is a specialism that we don't have in Bedford.
-
I certainly didn't intend to cause offence and I'm sure that many many EduGeek members fully understand how to set up SIMS safely. However there are people out there that are installing SIMS that do not understand the main principles. If any Capita engineers have poorly installed software please raise a complaint and it will be investigated thoroughly and action taken.

@GREED it's much as I said. The ICO has to be very careful not to be definitive as they act as judge in cases of complaints. We had a senior officer at two of our conferences to explore the issue.
-
Sorry we don't have that expertise here in our team - it's very specialised knowledge but the correct allocation of resources can make all the difference in the world to performance.
-
I have had a discussion with a senior ICO policy advisor on this subject.

@forkies a school can keep data for as long as it feels that it has a need. Most heads I come across do not want to destroy old pupil records as they sometimes get asked for references.

An appeal to engineers that are installing SIMS on behalf of schools. A number of cases have come through to our support desk complaining about data protection issues because SIMS has not been installed correctly. In the latest complaint from a head all staff had access to the SIMS folder so they could see BACS files, the census etc. We also get a lot of performance problems reported because someone has virtualised the servers and given insufficient resources to SQL. Please do not assume that you can install SIMS simply by asking a few questions on EduGeek. Thanks

[sims] CAPITA pull Autumn 2014 Release - Why???!!!
PhilNeal replied to tech_guy's topic in MIS Systems
Autumn II is now available to support units for distribution to schools. Full details of what's fixed are on SupportNet -
Not via CSV. Several partners such as Vivo use the third party development kit.
-
You will need to raise a case. The problems referred to in this thread aren't connected to known issues.

It's all patchable if you are using SOLUS3. It is regrettable that things get through but we do put 1000s of hours into testing. -

@MrMatt - sorry I've been out all day. Hopefully Nick's contribution has clarified things. -

A complete list of known issues is on SupportNet. Every issue is patchable by SOLUS3 but there is one issue (B2B scheduled tasks I think) that can't be patched by SOLUS2. Support Units asked us to reissue as they either haven't rolled out S3 or have hardly started rolling out autumn and its easier for them if we re-issue. -
We're investigating further. Apparently Safari 8 has widespread issues affecting lots of sites that use Windows Authentication. It may well be that Apple provide a fix for this.

cheaper but clearly not as good

Please find below the link to the Admissions for Independent Schools handbook (for Autumn 2014): http://simspublications.com/264136/assets/admissionsindependent.pdf Chapter 5 (starting on page 35) discusses (among other things) the import of enquiries from your website using an XML file. The content you requested can be found a little further on, in Understanding the Required Structure of an Enquiry Import File on page 36. Chapter 6 (starting on page 73) discusses the import of applications from your website using an XML file. The content you requested can be found a little further on, in Understanding the Required Structure of an Application Import File on page 36.

It's true that is what MS say but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.

We haven't been able to find a problem in test with IE11 (33,000 pages delivered from our hosted centre today) although we have had a few cases reported. I've asked about Safari 8.
-
I've asked for a pointer - will get back to you.
-
Have you searched the documentation area?

Reflecting on how this rumour may have started. We can't advise on vitalisation from our desk and many performance problems experienced come down to how resources have been allocated. It could be that we've advised schools to go back to their installer to rectify issues.
-
@silver_uk we've been in touch with your support unit to assist them in resolving your issue.
-
Did this get resolved or do you still need some help?
-
There has been no change of policy on this ever! If you are an independent third party you can ring us on behalf of a school that has contracted you for the support. We will insist that you are on site. You can of course interact in your own right with our desk if you pay the team charge which brings other benefits. @pauldredge contrary to popular belief on this forum, SIMS' customer base is at least for now growing. I'm not complacent about this however!
