I had one of those ideas you have in the shower the other day. We don't currently enforce locking of pc but regularly tell people to do it by various methods. We have had a spate of my tech and I coming across pcs not locked and have had a few "confrontations" when we try to tell the culprits. To mitigate the angry feelings I have set up a mailbox called lyp (lock your pc) with an auto reply set up. If we find a pc that we can get to the emails on we send and email to lyp with what pc and what we could get to. This then in turn emails the staff member with a blurb about locking their pc pointing out the implications and links them to our policy. This also means it gets logged too which is nice. Worked well so far. No more arkward conversations being made to feel like we are in the wrong.

For those of you saying SSO is not more secure than having a separate password for SIMS you haven't seen the trick you can do with Task Manager to find the SIMS password obvs. Open a SIMS module like T6, go to Task Man, enable the command line column. Oh looky! There's my password. Most likely for convenience this will be the same as the users network login. Best to have a tight policy on locking screens I would recommend and have SSO BTW megasecurepassword is obviously not my password for anything lol

Same as @Roberto . We use radius auth using Windows nps, Aruba instant and smoothwall. Works a treat. Only for staff, 6th and guests due to lack of classroom policy atm

@Planehazza completely understand where you are coming from with the "do not rock the boat". Perhaps a bit of targeted culling could help. Go to the HODs individually, ask them what they use in their SOWs. Go to the dept meetings and ask directly. I have taken the opposite approach of asking what they do not use. I have asked what they use. All the rest will not be available after the summer so we can go forwards with thin image deployments.] If you are on MS EES or similar licencing I would consider SCCM. It's basically free unless you want to manage servers with it. You can integrate MDT into it too to make awesome task sequences.

What you do is a software audit with departments. Is the piece of software you can't package still being used. Is there an alternative? Software written in the 90s can't be expected to still be used can it? I put my ruthless admin hat on when dealing with stuff like this.

Pretty simple from what I read. The vlans are set up on the switch the server is connected to. So as long as you can trunk the 4 ports you need to have 1 vlan as untagged and all the rest as tagged if you are sharing the trunk with management

This is how I do it so it is possible. Think this is the way most people do it tbh

I have the trunk to each hyper v server with all vlans tagged and the server vlan untagged. That means that each virtual nic is on server van by default unless you specify the vlan on the virtual nic
