Does it say I am annoyed? I am now starting to get annoyed with this thread so I'll leave it for a while! See the difference?
-
Correct! Stating opinions in text cannot ever portray one's feelings unless you actually state those feelings! In discussions with people verbally I can totally disagree with anything without getting annoyed! Maybe 40+ years ago I couldn't but one does learn a little restraint over the decades!
-
Graham, As you know - I could have differences with anybody. I have quite a few with Capita as well. But because I say my piece, both for and against something, then people usual respect my opinion. I know that Capita do! You are obviously aware of the respect that I have for your knowledge and experience as I believe you have for mine! That obviously would not prevent us having differing opinions on certain issues, as these would be based on that mutual respect! Thanks for your support!

I think that you mis-read me! How can anybody detect my emotions in words. I am not annoyed about anything! My son does exactly the same when reading text messgaes on his phone. Words are words and not emotions!

I have been offended many times by posts on this site and nobody (as far as I remember) has ever apologised to me. Just further offence by backing the statements that first caused that offence! And as I have said before. I will never go behind anybody's back. I will post here what I think is necessary. That also has the advantage of encouraging others to do the same! As for huff! I am actually quite controlled in what I say!
-
Thank you to those that have sent me private messages! The owners of this site will also have to get used to my opinions! Whilst ever I have access that is ....... ! I know for a fact that some readers of this site will not contribute as they do not want to get the reactions that I welcome from some of the contributors!

If it had gone out to tender then fair enough. Have all MIS providers been given the option of sponsoring the site?
-
I am not sure the Forums actually do anything for me! I am here to try and do something for the Forums - as explained on many occasions. Hopefully I have had an effect, no matter how small! As for my impartiality (or not!) then check out my last umpteen posts! They have been (in my humble opinion!) very impartial except when somebody has unfairly criticised one particular MIS! So can I take it that the current advertisement was approved on a 'best value' approach i.e. Edugeek advertising went to the bidder who responded with the best offer to the 'tender invitation'? Or is there some insider influence?
-
There can only be one word for this! DISGUSTING So much for the impartiality of these Forums! Roll on the Red Reputation I will no doubt get in the next few weeks/days! Then again, it ain't the first time that parts of this site have had the same effect and, no doubt, it won't be the last! Strangely, I had not noticed the previous Sponsor. So much for the value of advertising! An initial impact but absolutely no good later!
-
I thought that these Forums did not support any particular MIS and that blatant advertising etc was not allowed. So why have the MIS Forums now become sponsored by a company producing a MIS? Maybe they should now put this out to tender and sell out to the highest bidder!

Only Timetabler has Timetable/Options Permissions by default! Why on earth would Teachers have Timetable Permissions? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!
-
I suggest you click the Help button after trying to open options. It will open with functionality greyed out. You need to import the dataset from NT6 for next year to create a new implementation of Options! I don't use Options but I think it only needs to have the band structure in place on the dataset. I also guess that you need Timetabler rights in SysMan to be able to utilise it. There are experts on SupportNet who use this functionality. Up to this year my dataset has contained too many bands/sub-bands for it to work!
-
I would be asking for perfection for that to happen. We don't do bad here but I wish everbody would use SIMS to it's maximum functionality! Yep - I know - that is a Pipe Dream!
-
I regularly use the Documentation in SIMS - usually when new functionality appears and I want to brush up on the best way of doing things. At my rather mature age I do actually forget some things too! What does amaze me is the number of posts that appear on Forums (here and elsewhere) that are asking for advice on procedures in SIMS when it probably takes less time to consult the SIMS Handbooks than it does to post the actual query! Strange ...... I have several home produced manuals that staff can refer to for various procedures. I usually produce these when new functionality appears. Often the go out of date very quickly however.

Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) and Online Reporting
Sivadam replied to NotSoFast's topic in MIS Systems
APP Tracking Grids for AM7 in SIMS will, hopefully, be with us by the Spring Release. See the Roadmap! They won't be lablled as APP tho' just in case that 'name' is removed by the coalition! It's all double guessing at the moment. The same applies to online reporting. My best guess is that it will be supported by the coalition but not enforced and so the 'real-time' issue will disappear anyway!- 23 replies

Well said James. The Field Trial schools have not even started to test it yet. Those jumping to conclusions maybe ought to chill out a little and wait for us to get our hands on the software in a school environment!

It's a pleasure. Do you also follow your kind request to others as per the last line of the post above? (Not that I want any more Green Squares - I much prefer the Red ones!) Update Yes you do! Ta!

One will no doibt be reporting back in the near future on how well Discover works on different machines. I will mainly be testing on my own which does have a separate graphics card - but I will no doubt try it on others with integrated boards etc. All will be revealed in due course!

No he ain't! He is the SIMS person. Profiles is just a tiny bit of the system that I am responsible for ........... !!! In answer to the OP. You can write ANY Profile Report for ANY Pupil, who has ever been in ANY Group, irrespective of when the pupils are moved! The only proviso to this is the start and end date that you have included in the Profiles Session. Check out post 601 in User Posts, File Sharing on SupportNet for further details. Please note that in the example quoted I had set up the Profiles Session for the whole Year. This does not have to be the case if you want to cut down the number of options such as those described and shown. However, you must select dates that will include every possible scenario that needs to be included. As a Timetabler who changes the timetable on a very regular basis I can vouch for how hard that can be. I obviously know when the changes are made but I do not automatically know which stage in a rotation a department wants to report on! Hence I 'play safe' and the department can then make their own choice easily.

Even better with 2010 now that there is a File Tab on the Toolbar. It ain't supported for SIMS til Spring tho'!

Tools, Academic Management, SIMS Offer is the route in SIMS. It was delivered in the Summer Release. (I found some of my old UAT Notes in my briefcase! Just below the half eaten 'sarnie' from last month! Only kidding ........it was the month before!)
-
Am at home now so can't give you the exact route. But I don't think the routine is much use without the webpart! I have heard that the old Options module has been replaced...is this the new version? Colin, no this is not the replacement for Options, it is as Mike has described, a small part of the Options process in SIMS, waiting for the SLG Options web part. We have no current plan to build this.
-
Florence and Pisa was 2 years ago! Sorrento, Capri, Naples etc was last year! Would a Gladiator do instead? Or even a Pope? Yep it is. It's in SIMS but not on the horizon for the SLG yet!
-
Here here!

True .... true .... Then again I was referring to the modules that a 'normal' State Secondary would normally have access to. As for Options - I was going to try it this year as it would probably cope with my sub-bands this time. However, being as it seems that the Options Offer will not make it to SLG then I see little point in moving from my own tried and trusted method developed over decades. If Options Offer did make it, well that would be a different story!
