  1. Check out KB102162 on SupportNet for a full explanation. NT6 and the Lesson Monitor Setup up must match exactly! You will see a separate Reg Group if you access Edit Marks but it should not show on Teacher Timelines.
  2. Maybe you would like to pay a visit and see how much this school uses it's SIMS? We are one of the Partnership Schools and are used to hosting visitors for this purpose. It would be no good coming with a sales hat on though! Undoubtedly I can!! GREED has much more knowledge than I in certain aspects of SIMS - certainly the Technical side of things. I am just a 'mere' User (and, obviously, the SYSMAN!) One of my advantages is that I spend qute a bit of time testing the SIMS Software against our dataset as part of UAT. This gives me a great insight into the new functionality in advance of it's delievery. The school can then be set up and prepared to use that new software the moment it is available! Watch out for the brochure 'Freedom to Focus' coming out from Capitaes next term. There will be a quote in there from Ofsted re. use of assessment data in this school! You might also want to conveniently ignore what it will probably say on the front cover, but it's perfectly true!
  3. I will respect that wish after this one last post, being as you have requested this. I would add that the advice that I and GREED have given re. logging a CR is good advice if you wish Capita to make changes to the SIMS Software. Please accept my apologies for going off topic.
  4. I am afraid that every post that I make that is helpful is mainly ignored (Check a few of the recent ones - no thanks or, in some cases, no response). When I am a little 'controversial' I get plenty of response and then have to explain in simple English that my succinct responses do, in fact, just reflect exactly what the words say! Now, unfortunately, I have to go. We are installing new software from a new Capita partner for Administering Extra-Curricular activiites. (Not to be confused with Alternative Curriculum that I have also been invoolved with testing and will be delivered by the SIMS Spring Update). Most SIMS users, including those here, will probably benefit from this school trialling this software for them - if they decide to use it in the future!
  5. I think that if you check back to my initial response, you will find that I did not use many of the words that you have quoted. I assume that means that I did not say them! Please stop misrepresenting what I have posted in a Forum Thread! What I type is what I mean! Nothing more and nothing less!

  8. Hmmmm.......... Maybe I ought to start throwing a few more bombs into your threads again. I have deliberately kept out of these 'debates' for quite a while! And while we are at it please do not misread my words and replace them with those of your own choosing! We have been down that route before. Misquoting what I say or what 'I meant to say' has caused enough problems on this website! What I say is what I mean - not what you think it means!!! I actually agreed by implying that some people would want it changing! I assume that such people will have raised and/or supported such a change request on SupportNet!
  9. Maybe you should check out a few of my recent posts. I didn't go from 4 (or was it 5?) Red Squares to 1 Green one for nothing!
  10. Unfortunately not. The print-out has suited me for its purpose ever since we started using the Cover7 Module as part of the Field Trial quite a number of years ago. For us it is merely a back stop so that we still have acces to the data if the SIMS Server goes down (or some other such issue). Staff simply do not use it that much. They mainly check their SIMS timeline for the Cover. As for the nuclear war - didn't I notice one of those on these forums a few weeks ago? Everbody knows now that if they drop a misdirected bomb then I'll throw one back! (and keep throwing!)
  11. It's Christmas! I need my Red Squares back before it's too late! That Green one ain't very festive.
  12. Somewhat of a sweeping statement. Maybe it ought to be 'Some people don't.....' This functionality is fairly basic but it does show exactly what it needs to show. In these days, when cover feeds back the the SIMS Homepage and the main cover list is probably the Summary Sheet for the Staff Room and for a couple of offices (not to mention the feed to SLG that is coming soon) is it worth spending time and money on changing this when there are so many new developments that I, for one, would regard as far more worthy of extra input of time and money!? I think that most staff here have actually forgotten that we even publish the Cover in this way!
  13. A new area has been aded to the Reporting Dictionary. This is called Conduct Management and you can use this area when designing Reports. Unfortunately you still don't seem to be able to report across a date range with the standaard report. Have you seen the 'Reporting Challenge (29751)' thread on SupportNet where I refer to the anlaysis reports that I uploaded to the File Sharing area? These may help.
  14. Are you sure that it is not an issue caused by your Broadband Settings etc? We had these sorts of issues when we first installed in October 2008 and it was the Broadband provider that had not enabled things correctly! Once I managed to get them to talk directly to Capita (we were Capita Hosted for SLG at the time) then it was soon sorted!
  15. Most of my frustrations are not caused by SIMS, and it's related products, but mainly by the 'users' that complain about it so much! Apologies to yourself as you seem to have a genuine problem but that is often not the case with some others! The publishing of Reports to SLG is a complicated procedure at first sight. However, once set up it is then extremely easy to use and is also very effective. The main problem is that there are two parts to the process which cross over between two products. It is further complicated by the fact that SLG is now hosted in different ways and any documentation has to apply to everybody whether they are self hosted, Capita hosted or LA hosted. At least one of the threads on SupportNet aptly demonstrates this confusion by some users. A second cause of my frustration re. this particular functionality is that I am still waiting for our LA Hosting Team to get their head around it. This is despite the fact that I have emailed them the documentation that I have, which covers all the process! I actually have a meeting with this team next week to try and help get round some of the issues that I perceive exist with this form of organisation!
  16. In NT6 just find the lesson/class on a timetable. Right click the class and then click Add Room. You can add as many rooms as you wish to! I have an instance on the timetable where one member of staff is attached to two classes and three rooms! (Don't ask!!)
  17. It may not help with your particular issue but have you been following the discussions on SupportNet?
  18. Have you applied the Licence Patch (14921) to SIMS v7.136?
  19. We use AM7 Individual Reports for sending out data 4 times a year. We also use Profiles7 Reports for the more detailed report that is sent out once per year! I would recommend Profiles to any school but you need to understand it thoroughly before you actually launch it for general use!
  20. Is the error code: 4366-6512-2000 ? If so then it it is resolved by the Autumn 2010 SIMS.net Upgrade.
  21. 'Fraid that ain't anything I can help with. Good Luck whatever you decide to do.
  22. No. The alternative is to have specified Registration Periods as part of your school day! However, by not having Lesson Monitor and not using the Achievment/Behaviour/Report Card links etc. etc. then your SIMS is not being used as effectively as it could be.
  23. AM & PM Sessions in 'Attendance' have nothing to do with NT6. They are picked up from the Pastoral Management system. I assume that you have the Groups, Pupils and Staff set up correctly in Pastoral Management? If so then the Reg Group Tutors should be able to mark their Groups' Registers (but not via lessons!). These Staff would also need Registration Group Tutor permissions.
  24. Teachers logging in to SIMS .net for secondary schools which do not possess a Lesson Monitor will see only lessons on their Homepage timeline. By going in to:- Focus, Attendance, Take Register the teacher will then be able to see only their AM and PM sessions on the timeline. The user is also able to right click on the Homepage timeline and select 'Take Register' to take their AM and PM session registers. 'Attendance Only users' cannot take the session register within a lesson electronically through Take Register. The electronic recording of Attendance marks using lesson periods is only available through Lesson Monitor.
  25. Our SIMS Direct Licensing/Support costs were cheaper (though not vastly so!) last year than what our LA would have charged. I have not yet got our quote for next year but I am guessing that the same will be true! Sheffield is a big LA with only a handful of schools not on SIMS!
