I have built a PC with a 160gb HDD I then used Partition Magic to make the C: drive 20 GB and deleted the D: drive.. When I try to Ghostgast this onto a 80GB Laptop it says it's gonna take 132 hours? (only i ghost option 152 GB disk) (and its on the same gig switch) I then try to Local Partition to Image for the C: to Image to the D: ( reactivated D:) but it won't highlight the C; patition as the source.. Any ideas on the best way forward

The best bet for your dads shop if he is on a budget is a PTZ wireless Camera system.. These camera's will go back to a DVR and you can contol them from the TV... Easy and simple... Or as someone said.. you can pay a ortune.. Or school has just spent £250 000.00 on CCTV .. and it's not an IP system.. nor is it a stand alone system :-)

I don't think there is a LA Support payscale that goes up to £28 - £35k which is what most ICT Managers Earn ..

Doesn't really answer much does it.... Still the same scenario...... and this is not good news IF you are CONSIDERED for TUPE ?!?! means no real job security. They say that there is no contract termination..... but you didn't ask about retrenchments due to economics as the DTI says that Tuped staff can be pruned... The idea of Managed Solutions is to save money by getting some of the support into RM's remote support Department.. so why would they need all the Staff to be TUPED if a lot of the needed support areas are no longer on site. ?? And they are going to keep a £28k per year Netwotk Manager ?!?!... yea right.. As for innovations.. if there are only Support Drones left on site who is going to lead the ICT Innovation ? So RM really don't have to worry about innovations so their answer is meaningless Looks like all RM Contracts will be using CC3 You didn't ask about the SLA, Legacy Equipment, or grill them about server support... You also did not press them on the School staff that were not TUPED... were they working still in ICT support or were they put into other positions ? From what I have witnessed within the BSF myself ...... is that the LA bring their own ICT Consultants in to the school to advise the school and lead the tendering process.. then reporting ONLY to the Head and the Project Board... So a Technician really has no input on which way the school is going and the Network Manager generally gets sidelined as they might have different ideas to the new LA/School ICT uber Consultants … which they don’t want…... The problem here as I see it is that people believe that they will have some say or input when the BSF starts.. When it starts you might get to the first couple of meetings.... those are the ones where they decide on which ICT consulting company they are going to use and what is the schools vision of the future.. Then the big boys like SOCITM come in to spend the Million Pounds…… and Then it runs like a out of control juggernaut……… PS.. And you did not ask about what roles the staff that stayed at the school were given..

So basically you are just accepting their word that they are not letting others look as the SIMS data, or downloading it for their new job ?

Our School rfuses to let any staff have remote access to the School Servers or Email..... There is far to much risk... I mean during school hours we have problems with Students getting hold of staff passwords, and / or trying to hack the staff passwords.... Imagine what would happen if they could do it from home... Also there are issues of staff downloading masses of files from the shared drive.. I have often told staff "no we cannot copy your entire departmental Folder onto DVD".... Imagine what they could do from home.. as access to the staff shared is a basic start for remote access.. So No Access from Outside...

Any student Mobile Phone, MP3 player, Hat, Hoodie, Camera is confiscated on sight. No-one (Staff, Teachers, Students, Visitors) are allowed to take pictures onsite unless authorised by the Head Teacher... Anyone that is caught taking pictures is detained by Non Classroom Based Teaching Assistants and their cameras or phones purged... Anyone taking pictures from off of the site are detained until the Police are called. End Of.... :-)

Thats what one of our Schools said at the start to keep their fantastic ICT manager and ICT staff in-house.. Untill they relised they would lose £1.5 million in ICT funding.... They quickly jumped on board the BSF/PFI ship..

I get paid a set wage per month and the hours worked are 37.5 per week with an hour unpaid lunch per day... I can get paid for lunch if I do duty...... I normally end up working around 40 - 45 hours a week for the same wage anyway...

Not true... Build a box, Install server 2003, Add to domain, make member server, install SQL 2005 and install SIMS.. Remember that you ahev to Map a drive on the client machines to the SIMS folder on the server... We have M: Mapped to \\server1\sims\

Have gone through the BSF process ? And then been TUPEd and sacked by the new Overlords ? . I was lucky and was kept on in another role..... But the 3 other schools around us the Network Managers left because they did not want to be downgraded to Technicians and were furious at losing their Networks that they had built and maintained.. as well as losing all control of the Network and doing anything intrestingly Technical.... No more writing funky VB Scripts..... No more working to get the "damn" server back up..... They assisted in the BSF at the beginning but the facts that they had no "real" future in the finished Total Managed Service Product upset them and they decided they would go elsewhere.. Fact... No matter what anyone says ALL the Servers will be out of any on site technicans control they will be out of bounds execpt for remote. Are you saying here that everybody might not be TUPED ?

We used to have multi school ICT Managers meetings... and when the BSF came up we were told adapt or move on..... as our positions would become redundant under the BSF rules.. I am not talking about the Newcastle In-House bid as that is basically RM under a different name.. all the staff were TUPED to Newcastle..... What I am suggesting is that each school keep it's own structure.. I suggest that there be a BSF template that the ICT must conform to and all the schools in the LA agree to this set of standards.. But the bottom line is that the Schools run themselves and buy thier own equiptment..this will save millions on the BSF model Take for instance the Computers for Pupils Scheme... We were forced to buy from the LA "chosen" Company who where more expensive then my supplier.. I raised that we could by 10 more laptops of the same specs from my supplier at the same price from the chosen one .. I was told you have to buy from the chosen one.... this is gross misapproation of Public funds and the chosen one must have been laughing all the way to the bank...
