Hi All I am back from the dead. Well just it has been a while but i will be posting a bit more now that i am feeling a bit better. I have been popping in every so often but not that often but I hope to return to my old posting self. So its a big hi to all the old friend and the new ones I hope to make.

The big issue for us is the fact our staff need to change proxys not just switch it on and off they can do that by clicking the box but to change proxys is a diffrent matter as they struggle to rember the name of them and also the fact the need to be pointed to a website to log in if they select the staff proxy (is an rm thing)

I am using it in anger (lol) in one primary school and 2 bisnesses and aslo at home as a firewall gateway mail filter fileserver and is runs like a dream it too 20 mins to install and setup and it talks to my 2003 server I did have a issue with it talking to vista and running a bat file at loging but there is a fix for that now. there are continuing to update it as well and fourm support is really good and as long as you have done a search and not found nothing they will help or point you in the right direction. It is installed first ubuntu 8.10 and then installes the ebox packeges and only the ones that you need. I love it as you have got really good control of users and groups via the admin panel so you can tie share permisions down to a user. I would say if you got a old machine install it and have a play I have it installed on a 9 year old dell server and it runs fine.

Since this was last posted Ebox has bee updated and is now a awsome piece of kit it includes active dir intergration dansguardian squid spam assin Asterisk EGroupware Jabberd2 Postfix Samba Clamav P3Scan to mention a few look here for more Document/Documentation/Software It is very easy to setup and maintain and you can setup users and groups very easy. uses ubuntu as a base so is very stable. The possabilitys are endless one of the best bits are the egroupware and the OpenVPN have a look have a play works like a dream.

If it just switches the proxy on and off there is already loads out there that do that one that was done on the website many years ago the problem is switching proxys on the fly IE from proxy.school.net to proxy.staff.net as in windows vista and 7 you ned a restart for the change to take affect if you are doing it via a registry input.

Ok I know I have been away for a while and have popped in on once or twice but i have found the answer to my dreams. I need to check a few things but it seems to be ok for schools licencing It is based on ubuntu and so is very simple to set up. EBOX eBox Platform I have it running at the moment as 1. a pdc(dhcp and dns) 2. egroupware which includes mail polls wiki calander timesheet knowlagebase for trouble shooting resourses and much more. 3 a transparent filterproxy and fire wall 4. file server 5 vpn server 6. internal jabber server 7. spam filter 8. user/group manager. 9. lots lots more what i liked about it was it took me 1hour to set the lot up for 50 students as a test platform and I love it and if it proves its worth i might ditch the widows boxes and transfer all to this box I love it its simple easy to set up free as far as I can see I will try ad set up a demo site for people to have a look but I would like to know if anyone uses it has used it or is considering it as i am but dont want to feel alone. its the easyest linix i ever set up

Hi this will be a very sorry and good bye due to extreem bad health being bed ridden and in and out of hospital every 2 mins I have had to priotise my life. I have enjoyed the run but life is short and i must make the most of my time. I hope to pop in once in a while but dont know how often. Good luck everyone with all that you do. And as I have been saying to myself for a while now dont let life get you down make the most of what you have got because you dont know how long you will have it for

Just to let you know I have not forgotten about the package I have just been rushed off my feet with sorting out a new server. Also my home pc has broken down. Hope to have it with us soon.

Just to let you know this is not gone forever just until I have put together a total gpl package with no paid for packages within I hope to have something within the next couple of weeks.

editing moduls useing any editer will not always work as it can wrap it you need to click the html button but that does not alway work your best bet is to goto the joomla website and create a custom module. Also can i ask where you got the template from.

hi there there is a better way joomlapack is a free backup modual that will backup and it is simple to use. Also if it all does go wrong it includes an installer so all you do is upload it unpack and install. joomlapack JoomlaPack I hope to be including this in the next version. There is also aautoupdate in developement where you goto an address ie "www.schoolnam.sch.uk/backup" and it will start a backup. I have not used this feature yet but will lookinto it for future.

Ok don't get confused I you have downloaded It you can update from the Joomla website and it is really easy. We are not looking to stop it altogether but there are some good alternatives and this is what i am looking into at the moment. The problem is due to the fact I cant control who downloads it the way it was and the package was being abused for monetary gain which is not the reason we done this so that people can make hundreds of pounds from it. I you are using it that is not a problem as you can update it yourself and it is very easy to do so. I will write a how to today on updating the package but there are a few out there already. This is not something I have taken lightly and not something i wanted to do but i have had to.

They say thing come in 3s but at the moment its not stopping. After a hard week of updating joomla package and testing it I recived some emails asking me to pay to install the package that sysman created and I updated and wanted £500 to do it. As well as that got a couple of other emails telling me that I can use there package for comurtial gain and I needed to remove them I know feel like crap. Ok so thats that sorted next to relax at home with laptop (brand new) and oh dear what a bugger the harddrive has just died and then my home server has now also decided to play up now to the xbox to get rid of all that frustration oh yes forgot its away getting the cd drive replaced. What else can happen bring it on it cant get much worst

just to bump this thread and so people know there are no hacks or abnormal moduls in this package so you can update the package with joomla goto there website joomla.org and download the patch do a backup of your site first and then just copy over the top if you select the correct patch ie 1.5.4-1.5.6 for example you will not have to delete the install folder. and on this matter please insure you delete the instal folder as renaming is a major secuarty risk as all some will need to do is randam addressing ie "www.wesite/instalationold/index.php" and this will bust the installthere is a bit more to it than that but just renaming is a very bad idea

ok Just to comferm the templates we use are based on other templates and the only thing that has changed are colours a few modules and some of the layout. Also not being funny where has he got the list from and why them tecnologys as xhtml look here http://docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:More_advanced_Joomla!_templates and css2 is same as css1 but more functions. and as for oda law we try our best there are plugins to enlarge text and most good web readers will not have a problem with joomla. ODA law is a very strange as if you want to understand what you need to do to conform to it good luck as it changes nearly every month but basicly people with disability who use the internet have programmes on there pcs to help the IE readers and with ours as it changes colour (you can modify the colurs to your liking ) you should not have a problem and I know of 2 schools that use joomla with a web reader with no problem.

I do like the look of The official JoomlaFCK editor it seems really good an people can pay into updates and fixes. also in the new version have already added rokslideshow and other stuff as have found it really good and for free. Also have had conformation today that joomla 1.6 will have a better acl and control function but times on this are not availible but i am on mailing list as i am on dev fourm.

The modules paid for are jce as the plus part is installed so that media can be manlipulated jce without the plus bit is not really worth having. also the banner is paid for that can be replaced I just have to be really careful as there is a lot changing in the joomla camp with the gnu and how joomla is used. I am going to have a talk with site admins and other developers and see what the best way ahead is but i am still happy to help people and if they need a new version please email me with there school addy and i will send a temp link to them It might take some time but i hope to sort this issue. also looking at login emails that have downloaded and website they maintain so if you dont mind attaching the website you maintain i would be much appreciated. This will not start this until I have talked it over with the admins.

The problem the modules in this package canot be used for comercial gain and that is what some people are doing at the moment they even tried to charge me to install my own product.

As some of you may have seen i have removed the link to the package 1.5 I am getting more and more annoyed. History The package was originally designed and built by sysman and a very good package which i still use in some of my schools. I decided that as 1.5 came out and makes good use new web technologies that i would move the package over with the permission of sysman and he said it was ok. Updated I have change some of the modules updated the css and the templates most of which are free. I managed to get a couple of paid for packages in the mix as well but with the agreement that it would be used for none profit and schools and I agreed. Now here comes the crunch I have received an email telling me that i have to remove the paid for modules as people are downloading are package and charging for it. The most expensive is £500 which one of my schools got an email for this package and I got asked to look at it and found it was our own 1.5 without the edugeek tag but a nice cost tag. I believe i have a few options. 1. remove the package give joomla support only. 2. people email me and i will give them a temp link when clarified being used for school or non profit. 3. leave it as it is with basic and no modules. 4. zip with password that will be give on request from member and checked applicable. None of this I want to do but my hand has been forced. If anyone else has any ideas please post as i have just written a letter of apology to the people who make the modules and they have told me that they understand our problem but I dont know what to do next to protect not just ourselves but people and companies who have also helped. I am sorry it has come to this but i dont know what else to do as I could face legal action if it continues and I dont do nothing.

there is you can create a blank page with a standered page and disable the frount page totally there are lots of ways of doing it.

ok the problem is not a coding in fact it is not a problem it is a plugin and needs to be set up to how you want it and that can be done from admin login and it is under extension and plugin manager. you need to open system joomlaSEO and set it to waht you wish to be displayed I have done it this way but is not hard to change any problems get back to me.

I have been feeling better and am getting back to my old self as far as possable. I hope to have new joomla package posted soon and have some nice new packages. Also looking into a joomla moodle so they are one to go alongeside the edugeek moodle package. I have just got to talk to the project manage but I wonder how much time it will take.

if you could explane and if you have a screeshot it would help. Also If you are not answered right away please be patient as the only time i get to come on the fourms is mostly in the evening if i am well enough. some times it may take a couple of days so please bare with me but i will answer all questions asap.

to update download this http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/8375/31008/Joomla_1.5.3_to_1.5.7-Stable-Patch_Package.zip and then ftp it on top of what you got replacing old files. jobe done.
