how would you make rdp more secure then as it seems to be the most friendly one if i use a windows machine at home and is it possble to rdp to the server nd then rdp to the clients on the domain as the problem is i have not got terminal servs running at the moment so if i want to log onto another pc i need to know its name i cant browse to it.

Ok i have a question and i need to find a answer. Unlike some of you i am a part time tech in a school. I have got the gateway setup for access all i need to do is dicide what to use. I have used remote desktop and it works fine with a few issues but i have been told that rdc is not as good as vnc. As i am part time i need this type of access to sort out issues when i get the phone call (help i cant log in ect.) the problem i i dont run termial services so unless i know the name of the machine i cant access it (might be better to install termal services) any idears please . also i only have a port to the sever so if i rdc to the server can i rdc to a network machine. Any idears would be helpful please. This is somthing i have not done befor as i am usually sat in front of the machine or just access one machine onsite. any one with any experice please tell me best options.

i love aup we have not got one at the moment but i have put one in place and have upset a lot of people but i have got some backing.

could you not put a timed share on it ie set it so the share stops at midnight and then as soon as you do the update the following morning put it on or if you are going to pull the plug send a network msg giving the 5 mins so if they are doing something it gives them time and if someone logs in tells them not to try nothing

i know if it is a flash image you can right clik to zoom in and out and can also move drag the picture around while it is zoomed i know there is a way to create click buttons but i will have to dig the books out to find out how it has been a while since i touched flash but like i said if you have not disabled the user menu they can right click and do it. i hopr this helps.

just as a word on this i have just joined a union i have never been in one befor but working in the enviroment we are in someone i know was in the same postion he said that it was the best thin he did. When he explaned what was happening to his rep they helped him out. I also know someone who got accused of assult of a student as well because he told her not to bash the keyboard with the mouse. He ws supported and case dropped as she was caught on camera bashing herself befor reporting it. They seem to help in many ways might be able to help you here if it gets too bad.

we have a redirected desktop for each class with a shortcut on the desktop redirection to a folder the teacher has access to and she puts faverates and work in this folder and it works really well al the little darlings have read only access so they cannot delete any favs.

I have had some problems in the past with local profiles and .ost / .pst files becoming corrupt i was told the best way to stop this happing if you are not logging onto the same pc all the time is to use a roming profile dont know how true this is here are the instructions to repair the said files microsofts Repair an .ost or .pst file in Outlook hope this helps there may aslo be some good info here to help microsoft OST and PST Quick Reference

what account are you using to login when using outlok as if it is a .man account or a non roaming account and you log onto diffrent machines it will not keep the data as i beleve this data is stored in your profile i think but i am sure people will correct me if i am wrong. i have a roaming profile and it works fine but when i have tried it with a local profile it loses it if i log onto a new machine.

we had one and it is broke already as one of the kid lowered the board and were hanning off the arm it is all fixed now the projector is the best thing ever as there is no buttons. but we only had it on trial and its gone back now we got the fixed boards they are a lot better i think and cheaper.

the problem is not so much the profile but the my documents folder and as the profile is deleted they lose the login profile thats the reason i created a local user for them so they could log in with no profile on th pc. the problem seems to be the my docs folder. i will look at what you said thank you any more ideas i will try anything.

this is my first post but i have a litte problem. Lots of large profiles on machines and teachers not getting there profile when they move. The first thing i have done is created a roming profile for the staff. the problem i have is that at the moment there profile syncs to the server ever time they log on and off which causes heavy loads. what i want to be able to do is create direct access using there domain login while using the domain but on there laptops create a local user which when they bring the laptop and plug it in in the mornig it syncs with there domain user my docs folder and befor they shut down it syncs as then i can cut down on the number of syncs also so it syncs. each teacher has there own machine so a local user setup is not a problem. this way i will cut down the number of syncs and also i can set the gpo to delete profile on logoff. any help would be grateful.
