i was talking to my partner and she told me it is exctly what happenes was not called bsf but when i told her about it she said it what they did with nhs ict and all the other departments ect ect and she told me they had nothing but problems and in the end the changed it all back to what it was befor but not befor having ie intergration of depatments. it the goverments wayf trying to save money and it keeps proving again and again it does not work why do the not listen.

i found one monday a person came up to ma and asked be why the cable i had given them would not plug into the home network port after looking into it found out the were trying to plug rj45 into a telephone socket thinking they would get onto the school network but it wold not fit.i said they would have to contact bt and get broardband he then told me they had it but it never works then i asked about filters and modem and they told me they did not have one but there phone line keeps playng up. ( after laughing for 3 hours i helped them set it up)

as far as i can find out tht is a it suit not a classroom but i will find out when i visit but the school is one of the oldest in the uk but looks the most modern the outside dont lok nothing like the inside. as for the password thing y2 and 3 have set passord and year 4 above 5 char y5 above 6 char y6 above 6 with numbers and letters ( wont let me force them to do complex) but like i try and tell people comple is not hard just use s=$or 5 i=!or1 o=0 b=8or6 e=£ a=& and then just make a word ie simons =$iM0N or 5!m0N know is not that compex but it is within the rules and the teachers find it easy to remember. dont know how hard they are to crack but i think its ok for schools.

well i am hoping to give the school a visit in the between new year ant bett i will get a good lok at how it was done ect and if anyone is intrsted i will get som pics how it was done and post it here if people want and they agree to it. it would be good to find out.

lol must be your firefox it wors ok with mine but i know what you are saying about logins it is one of my biggest bugbares teachers telling me they dont need them they take to long for kids to use them but i have spoke to the head and agreed that it mus be implomented but i am still having some unhappy people. but like i say to them it is the future and we must change the kids are and they are learning ict quicker than some of the teachers. thats when it gets scary. and we are talking 5 years and up. my son is 5 and he has his own account at home has got a password and it takes him 20 seconds to log on and that in not somthing i have taught him hi has just watched a learned. he can also google and he love it because if he spells it wrong it helps him. he told me the other day he wanted to change his password because his sister knows it and she is 4.

all i can say about fat cat companys is they get fatter under cut everyone one the contract fill all the right pockets(the share holders and people in high places) then when they have got it you tend to get lack of support substandard equipment. and things in the contract that noone relised were there.One of the best ones i heard was not in a school but a ft cat company got the contract got paid the money but 2 years down the road they found out they had used all there free call outs and the price they had to pay for more call outs was silly but they had to use that company or they would have been in breach of contract.

as a tech in a primary school this looks like a total nightmare but i will give them a ring in the new term like you said looks like the bar being raised and the problem we have is we need to get people into our schools as people can now choose what school they put there child into if schools fall behind they will get less of a intake so they get less money and then you are on a downward fall and when you are down its hard to get back up. one of the biggest things is that less people are having babys which means less children. looks like we have all got to get ahead of the bar.( i know it is worse for secondry schools as it is a totally different enviroment. i have done work in a secondry and now work in a primary and the diffrence is a lot but the gap need to be closed. ie teach them the correct way in a primary they will not have such a shock in a secondry.( like introducing passwords for users and making them more complex as they get older so when they do get to a secondary school they wont keep forgetting. thats only one point there are loads.

was watching the news tonight and saw this school it looks way ahead in ict broadclyst school working i a primary myself this looks like way into the future i do like the look of it what do you think and if you are a tech there is there a chance of a visit. looks really good.

lol i had the same problem ?? spoke to them have been told not to use usb it is not the best way as it can cause errors as i found out also if it not shutting your machine down it mght be due to a basic programme running and you may need to create a script to shut this programme down first befor it will let it shut down your server.

well he might be brave but he can use this as a two way thing find out our problems and sort them or find the answer. he is not brave just seems to want to help and promote the product and he will in return get ideas from us and feed them back. keep up the good work nice to see new faces people trying to help is always good.

ok i got it all installed ok i have jus re imaged some new machines ( had problems installing client did not know it need .net framework to work and xp dont come with it) but the one problem i have got is it is not detecting users now i have got no errors comming up but they are on wireless laptops i did not know if anyone has seen this issue befor??

i hope it is ok to post this here i have just reimaged a few machines and installed the client but i keep getting this error i think it is to do with active x being blocked it works on all the other pcs its just the ones i have just imaged andyone got any idears would be really good please

i used to use eclipse there were one of the best then i went off them when they started all this flex stuff and they got expencive. but there con rate used to be 20:1 i dont know what it is now.

it seems that way as long as you are not shareing with the outside world also you could recode dvd as divx and not have to worry about paying for codecs for all the machines.

i got the DG834G and i have had nothing but problems with it locks out drops conection have had to do 5 firmware updates on it since i got it and if you have more than two pcs on it we lose wireless connections am lookinf at getting a linksys myself hopping its better.

try to limit the size of the profile this will stop people saving to the desktop i use about 3000k even that is a bit big also redirect my docs via gpo and at home folder in ad is if you want to alocate a letter ie h but in the box after it should have \\servername\docs share\%username%\My Documents or somthing like that if you look in the wiki its got a better discription.( i can do it but not good at explaning)

i do all our pat testing its cost less for te school the pay me for doing it but other wise they get charged at 1.50 a item just got te school to buy a tester and calabrete it cost 800 pounds but in the long run it will pay for its self the say in two years they would have got there money back and as a pat tester that ia all you do if it fails it is not your job to fix it you just put the failed sticker on and give them a report. the course is not that hard it is basic on ours we had someone who knoew nothing about eletrics and still passed its more about being sensible it is very a very simple course.

i like that idea what i have done is created a account with one shortcut and this is ie in kiosk mode and to the site they need all other shortcuts are removed so if the do shut it down it opens at the site again when shortcut is clicked. got to test it some more tomorrow

ive got a redirected desktop and a man profile then even if they do change it bingo log back on and its still the same also the have only got read access to the desktop share stops them adding on things they also share the same profile so if i need to make a change i change profile from man to dat log on as test account for that class profile make change log off change profile back to man and its all set to go again.

ok i got a question i need to create a login that does nothing on it thats the easy bit i can do that but what i do need is a way that when it is logged into it opens a browser goes to one website with no access to address bar or buttons i hope you can help it just i have stopped teachers logging on students to more than one machine and they wont do it. so n breif best way to create a locked down account which opens a website with no toolbars and take away the ability to readd the toolbars. just for intrest this is for new online testing they have got to be pre logged in as they log into the tests. It would be even better to take away the ability to close the brouser as well.
