i know the fire thing is a big one being a x forces member try wireing a pc network on a submarine with a nuclear bit in the middle lol thats really good fun espicially when you get a break lol not fun. the regs for that are mad i know the iet are starting to bring out regs but have not got it altogether yet but i can see the doing what they have done with eletrics ie having to be certified

if you have internet a lot of them will give you a free site. i know you do if you are with swgfl also bt isdn do as well

these dont seem like forced regs more like standards (ie if you dont do it that way you dont go to prison or get fined hundreds of lovley pounds?? quote me if i am wrong.

i had another thought i dont know if it can be done but i am sure i have seen it somewhere that you can set a gpo that if loses network it loggs off i am sure it is a script but i will have to find out.

the only regs with the network is the fire ones i cant find no more on them the rest are guidelines on network instulation. when it come to eletric its a diffrent matter but all the regs and everything can be found here http://www.theiet.org/ the new name for iee but there are starting to do tecnolgy regs as well

wow has anyone seen office 2007 got a look at the beta 2 it is good better and it is the first time i would say its worth updating to it has actually changed advanced fetures are not hidden and are simple to use also the outlook attchement preveiw feature is really good. looks like they have at last got there S$££ int one sock when it comes to office but i will have to see the final relise first.

the reg i know have just changed when it comes to eletrics i know it is somthing i wanted to do and to become self certefied it cost around £800 a year plus certifacates which are around £25 each and it takes around 2 years to get self certified its called part p and even bisnessis not excempt. unless you are changing same for same then there is no need but for new installs you have got to comply. There are ways around it but its not cheap ie draw plans get permision £25 and then get it inspected after befor use £lots depending what you have done as they have to do a full inspection. this has only been in force about 2 years or less but just be really careful it one of the reasons i never went into eletrics i can do it but to much legal stuff now. I just stick with my pat testing now its easer.

also set the local gpo to proxy then even if the do get to the local profile they will be forced to use the set proxy. If not do what i did and set the local profile proxy to stop and port to 0 and then they will have no internet access.(lol) if i rember righty a friend in a business set a sever iis and then set up a site and if someone tried to access the web via a local profile it bought up a error on event log so he also found out who it was so after finding out how the did it he told the boss got them sacked. will try find out how he did it if you like.

lol talking of pat testing thats my second job in the school so i dnt get charged for geting it done as i do it myself lol. and the course is only £75 but the machine is £800 and £40 for calabration but they decided it was cheaper the getting charged £1.50 per item desktop = 2 items kettle lead and box. if you got 100 pc thats £300 pounds thats not includind screen if that uses a kettle lead thats another £3 so for 100 pcs on av its about £600 per year thats why i do it myself now lol

i find swgfl good in the way it works the only problem i have had is the responce time to a router issue which took nearly 1 wk but filterd email is really good and music downloads also a site called infomapper.com which is free to swgfl is gogle earth plus it has os maps historic maps world maps and you can overlay the lot so i cant moan. Its the extra services that make it worth it.

i change the secuarty and create a group called sayoffice and only deploy to pcs in this group this why i can test the software deployment befory adding all the other pcs to the group also helps me with licences as all i do is count the number of pcs in the deployment group and set the share for that group only. i think it is a bit more secure way of deployment and takes a bit longer but i think it is worth it.

i have just installed limit login from the microsoft web site it seems to work really well can also se a display time to say what machines logged into also logs it in the event log seems to work really well.

we have still got 3 bbc B machines and were still being used up till last year and have still got them in the school have also got some lovely bits to go with it like a turtle. not used no more we are going into the future lol

we have a rm service called swgfl they deal with ll of that for us so i cant be any help our ip address is not a puplic one.

wee as far as i can see any student who reads it will not get any bad info. and all anybody talks about is how to protect and make there system better. To be honest some students have some really good idears and what we have got to rember is that when we all retire schools need people to replace us and the students comming on he might be one of them. and passing things on is a good thing. Also if they fell welcome when they find a problem they might tell you so you can fix it of tell you how to fix it as they seen the answer here. rather than trying to exploit it. I think its a good idea to let them on. (if you dont they think you have soming to hide and then try getting here by the wrong means EG by lieing hacking and doing nasty things to the hosting server.) make them feel wecome show them the right way and if they like it they stay if they get bored they leave. As far as i can see if it of a delacate nature then ask for someone who is good at that area and then pm them.

i have found this and many more about it wsus ie 7 probs i did conact microsoft myself yesterday and they confermed they hope to have it sorted by the end of the november but it cant be sure.

this is the second time first was relice on 1st nov and the second on the 21st nov have contacted them and they have a issue with pusshing out at the moment you ned to log onto everymachine to install they are trying to sort this issue befor next week.(so they say)

i had this problem it seem the sp1 for the wsus does not like 8530 i reinstalled it using port 80 and it works fine now dont know what caused it contacted microsoft about it and they told me to put it on 80 and see if it work and it did. but they would not tell me why.

will the mod one not run once this is what i want the one i have runs every time they log in which is the problem i have as people are getting fed up of the same message when they log in 3 or 4 time a day

ok this is one i used to know but i cant rember how i did it i have been asked to create a daily login message for the staff. can do a login script but i dont what it to keep sending it i only what it to disply once a day has anyone any idears.

not allowed its a lea thing i beleve all sw schools have got be be on swgfl. Its not that it is a bad thing it is fast very fast and reletive cheap its just getting more confusing.

i was also told about racial activity and if they see any that will also be reported to the police unless you tell them that a class is doing a project on it sounds good but when will a teacher tell you what they are doing.

this is right thay have just changed there filtering policy sorry i have taken so long to get back had personal problems. i seem to have solved it i have had to install wsus and set that proxy as the update one and everyone else stays on the filtered proxy noone has unfiltered access. the other thing that has changed i have heard is the fact that swgfl now does not inform school of illegal activity it goes straight to the policethe first we know is when the police knock on the school do but what i cant find out is what they class as illegal.
