i have found the same problem it only does it if i log in as admin and if i let the cmd promt to restart it it does not work i have to restart as admin. i can gpupdate /force as much as i like it dont work unless i restart as admin.

we do not allow local admin rights 1 so they cant install software on the local pc when i started had on pc with 6 ie toolbars and was dragging down the whole network and the second reason we had someone who had stored all there stuff on laptop and harddrive broke all work lost. That why they have roaming profiles on laptops also if you have roaming profile if network does go down they can still work and it will sinc when the netwok come back so that is not a arguement. one thing i have done for two members of staff is set there admin folder to sync so they if we do lose network they sill have access to this folder.

has anyone had a play with it if so what is it like and is it any good ie does it do the job i need to do something says i can lock search provider in ie7 any coment please tel me if anyone wants a looksee its here IEAK 7

i have not been on these forums for a bit i have been busy trying to do a course but now thats finished and i am back. while on my course we had new pc's 5 of them bought in and we had to help set them up one morning all was going well. then we tried to connect the printer it did not reconise it.printers brand new. them we had some other stuff we had to install from a usb stick again not reconised. after 3 hours we gave up and went back to the old ones after dinner the tutor told us that vista has sdome major issues with usb. has anyone heard of this finished the course now but still in touch with the tutor. he wondered if it was just him.

just a quick one on bulling and hotmail and this is law and why we now block hotmail. we log everything via swgfl and a while ago a friend of mine daughter was getting bullyed at school. emails via hotmail. and police were involved. after checking headers ect ect of the email it was found that the email was sent during school time and from the school ip ( its then schools problem) it had to be investagated by the school as the hotmail addy in question was created in the school for the purpus of bullying. schools bulling policy met that it was liable. since this issue the school no longer allows hotmail yahoo or other webbased mail and has put them all back on block and students do have internal email and external email. as each email is lined to a student if and sent from in school it can be traced back to the student in question. tyhey can recive emails externaly but the are filtered. bulling just because its not using you system its still school proplem if sent during school time. (by the way i was suprised myself with the content on some of the emails that said student had recived ie i am going to fing and geffing kill you) i know this is extream but kids do it.

wow that was simple all set up now have internal email website and it works well have even put some media on it for teachers to use better than them loseing the oiganals ( have asked and got written pomisstion so am covered by copywright as long as noone from outside the school has access to the internal site.

in the end i have created a new forward looking zone called webname.com in there i have created hoasts www ftp pop3 smtp and they all point to the webserver ip and it works a dream dont know if theis is the corect way to do it i have also created sub domans in there ie staff and students and they have there own site i have yet to test it out and because it does not leave the school i have made sure the name does not exist on the web. ( i may even regester it )

on the same subject if i want to create a website ie school.com i know how to create it on the web server do i just create a new dns host pointing to the same ip in my local zone or do i just add the web server as another dns server

i have just found the problem ?? ad its why i have been strugling for so long when the server was set up dns points to the external dns servers but does not point to itself so it does not see the .local network. i have added the extra dns in ie poins back to its self and it works fine now. lol always the simple ones we miss.

in dns it is sb-local-web in the sbserner.local zone do i need to pont dhcp to the linux server as a dns server

i have rergesterd it on dns the problem i have is fqdn ie the severs name is School-web.swgfl.area.sch.uk my server being the school web and for some reasone it took this from dhcp and it will not be going external so have set it up as a standalone. on the same thing i am using isp config is that any good

ok i have just set up a ubuntu server on my network not being used as nothing but a web server for internal use with media ect ect on it but i have a little problem i have given it a static ip say for example 192.168.1.100 no this is the problem wen typing in a web browser say http://test.server it cant find it but if i type 192.168.1.100 it works i have added ip and name to dns but still no joy any idears please.

thats exalty what i want to do and i only have one server running 2003 i do have vm installed i want to transfer to 2003 without upgade option as i feel that if you do have problems ( i have lots) they get worse so a fresh install is needed and i dont want to have to create all the gpos and users ect ect. so i wondered if i could do what you said if you have done it i know it can be done. I hate upgradding as it dont always work and tis way i can delete stuff and not put it back just keep it if i need to do put it back will free up some space as well.

i have thought of that but we are very short of pcs and the desktops are not man enough for the job also there is no way to back up the desktops as they have no tape/dvdwriters. I know i can update the 2003 to 2003 r2 but i want to do a clean install and introduce things back slowly all i want to keep is the ad layout PS sorry about the rant I was told i was thick all trough school and when i was 23 i was told the reason they did not pick it up was because I am good at hiding it In the words of the person testing me if i was thicker the would have tested me at school.

what if you set the creds like pcname/admin and then the local password i know you woulds have to know all the local passwords and pc name but i think you can set it up with a bat file in psshutdown cant you

i am learnig would like to know what the min spec you would use for a internal web server thats all it will be used for about 60 clinets min ans hopefully stream some media.

well i got my room booked as i have friends who live up in london so it is really cheap for me If you need a hand setting up next year can offer my services now lol as i will be going up the monday befor ( got lots of drinking to do did not have enough time this year lol)

sorry i am dyslexic and not a typist and not a teacher and if you want to be funny there are a lot of spelling mistakes in there but i did not know that i had to get my dictonary and therosours out befor posting i have edited the quote the best i can PS sorry if it is not upto english O level I can navagate ships correct charts repair computers manage servers but i cant spell or write very well but i can do Sin and Cos in my head (maths) work out adding hex in my head but i still cant write so i am sorry for this fact !! ok here is the thing i want to do a fresh install of 2003 r2 on my server. is there a way i can use vm install r2 on the vm wait till the pdc updates r2 on the vm machine slow time transfer folders accross needed . back up r2 on the vm machine and then format computer removing all the other stuff not needed ( backing it up befor hand just in case) and then install r2 back fresh onto the server and update it with the saved back up from the vw server. will this work can you do a normal backup from a vmserver can anyone see any problems. the problem i have is the server has never had a fresh install of anything. its been updated from one machine to another and there are still bits of the origanal nt server on it where it has been updated and updated and then backup installed on another machine i want to start from fresh only want ad and some other stuff.

ok thats it looks like it is downloading lol hope it works going to have to try it in work as i have only got wireless at home. Just off hand how much ram prossising power ect do you think it will need as i have got an old pc i was looking at using as a test base. any idears it had xp installed but hard drive is not big enough to suit our needs as it is only 10G

what version of vista are you using as i have been told schools can only buy into home pro or bisness not ultamate

the problem with that if (i hope not ) the laptop crashes hd fails or any other component when you send it back under warentie the first thing most of these companys do is reformat laptop. then you lose all the teachers data and it is not backed up at least with roaming profiles the only data they will lose is since last logged into the network. and since docs backed onto the server they can use any spare laptop till theres is fixed or in may case i get them to use a desktop till i have sorted it. they can also use a desktop during ppa time if you need to install new software on there laptop.

we have just had this problem our suppler of licences (not ramsys) sold us our licences 10 xp volume licences and 1 2003 r2 licence with cals. ok you say what the problem noone in the lea has the authotity to download said software it is given to council who will not do it as they say they dont support schools. and the coumpany we bought the licence from will not supply the media ( they will but for a silly cost??) hasten to say we have switched supplyer and will not be getting licences from them any more.
