  1. We're exactly the same setup as yourself. On prem sophos firewall, domain joined laptops. I can recall trying to setup the Sophos Connect VPN to be "always on" but ran into various issues. Our workaround was restricting our MIS/365 via IP location (conditional access) so they are pretty much forced to use the VPN to access any platform.
  2. You can use any, just buy a decent brand like Kingston, WD, samsung etc..
  3. Check the disk health, amount of reads/writes etc.. we use Crystaldisk to do this 8GB of memory isn't much nowadays especially with Windows 11
  4. Yea this skips the useless animation which wastes between 5-10 seconds for no reason
  5. That's the main issue I think - all of our IT rooms are just bookable shared rooms.. they are an absolute nightmare sometimes. I nearly get a call every day about a keyboard/mouse needing to be replaced. Every half term we give the rooms a really good tidy, but they always end up being dumps not long after. I've just started keeping track of items i'm replacing in an excel sheet
  6. I'm sure plenty of your have dealt with this, looking for some ideas We are replacing a ridiculous amount of keyboards/mice each term.. anyone have any suggestions to try and keep a lid on this? I know the root of the problem is classroom behaviour issues.. I don't want to have to go down the route of creating a IT check sheet for the teachers to complete as it's too much hassle. Was thinking about making some posters showing how much it costs to replace a keyboard / mouse etc
  7. Interesting, i'm going to give this a test. We block .exe, .msi etc with applocker & also block the store via GPO. Edit : No work around with our setup, it just says the store is blocked & they can't run the .exe files
  8. Couple years ago we purchased about 10 iPads to use for a similar case - shared devices in a classroom. I used Mosyle back then (free version) to set restrictions, push apps etc.. worked well. I still use Mosyle now to be honest (albeit we're now on the paid version, as our number of devices has increased from about 10 to 80 odd & i needed the extra management features)
  9. Mosyle has a free version, which may cover what you require for the 12 devices. Will they be "shared" iPads?
  10. I was earning 28k on a 1st line helpdesk position in the midlands last year, this seems a bit on the low side for the responsibility / experience you are requesting - even more so down south
  11. We have this problem too with MAK keys
  12. Ideally on it's own physical machine, however it's ok to run it on it's own VM on the hypervisor. Domain joining isn't best practice & reduces security
  13. Personally, i wouldn't want to use anything other than Sophos or Smoothwall in a school
  14. I've been with Peasoup for 2 years now, not experienced anything like this personally
  15. Steven, if you DM me I can potentially supply you with the latest version of EWP before it went onto the paid version...
  16. Nope no error at all I did email support & they just said the email is bouncing back & that was it. (helpful)
  17. Anyone else having issues receiving email from AQA? Before you can download any test papers, you need to have a code sent to your email as a step of verification. Upon clicking the link to send the code the email never arrives. We are receiving all other AQA email as normal. No traces of any email from the below address. I've spoken to support & they are saying it's an issue on our end as the email is bouncing back. The email address should be [email protected]
  18. Yes using per client. Here it's only two users. 1 being the site manager, another the headteacher. We've just stuck with the IVMS software. I did try using the webplugins but ran into no end of issues so didn't bother with it.
  19. Hit and miss here with IVMS 4200. Sometimes crashes & doesn't save settings. Other than that it's ok..
  20. Hmmm, I hope we can get them on OVS, otherwise we're up shi** creek with no paddle & will end up paying consumer prices.. Our usual licence provider isn't offering the education discounts so we will have to go elsewhere
  21. I've emailed our licence supplier this morning regarding the ESU's, haven't heard anything back yet though.
  22. Does anyone else use Sharepoint / Microsoft Lists as a helpdesk? I've just created one & have it all setup for testing, however running into an issue. I'm adjusting the item-level permissions on the list so that general users can't see each others tickets. This works great, however doing so breaks any Automate/flow rules which were setup for ticket email notifications. Is there a way I can have the permissions set so that users can't see eachothers tickets, while still also having the Automate rules working?
  23. RX580 was a great card for the price, think mine was the Sapphire Nitro+ variant. I paid about £200 for mine too if i recall correctly. Got a few good years use out of it however eventually the card failed
