+1 for other staff to be users please. My cover supervisors could really make use of this! Works great for the 50 teachers. Only issue for me is the fact that only teachers with students in their time table can log behaviour. This is a whole school issue at the moment. Can this be changed? Pleeeease...

Speckteky, are you using the same server for your sqlsims and ad authentication/ dc? -
I have 12ish 2008r2's running 2dc's, file servers, print servers, sql, etc. all vms. All w stations are 7at the mo... Would you advise starting with machines such as print server or the dc's? What are the key issues to look out for such as adding a 2012r2 as a 3rd live dc to a 08 structure and do I start with the PCD? I'm just after a bit of a roadmap or loose plan advice here and some things to consider from you lot as most things I'm sure is over complications the issue. Also some good sites/ books to help would be. Great if you know of any. Happy Movember!

AHA. Thanks themighty..... reminded me of some old internet relay chat stuff... showing my age! Yes was just about to say that this is near what i did BUT................. I logged into the machine after a gpforce and did not have to enable the l admin account myself; it was already enabled?! All i did was create a policy that added me to the local admin account. Does this mean that by adding a dom user as local admin in restricted groups via GP that this enables the admin account if it disabled? The reason i ask is that I disable built-in admin and create my own local admin account for the school pc's so would like to keep track of which pc's have this account enabled.....

Access denied :-/ This, however has worked on one machine..... about to test the others.. How to Make a Domain User the Local Administrator for all PCs - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki I wasn't holding out much hope for it and I'm really not sure how it also re-enabled the built in admin account....... but I'm very happy if this works on all! stand-by....

Please can someone help here? I am having issues with laptops of teachers that have been fine for ages now suddenly appearing with issues updating sims, fms etc. the issue is that the local admin account is disabled and i have access denied whenever i try to re enable it. The local admin account that I created on them have dissappeared!! All i need to do is get in as local admin but all ways (secpol, cmd :active GP on machine) gives me 'Access denied'. I am a domain admin and logging in as main admin of domain does not work either. Hiren boot offline password will not work as Bl****** truecrypt is stopping it and i cannot decrypt without admin privelidges!!!!! ARRRRGHHHH Come on clever bods; you can do it!

Thanks indeed. After all laptops in the trolley failed I finally got round to trouble shooting today. In the events it had clues in the login ui.exe fault pointing towards bioperfcred.exe. After tweaking the registry to enable uninstall in safe mode, I removed the finger print reader software and all was fixed! Was helped by a similar fault with Dell laptops on a forum which was a loginui issue with fastboot....will thank when on a pc and not this app! Cheers Cooka.

Please can anyone save me from having to re-image?! I have 30 new ssd drive BGN wifi laptops connecting to our new wifi nicely in the library. Now all of a sudden 12 of them are stuck at the interactive logon screen that users have to click OK to continue to logon screen. When you click OK after boot for the first time, it appears as though it is continuing for a couple of seconds and then flashes back to the same screen. Safe mode is fine?! I have even removed the policy from the domain to test and all other machines are not showing this screen now; the laptops however are still getting stuck on it. i know not how to progress here. Any help greatly appreciated as to how others would troubleshoot this. Thanks all!

Thanks Norphy, I'm sure Meraki has something for this actually. I'll look into it; we have a new Meraki WLAN and edge switching here.

Thanks all. Seems that council did not know the network we were using. Some previous nm here put a home router in and bridged 2 networks and subnetted into a 1.0/16 network! That would be a Thailand public network. Slowly stayed bringing it all back to a 10.... This is a big job. Cover me.... I'm going in. :-/

Okay all. I am trialing reflector and looking into airplay but as staff Wifi and student byod are both on different vlans to the pc wired network, how do you configure bonjour to work around this? I have tried quickly looking for guides. Is this Simples?

Thanks all. I have looked at ninite and pdq and the trial I had worth one of the made the same mess as I had experienced myself so I assumed that song or myself was the only site way to sort it. Which has the better support if I went with one of themdo you think? Going to try to get it sussed with gp first.- 8 replies

Iwb image on students laptops that is. ...
-
Re VI students, I have tried many things and have settled on Lanschool to show Teacher's iwb image on their laptops. They also have zoom text. .. a far better magnifier than windows one. The gotcha is that the teacher has to show their screen in 'windowed' mode. With our new n wlan there is no lag at all but was still working well on g... both have free trials.

Hi geekers, Please, as a last resort, I am appealing to you for help. having spectacularly failed to deploy Java 5.0.52 2 weeks ago for a controlled assessment for AQA, I had to do the suite manually with less than an hour to sort it! i have read and read over the last 6 months and have yet to have a definitive way to sort Java, (flash+reader too), but mainly java gives me the stress. Last time I tried this, The offline installer msi that i grabbed from the %appdata%locallow folder appeared to deploy on computerstartup as I have verbose mode enable and could see it installing. However, when going into control panel to check the version, Java is completely destroyed saying that there is no version at all; Java icon is replaced with the unknown file icon... the really annoying thing is that this damned online test (the same one that worked with .52 three weeks ago was now demanding v.55!!!! Please could someone give me a good guide? Everyone goes on about simply deploying Java as the msi but why EVERYTIME I try this, it NEVER works? DO I need to uninstall every java on every machine to deploy this way and if so, how can i easily do it? I have spent enough hours on this and am sure there must be many ways you guys never have to worry about it like this. Please help me over this once and for all........ If it the last thing I do, I want it done and done right :-/

None of the devices will do what the OP said he wants, i.e. mirror an iOS device. Norphy, so can I really not mirror what is on Ipads onto whiteboard with AppleTV attached to projector? The one I tested seems to do this okay. What am I missing :-/
-
Hi there all. Could anyone give me some examples of anything different to use than Apple TV? My boss requires me to find out the cost and not sure how effective they would be with vga to hdmi converters plugged into projectors without hdmi (most of them). I remeber not being too impressed with the quality. Is this your experience? This was however with the old 'g' wireless and now we have 'n' schoolwide it may be better. i will be trying with my ATV soon but was wanting your thoughts too. Apart from being expensive at £90 for every classroom, I thing I would def have to replace at least half of the projectors with ones with hdmi inputs. I just need the teachers and the kids to be able to display their ipads on the board. Student owned devices. Thanks all.

Hi Galway, thanks for this. Interestingly, they installed a trial in school some six months ago and I see the client on many machines still. I did not have time to investigate further so did not continue with buying. Could the service still be running and interfering do you think? I say this because the council insist all is unblocked at their end.

Thanks for all these succint answers. You are all very helpful. thanks again.

Hi. thanks for the quick reply! They do use Smoothwall. Is this a typical Smoothwall block image then? We have nothing onsite yet but I''m working on having it on-site in future instead as we have paid for a SW licence.
