  1. I have this block image pop up on many sites in school. I contest with the council and they insist it is not blocked with their filtering and all is fine. this is an example of what I am trying to access Quiz embed I have tried changing the global setting to every combination possible. Please do you have something to make this work for my students and teachers; they are all looking at me strangely now I really don't know what is going on here!
  2. Wow, this is great. It's unusual to get such consensus in such a forum. Thanks everyone indeed.
  3. Hi all, Have any of you any experience with ssd's as main/ only hdd on your enterprise clients? i am about go lease another round of 100 small forms and am considering 128ssd instead of 500gb standard drives and was wondering if this would/ has presented any problems with anyone. i know network is the main contention with speed logging on etc. but for video editing etc, i was thinking that this may be a good option. Thoughts please.
  4. Thanks again all. This is great. I'll prob go for a little bit of a mix as I have some software gpo's already working fine; shockwave, adobe reader etc... I'm assuming that if i put out local admins pw on then that will stay for the image but what about the domain, activation of win7 and office?
  5. Thanks for all the replies. it is useful indeed. Should I be just building on the win7 os that the build pc comes with then and changing the activation key or installing my downloaded MS VLC image and building from there and hence then checking all the drivers are up to date and the correct ones from the dell website etc?
  6. Happy New Year all! I am about to lease 80-100 Dell 3020's and am getting them to do my image. they will be sending me one to sort as i like so along with activated office cs4 SIMS and the like, what tips for other settings have you got for me because I am bound to forget something! UAC, LSP, etc? Does anyone know of a good checklist for this? Also, could you clear up whether i need enterprise or should i go for 7 pro as i do not use KMS activation. The last lot of Dells here have 7 ENT but I'm not 100% on the benefits; despite much reading. Can i pre-activate based on my Volume licence key? Thanks for reading!
  7. Yes, they have, thanks Sted. I just double-checked!
  8. Hi all thanks for quick replies! It is set to Update. I will try changing it to replace. Standby.....
  9. I have recently moved one of the shared area to the new fileserver. I have changed the Group Policy under UC-PREF-WINDOWS SETTINGS-DRIVE MAPS to point to the new server, however, none of the teachers, kids, etc are getting the new drive?! Why would this be and can you give me a few tips? I have recently inherited this and everyone is already using a login.exe logon script to deploy printers. Don't ask- I have no idea how to modify that!! that's for another post I reckon! When I ran robocopy to copy files, was there something else I was supposed to do? thanks for reading.
  10. Sir

  12. Sir

    xcopy or robocopy?

Please quick help with a simple problem for you lot i'm sure... I'm trying to copy from the old fileserver to a physical server so i can archive on disk the students that left last year. Copying and pasting is not working as it seems to only want to copy 5ish gb instead of 60!Trying to use xcopy but getting 'invalid parameters' and 'parse error' etc xcopy D:\users\intake2008\\*.* /s "\\winhost\c$\Leavers\2013 Student Leavers\*.*" /c/y/i/h/r I'm running this from the server where the files are currently I JUST NEED THE SPAAAAAAAACE............ thanks for reading.
  13. Hi NM Thanks for the post. It would be great for your input. I have been reading lots in the evenings from Garner (I think it is!) and InfoTech reports. Both mention the same group of wireless systems with slightly differing recommendations.... these ones.... Gardner report of companies... Magic Quadrant for the Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure Info-tech research http://www.enterasys.com/company/literature/info-tech-wlan-vendor-landscape.pdf http://www.enterasys.com/company/literature/InfoTech-Research-Group-NAC-Vendor-Landscape.pdf It gives me some ideas of what to include but your thoughts would be appreciated.... Since my continued investigation of my network meant switching off switches, some of the wireless pas seemed to start behaving?! Not sure if it is a coincidence but many are still showing up as networks.... Much of my network mapping is so that I have some idea of what IP addresses all this kit has. Justlogging onto one of them left me a little baffled as to why it was set o channel 8. Not a recommended channel from my limited knowledge? Some of the other settings seemed possibly wrong but I;m not exactly sure.... on reading the user manual for the model that is in my school it seems that most settings were left on the default setting. They don't have the latest firmware but the specs seemed quite reasonable (DLink 3500AP) Each of them seems to broadcast 3 networks?! Anyhow, I'll try to get round to getting a InSSIDer screenshot this week as you suggested... Thanks again Tim
  14. Hi, I have been given to go ahead for a major overhaul of our wireless in school. I have been told that they would like to investigate ip telephony as part of the install so would really like some pointers/ experience of projects. I'm not sure whether to include the voip/ ip telephony system in the whole quote. Also, I would like exampls of success stories for similar size projects (800 students/ 100 staff). Have been looking at Meraki, Aruba, Xirrus, Ruckas. Any others worth considering? Any other suggestions? Our project is planning for upward of 1000 devices connecting with some high density zones in the building. No ideas of companies to contact at the moment either; any suggestions greatly appreciated. Please no direct contact from sellers on here; I am after advice from end users! Also, I want to make sure I have everything in my RFQ's. Can anyone offer any tips here? Thanks all!
  15. Ok cheers, I'll get on that on Monday.... Have a good weekend! TG
  16. Thanks indeed! This is very helpful and I'll certainly check out qualifications. I am exceedingly interested in this subject. TG
  17. We use configurator for school profile when new and then manage apps with meraki over wireless. After changes are made to app, it just installs to all those with meraki profile installed- JOB DONE- luvely!
  18. Hi there, thx for reply. At my last school i used a free tool called erkhau heat mapper i think. AP's are something very similar, if not D-Link DWL-3200AP...... Are there any better tools you would use? As an aside, I have been given the go ahead to upgrade the whole school ready for BYOD in 6 months to one years time, so will be picking your brains about his in the coming months if that is okay? In the meantime, I could still do with troubleshooting what we have. Thanks again TG
  19. Hi San, How are you doing? I have 9 VM's and a few physicals for backup- Veeam..... A massive vote for LANSCHOOL here 800 kids- 100 staff/ exchange for staff, 365 for students. Sophos AV found excellent but possible expensive on it's own. We buy into consortium so have volume discount.....
  20. dropping 'connections' rather! :-/
  21. Hi Neilmac, Thanks for your generous offer of help. I have recently inherited an ageing network and am having particular problems with AP's in my school. We have around 40 yet in some parts, rogue ap's have started popping up as networks around areas which have started completely dropping connect to the point of being unusable. Could you spare a moment to share some of your tips on how you would start to troubleshoot these area of the school? I have teachers needing to take registers with the school's MIS on laptops! Thank you. Tim
  22. Hi Ed; cheers for the clarification. Yes we seem to use a mixture of Local/ roaming profiles- i have only ben here for 2 weeks and there are loads of oddities for me to go through.. If he has a roaming profile, where would I find the user profile on the network- I can't remember what/ where the file is! Also by deleting the profile, am I not going to mess up his faces, desktop etc?
  23. Hi there. Could you explain what you mean, Ed? Cheers.
  24. Hi. Thanks for suggestion. I'll check that first thing in the morning.
  25. I have a user in our in-house managed exchange server 2010 who simply cannot snooze or dismiss his calendar appointments. Each time he does, whether snoozing for 5 10 15 mins etc, the reminder pops up again with 20 seconds! This is the same for dismissing reminders.. The only way to stop this is by deleting the event. As you will agree keeping records of appointments is important for our users. I have found very little about this online and it only happens to this one user (out of about 60). I have had calendar issues where users use a mobile device to access their account but this user only accesses his at his work workstation... Can anyone help me please...........?
