I'm using GPP's to do the same thing. Since rolling them out at the beginning of September it's been great. We're able to target a printer based on a users group membership, their OU, the OU of the computer and a million other different options. If you're running windows server 2008 or have a vista client you can set the policies up on then your good to go with GPPs (http://www.gpoguy.com/Portals/0/Group%20Policy%20Preferences%20Overview.pdf). For XP + 2003 clients you just need to install the client side extensions so they recognise the GPP's and it should all work

Or do what I do - download ADExplorer from the Microsoft Sysinternals website. It'll give you the proper ldap string for any object

About 1050 students, 80-100 staff. Around 450ish desktops and laptops. Just moved to a brand new fully virtualised (on Citrix XenServer) Windows Server 2008 R2 domain with XP clients. It's just me (the Network Manager) and my assistant. He only moved from being part time to full time at the start of July as well!

That's great news . If its supported from the October release I think I may have to look at moving the staff laptops over to Windows 7 at Christmas. Full HD encryption with AD integration for no extra cost (and the centralised management of being tied into AD) is too tempting not to roll out

Due to the move to a new server room going quite as planned (do things ever!) I've been sat here all weekend fixing XenServer and the connection to the SAN. For some reason they stopped wanting to play nice which means no virtual hard disks = no new network Got it working again now...except it's managed to loose all of the meta data for the VHDs so I'm having to manually attach them to a server, boot it up, figure out what server it actually is and then attach it to the correct VM.

I have been half tempted to build our own Asterisk based PBX, but decided it's probably better to go down the all-in-one route since should I leave they'll still want to use the phone system and there's no guarantee that the next person will be able to support a Linux custom built Asterisk pbx system Very interested in the Mitel stuff since it's looking like we'll be rolling out some Sun Ray gear in the next 6-9 months. Just need to find a reseller and get some pricing to compare

I'm currently looking at OCS as well. We're just looking at a new IP PBX and while we're at it I thought I may as well see about integrating it into OCS and our new Exchange 2007 setup. I'm currently leaning towards a Avaya IP PBX, which I've been assured by a couple of people integrates "seamlessly" into OCS. Does anyone have any experience of using IP PBX's with OCS and have any recomendations? Since we're upgrading from an ancient BT Rhapsody analogue system we're starting from scratch with our phone system so anything goes really

Well I've got the CIFS shares connecting over NFS on a Windows file server and then being shared out that way for now. Just hope that there's a fix so I can do the sharing without the file server in the middle

I'll give that a try in a bit. I've always got the fallback of just setting up some 2008 R2 file servers to serve files off the SAN that way - one of the benefits of virtualisation

Does your S7000 actually connect to the 2008 R2 domain? Mine doesn't even get that far I've tried playing with the various security policies to enable NT4.0 level compatability (Modify Default Security Policies on Windows Server 2008-Based Domain Controllers) but it still doesn't want to work unfortunately. Have to say I'm really hoping that Sun fix this issue quickly!

You see mine was happily in love with our 2003 R2 DC, but refuses to talk to our 2008 R2 DC Haven't tried rejoining the 2003 R2 domain yet.

The 7210 uses a different type of JBOD I believe to reach the 142TB max. From what I remember it can take 2 x J4500 JBOD units, which I think is essentially the 7210/X4550 chassis with the JBOD bits added to it .
