on a large monitor i cant go back to the WinXP looks, the larger title bar and W7 setup is a great step forward i think. I get to work and use XP and get reminded of clunkier older days! Havent yet tried the larger task bar on a small device but couldn't recommend more on a big screen. (I havent used Vista since the release of the W7 beta)

It seems there are some contradicting posts on the web at the moment, as far as I am aware it has been confirmed that blu-ray support will be part of Windows 7. I hope so as it was my plan to get a media centre PC when I can afford it to go with the HDTV in the front room. I cant stand power dvd and the like, always found them slow and unresponsive programs so wouldn't want to really have to use them still.

Looks like we have a Fronter trainer coming in next week, gonna ask him a few questions re: the interface etc. Hopefully may be able to iron out some of the kinks involved in making it work effectively.

Also trying to cache fronter is a mistake as apparently all the pages are created dynamically upon access.

not had that issue, we are using IE6 here. Fronter is slow but not that slow here. Is it the same across board or is it limited to a few machines?

How do you have ubuntu installed? is it on a partition or through Wubi? If its through Wubi it could be fragmentation of the partition which could have happened during install :s Just a thought.

The ability to quickly add quizzes and other activities seems to be very slow as well. This product seems to look better on paper than in practice.

We are using Fronter here too, I am curious, has anyone actually managed to get it working efficiently? It seems awfully slow and expecting kids to navigate through a user interface which reminds me of XTreeGold seems a little far fetched. Also it doesn't support course formats like moodle so you can't show / hide parts of courses at the begginning and unhide them over time. (At least I think) All in all it seems like it hasn't been designed properly to be a VLE and just seems to host a folder structure and a basic online web designer. I'd be interested to see a working example as they are not easy to come by (like moodle) so I could be missing something completely and be using a fantastic product!!

I believe VirtualBox has some weird hashes on the hard drives which prevent you from copying drives like that, you have to use the VBoxManage copy function which creates a new drive, but it takes AAAAAGES.

This was based on the spanish flu epidemic which was rare for an influenza type virus. Thats not to say this one wouldn't be the same tho :s

I think that the mortallity rate is still higher in the older and younger generations. The transmission rate will be higher within that group because generally the 20-50s are in contact with a lot more people at work etc.

Is it not possible to use snapshots of the VM? Instead of giving the student access to the main virtualbox screen use command line to start the VM through a batch file using: VBoxManage startvm | and using it to revert the snapshot on exit? VBoxManage adoptstate | (i think)

With the ability to travel faster these days the number of people you come into contact with in a day is vastly increased compared to an equivalent person in 1918 meaning the potential audience for transmission is far greater. Considering the quantity of people who have had the virus I would say that its pretty likely that it is transmitting between humans, unless all these people had contact with the one potential farm its supposed to have come from.

If you have a lot of RAM though disabling the swap drive will decrease the writes and reads to a HDD and technically increase performance.

I have heard of some issues with the maximum rewrites to a SSD is that still true? Some are claiming around 100 000 rewrites before failure, but I have heard of people complaining of a shortened lifespan compared to HDD for intense use.

if the drive spins up try the program PhotoRec, it will scan all the HDD sectors for lost files similar to companys like OnTracks software etc. It will discover dead partitions too so it doesn't have to appear in My Computer.

Disable the crazy amount of software that comes with the laptop. This will disable the function keys but it will tell you if its software or hardware. Also keep an eye on task manager to see what process is eating up the resources during the freezing times. + Update every driver from the HP site and look for a BIOS upgrade if it all fails. Despite what most people say, ive had no problems with Vista and I would probably think that it could be a software / non microshaft issue.

You should try NDISWrapper not the most userfriendly option for wireless but it works.

Yeah have thought of using that, but we use an RM system and I beleive it will delete the RM Default user profile which means that they wont be able to log on without us copying over another profile to the machine. (I think) Anyhow I mentioned this to the NM for testing but I don't think it was well recieved :s Anyhow back to deleting
