ooo a fellow PCW ex employee! Glad to see you love them o so much as well! I recommend a Lexmark which takes the Number 1 cartridges........... and a copy of Norton 360..... or not. We used Lexmark lasers at our PCW store at the time, they were ok, but had issues with them so I cant really recomend them. Try to look at the cartridges as well as the printer as some of the HP's (1010 i think) are nearly as expensive as inkjets to run. Saying that the HP business inkjet series is really good value and is capable of printing in colour as well for the cost of a B+W laser.

Is this similar in features to RM Tutor? It looks very good from what I can see and very simple to use.

You can continue scanning with ScanPST until there are no more errors :s But thats the only tool I have ever used.

Specs of PCs range, 30 pcs in each of the IT rooms mostly celerons with 256RAM V V V V V V V V V V slow sometimes upwards of 20 min logons for laptops! Just got a box full of RAM delivered tho! So thats sorted my time over the holidays!

Depends to what degree, I think I have read that Moodle 2.0 is planning more MIS integration features. We have Fronter here and its integrated with the MIS but its not proved useful at all bar creating users for us its managed to create 10000 rooms all called 10/PS/S or similar which is no use at all!!! I think the LDAP authentication module is more useful as it sorts out the users for you which is the main way we use SIMS in Fronter.

We had the same issue with Reason 0 here, seems to point to a general connection error. Connect.ini all fine, seemed to go away on its own here as well. It seemed to appear for us during periods of high network traffic and when the server was under extreme load. It was especially common when we had the antivirus scan scheduled over lunch with people logging onto it around that time it tended to have a hissy fit!

Just got rid of my N95, pretty nice phone, make sure you update the firmware it increases the speed of all the apps by miles!!! Carphone warehouse are doing great trade in deal for the N95 at the moment. Only downside of the N95 is that the Scumm VM is hard to use lol (I need monkey island as its awesome)

Reinstall iTunes and Quicktime. The problem here is that you are using iTunes Ive never had issues with iTunes but it is an awful piece of software. I worked at PC world for a long time and never came across that issue either so would recommend a full backup / factory reset if all else fails! Tis a sure way to fix it!

The super grub disk is a boot disk based on linux but it allows you to boot from any of your hard drives without a boot loader. Tis very useful if you uninstall linux after you have grubbed your hard drive! Means you can get back into windows wihtout having to wait 3 hours for the vista disk to boot! Anyhow its on the Ultimate boot cd which also includes Cute Partition manager. The other thing i can think of is, is the partition still marked as active? Im not sure why it wouldn't be but its something to check.

As a last hope try chkdsk, its the last thing I can think. Either that or the disk boot sequence has changed, sounds like its not even seeing the MBR from the windows disk as you would get a NTLDR error usually with that. Have you tried using the Super Grub disk to try to see the bootloader for it?

if you get a failing message try re registering the windows update DLL. regsvr32 wups2.dll This stopped those errors that just say "Update failed" helpful error that one!

We have got fronter here. Horrible system! Really hoping we can switch to moodle at some point as fronter is nearly unusable its so fiddly and ugly! I would test moodle on a VM if you have the ability to, its really simple to set up on a LAMP server. We have a test one going on my webspace at the moment and its so much nicer to use and so much more simple to configure!

We have tested the eeePC 901 Linux, not a big fan of that model disk space is limited for any updates and the update manager seems to find missing packages in the Asus repo. Not too impressed.

haha true! Trying to get teachers to use a VLE is hard too, we have fronter here at the moment and to be honest it is a horrendous ugly platform but noone has used it yet. (Well one person did and came back and said the kids hated it and were using stickys to talk to eachother! ) Try installing a PDF printer? Get people to give out PDF worksheets in a shared area?

Reduce the number of printers! If people have to walk they wont print so much! Encourage use of a VLE and handing in work online

libdvdcss is an encryption breaker, it basically allows the VLC player to play encrypted DVDs (Commercial ones). Had a big thread about VLC etc in schools http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/32486-codecs-dvds.html?highlight=codecs+dvds Im not really sure what to suggest here, we need MP4 playback in our school but are unsure of the implicaitons of using the ffdShow codecs etc.

Or media player classic, comes as a nice single EXE with no installation. I use it from my USB key.

The gutman wipe takes SOOOOOO long! 32 passes of it as well!! Im sure its thorough!

We have a couple of the short throw projectors, hitachi ones, the quality is excellent even in relatively bright rooms. We have one mobile projector and board, although it turns out its not too mobile as its too tall to fit through the doors so its confined to one hall

Does it have to be Windows software? have you tried Edubuntu it has really good resources for that age group and is completely free.
