Very soon my country will be using Fronter's VLE. Fronter VLE is asking me as a new client to put up a help desk for all stakeholders (administrators, teachers, parents and students). Does anyone have any experiences to share? What should be included? What is required and what are the implications of setting up a help desk? What are the type of most common questions and who can best answer them (technicians, teachers...?)

OK, so like many schools we have been 'given' Fronter, got started a bit last year, its now on the School development Plan and I am meant to have a 'vision' and the steps to get there! Whilst I understand that each school has different needs, and so there is not a standard way to implement Fronter across schools (mine is a Primary) is there anyone out there who has been successful in implementation and can help give me some direction. LEA is supporting this year, but after being to a strategic planning meeting I'm not sure I'm any the wiser!! Many thanks

As a school with a lot of EAL we would like to add some kind of software to support these students. We are using Fronter and any information would be of great value. Thank you in advance George

I've just had a client ask for some temporary resource to manage/undertake some Fronter Migrations. First school to be done from 12th July, the other schools done oevr the summer holidays and may require two people Don't have much more info than this at the moment but if anyone is technical, understands their way around fronter and wants some summer work then please PM me asap London based work although I think ther summer work can be done remotely will

Hi, I am using Fronter with our own room structure (as opposed to SIMS import) and it was all working fine until a couple of days ago. Now some staff are getting an error message 'you do not have read access in this room) when the try to access the room from the entrance hall. I know it's a permissions thing, but i have given the pertinent staff groups 'room owner' permissions (I think!). Help - I'm confused! many thanks in anticipation.

Heloooooooo, Has anyone here managed to use hand in folders effectively in Fronter? I am finding it rather difficult to use due to the way we have fronter set up (Let me expand on that!) We have rooms set up which all students have read only access to. We have not used the SIMS rooms as there are litterally hundreds of them and copying and keeping that many rooms up to date is unworkable. Currently we have 1 room for each subject which in the student resources folder we have a folder structure which some resources (powerpoints etc). Due to this we have a kind of all or nothing approach to the hand in fodlers, either the whole school can hand work in or we have to individually select students to hand work in! Which is silly considering it has to be done every time there is a new assignment!!!!

Hardly anyone using any of the commercial products any more?

Hiya, I have recently been made Fronter Admin at my school. I have attended one course and am trying to get to grips with what I have learnt. Something I really need help with is the following. I want each class to have individual folders for the pupils. This is not for pupils to add work to so they would only need read access. The reason for the folders is for teachers to put in their half termly reports. As an admin I have been able to set up these folders. However, when I log in as a teacher I cannot see the individual folders. How can I change this so that as a teacher I can see all the folders? Thank you, Sophia

Hi I've created videos with my class and saved them as .avi files. Anyone know how I can display these in Fronter? I've tried uploading as a file and then creating an internal link but this doesn't work. I've also tried 'uploading media' in the text editor. This did work however it took about 15 mins to upload and another 5 once you open it (& this video was only 15 seconds long). There must be an easier way, just can't see the wood for the trees! Thx in advance

When my staff or students access Fronter from IE 8 on Windows 7, most images are replaced with red X's. The yellow bar says:- Clicking the yellow bar and selecting "Display Blocked Content" has no effect. I think it a Group Policy IE setting somewhere, but I can't find which. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi everybody, Is there any way to get the reporting of Scorm tests in Fronter's Portfolio right? I have tried using different test authring tools to produce scorm compliant tests and then use them in Fronter. I can never get the correct reporting in Portfolio. Is there anybody that has found any solution to it? Thank you, Michal

Hi all, It rears its ugly head with a new Fronter user again: how can you simply embed another web page within a given Fronter page? If you write some HTML code that should embed another web page on a given Fronter web page using the IFRAME tag, upon saving the code you are told by the system that illegal code has been stripped - your attempts to embed another document appears fruitless! e.g. (please excuse the spaces - it would only post in this condition) I've trawled through various topics on here with other technicians struggling to get objects embedded into the VLE web pages and there are talks of having the unsafe IFRAME tags unlocked at LEA level; more often than not this still doesn't rectify the problem? Surely there is a parameter you can switch on/off to prevent the VLE from stripping the HTML code you enter? If there is, could I ask someone who has had success to list a clear step-by-step set of instructions that will talk me and others through it? A workaround that I have already considered is to use the OBJECT tag, but this simply shows a blank white space (with disabled vertical scrollbars I might add) instead of the desired web page. e.g. In contrast, other VLE's such as Frog, Moodle and SharePoint-based ones all offer great support for embedding external content to the VLE web pages. Greatly looking forward to your suggestions, VLE_man

Dear All, I have written a report which will be circulated as a white paper comparing the usability features of Moodle with Fronter. This is a general overview of the main features and does not attempt to study the systems in an in-depth way. The report looks at the two systems from the point of view of teachers. I'm a frequent (though not expert) user of both systems and would really welcome comments from users of these systems, particularly if I've made any errors in my assumptions. The report is attached as a Word doc. All comments welcome please! Best wishes Cheryl Fronter_vs_Moodle.doc

We have been using Fronter since Novemeber after completeing the initial integration from Serco Facility CMIS. We are due to change to SIMS for the next academic year and I am wondering what affect this is going to have on Fronter. I'm not sure if our teaching groups are going to be named using the same convention and I guess if this is the case then I am going to end up with a load of duplicate rooms (as such). Can SIMS support any naming convention when it comes to teaching groups - at the moment they follow this: 11E6Engl - [11 - year 11][E - exarts faculty][6 - group 6][Engl - English] Has anybody been is such a situation? I've raised the quesiton with the London MLE helpdesk but it seems they don't know either!

Hi All We have Fronter as our VLE. Some use is being made of it but we would probably get moving faster if we saw good practice eg use of ILPs, creation and integration of learning goals and so forth. Anyone out there willing to let myself and a colleague visit to view and discuss? We are base in Gravesend so most of the South East would be good. Appreciate any help including links to helpful (not Fronter run!) sites on how tos. Thanks Mike

Hi, We've started using fronter in school this year since September. I have been asked to monitor the usage to see which users (staff and pupils) have logged on, when and which areas they have been accessing? I have tried the Login stats but this just gives an overall number for each set of user rather than individual. Also I have accessed each of the classroom activity via the portfolio section however this does not give into on the staff. Neither of these methods give me the info that I need. Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

This is the problem we have at our school. We have a websense box that is supplyed by the LEA. This has the same settings as other secondary schools with in the county. We are all having fronter forced upon us from LEA level. The problem our school is having is that it takes about 5 minutes for fronter to load using internet explorer (version 6 & 7), but if we try using firefox with the same proxy settings and proxy bypass settings it takes about 5 seconds, which is a lot better. Deploying firefox across the school is not a solution. Has anybody seen this or got any ideas on what could be causing this?
