Wow, chill. Some simple facts - we have an obligation from our job to our organisation to ensure the safety of the personal data we record and process. The governor wants to ensure this is the case and appears to have put across a request, maybe not in the best way but no doubt would want reassurance to see what steps are being taken to mitigate and minimise risk. They may not have all the facts, they are not the experts; not in the IT or the data protection side of things. We are aware of the data protection requirements, but are the experts in the IT side. It is therefore our job to educate and inform. All of this information should be recorded by the school anyway as to what data they hold, why they hold it, who has access to it and what steps are taken to reduce risk of a DPA issue. The governor I believe should be able to see this information if requested and it would then be prudent to find out what parts they would like adjusting and why. They probably have good intention but not the realisation of what it means. Keep communication up, speak to the people involved and that certainly includes your DPO and make sure all those people are correctly informed.

Aruba switches here - the switches are decent as you'd expect but cloud management from Aruba Central is still nowhere near suitable enough for switching IMO - it's still very much wifi-centric.

MFA would be a good step towards risk reduction here particularly when off-site. It won't definitively stop anyone who really wants access but from a general point of view, a teacher's kid/other half/nosey parent isn't going to lop off a finger to circumvent this. We have MFA for all services accessed outside of school including email and there are very few if any issues even from the lesser savvy.

Perfect My home storage handles backups, CCTV (2 cameras) via Luxriot and a uPNP server for video streaming to other parts of the house Machine itself is an old Stone computer with a pair of 2TB hard drives and SSD boot drive. 35w core i3 2nd gen and 8gb of ddr3 - all parts that would otherwise be scrapped as no good to man nor beast. So, it's impressive for it's power consumption and that's about it - otherwise it's not breaking records for performance. Yes - if those documents shouldn't be public, then they should not be in said doc type. If you're worried about confidentiality, bear in mind you are obliged to make them available to the parents upon request regardless.

You don't need a workaround, in the admin you can determine exactly what documents are available - under Documents in the admin, "document types" for learners, employees and parents - go through and tick what should be available, untick what shouldnt

It isn't their device. Whilst in the hands of a 3rd party, it is far more likely to be damaged or incur problems. It isn't therefore just protecting the school, it's data and the physical laptop, it's protecting that member of staff from embarrassment and a large bill.
