They get their own account. No generic accounts with direct logins else you fail CE. The only generic accounts we have (that aren't groups) are delegated access only, no one knows the passwords and they're behind 2 factor authentication enforcement.

They were £18 in 2019 and they're now £29 in 2025. Or £2.90 per year for a 10 year life of the device. Which when you consider they've extended the life from 5 to 7 to 10 in that time, and added features like Class Tools etc, is pretty good value.

ChromeOS has alway been an iterative single rolling OS which keeps itself up to date as long as your hardware is in the pre-declared Auto Update Expiry window. Windows and Office do not traditionally do this and has always been about distinct products and versions with hard End-of-Life dates that are regularly not communicated till after the replacement product is brought in. By your logic they didn't kill off Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger cause Edge and Skype replaced them.

There are huge amounts missing from the Microsoft list. For example, Xbox, Xbox 360, Midori, any old version of Windows or Office, Agent, Project Spark, Live Writer, Smartglass, Trident...

If you install Windows 11 on non-supported hardware, and then something goes wrong - even if it's got nothing to do with it directly - your insurer will attempt to use it to invalidate your claim. So don't risk it.

Whatever you decide, take it to your SLT for full backing. If you turn around and tell them not to install software, and then they proceed to lose it over their inability to install HP's printer software, or want to put software from a side hustle on it and SLT back them, then the policy isn't worth the paper it's written on.
