Almost any AI that is completely free (Google is "freemium" being the idea is that you'll like what you get for free that much, you'll pay for an upgrade) is going to be using your data for training purposes. Do not give up your student and staff data privacy for convenience. If you upload a student behaviour record into a public LLM, that thing could follow them around for life - particuarly if a future employer decides to look them up using an LLM.

NotebookLM is already free if you've got Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals (which is free). It is also a core product, and doesn't use EDU data to train (So little Jimmy's EHCP isn't uploaded into it for the world to see)

It really depends on the extension. We don't just enable anything willy nilly. We will do checks on who develops it, when it was last updated, what they advertise in regards to privacy policies etc.

I totally get where you're coming from, but I've been working in too many schools over the years to not expect an enterprising child or parent charging £2 each to get your phone out the pouch and they will only need 15 to be in profit. It is absolutely possible to do it. We worked with the competitior to find where in the registry Google was storing the email address on login. We also had the added bonus of multiple domains, so we had to pick up the user on login with their full email address as well as setting the use_shorter_account_name reg key in GCPW and forcing Chrome to sign in with the account on login. Because of the multiple domains it would just pick up the first user it found. So we had to find another reference on login, not just the short name. This does rely on having a local agent on the machine though, obviously. It was in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Accounts I believe. Don't quote me though!

I wasn't involved in those conversations, it was negotiated as part of extending with them for another 12 months, so I'm not sure there was a specific line item.

That might be something RM did for us then. We only had to remove the Office 365 app.

Defederating from 365 should be as simple as removing Office 365 the app in Unify. That's what we've done in the past.

Shortcuts as in on the browser bookmark bar? That's Managed Bookmarks Web Apps and PWAs are very similar to how you'd push an extension Customising keyboard shortcuts? No. That's not possible afaik. This is absolutely not correct. Licenses are transferrable in two circumstances afaik: 1. You're transferring from a ChromeOS Flex machine to a ChromeOS device within a year of the ChromeOS Flex machine being enrolled. 2. You're swapping a like for like device due to a repair/warranty issue and have had to replace the device with another of the same model. You can't have an ASUS Chromebook, replace it with a brand new HP one. It has to be the same make/model. If this has changed, they've failed to inform their customers.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time a security configuration template for schools to help them lock things down, is also a map to guide malicious actors to be able to find issues.
