You're not comparing like for like though. The vast majority of N64 carts were not just basic memory cards in a bespoke configuration. The vast majority of video games are now sold digitally, direct from the manufacturer. There are no distributors, no manfacturing, no shipping, no storage, no middle men on the sale of the game. Especially first party games. Not like Nintendo are top slicing 30% from themselves (which is still a lot cheaper than the amount lost from traditional sales) No box. No manual... Also, video game developers generally actually finished the game in the 90s when they shipped it at that price, rather than shipping it half fixed and spending 2 years throwing out patches till it's in a properly usable state.

It isn't about going paperless entirely, it's about making smart decisions on working and when it's needed. Do they need 30 copies of that worksheet that you tell them not to write on, which they do anyway - or could they work from the worksheet and produce their work on a piece of paper or in a workbook instead, which is far less costly than the print.

The problem with making savings, is that you won't be able to take the huge costs off the table that are there outside of staffing, so it ends up easier removing staffing than it is setting expectations on resources. You might have enough devices on your site to run a 1:1 scheme, but someone won't like the idea of doing that, so you end up with more devices than people to cover all the major departments. You can point out that with that many devices, you never have to print a thing again, but schools would rather throw £100 a day at printing than contemplate the idea that the vast majority of worksheets could be handed out digitally on the devices you've already got and are expected to have, or turned into digital resources, and reduce the massive cost of print and MFD lease, for example. Just won't happen, there is a cultural block in the sector in many ways, and a huge amount of the time it's about an individual's feelings, rather than anything factual. That's why tons of leadership teams are running around with Macbook Pros under their arm, but spend 95% of their IT based work day in a browser.

Theres a few things I'd want to make clear before I provided them. 1. Staff only. 2. Only in non-student accessible areas. 3. That they have to be a keyboard with some kind of encryption on the comms (Bluetooth, or something FIPS certified if it's USB dongle). Could sit there quite happily with a Flipper Zero intercepting every key stroke otherwise! 4. They are responsible for the batteries.

Correct! Only those licensed with Education Plus get gemini.google.com without the data being used for training and modelling by default. We've configured Gemini so that without the EDU Plus license, you don't get access.

If Chromebooks are part of the eligible for the 10 years of extended support updates releases for Chromebook, then that is what you're getting anyway. The extended support version for devices older than 2021 is ChromeOS Flex, basically. These dates are always and have always been published when devices are released, it's not like it's a surprise.
