OFSTED Classroom Tech Requirements
paulkerton replied to Disease's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Nope. Ofsted don't even consider anything with IT, frankly. It's very rare you'll ever see it mentioned in a report. Name and shame em! -
If the very first account they signed into the device with was their school account, then that'll be considered as the primary user of that device. If it isn't an enrolled Chromebook the answer is to powerwash it. Then they will need to use a personal account as the first one to sign into it once powerwashed. Then they can sign in with their school account after.

Usually because someone higher up with no grasp on the current and the future has decided they want a certain function. For example once I was told by a very senior decision maker "I don't like Google Docs because of how the tables are formatted, we should be Microsoft" Literally the cost difference was 2 full time teaching staff, but people have some very weird priorities.

I feel for ya. I've just started to reject anything that comes along as a fait accompli at this point. "Oh but you've already paid? Sucks for ya budget!"

You know what we're all going to ask don't you? Why was this procured if it requires you to go backward?

Wi-fi scheme only for ‘stuck’ schools after levelling-up plan ditched
paulkerton replied to loxford01's topic in IT News
This is an historic problem with schools in general though... Has been for a while. It's the same thinking as when you see rewards schemes based on being given behaviour points - for example - school trips which are based on behaviour points, filled with the most troublesome kids. Meanwhile the good kids have to stay at school because they have to do something exceptional to get a point, but the troubled kids just have to behave as everyone else is expected. Same logic. Do a bad job, get extra funding for it. -
School Closure / School merger - what happens to SIMS data?

If you're in a MAT and that MAT is continuing, I believe it's the MAT's responsibility - otherwise I'd have presumed it is the responsibility the LA, as they're effectively the provider of last resort? -
Yes, but on device, that takes a slightly different shape. By default it will create a local user on the device, that's 20 letters long at most (Windows limit) So if you have [email protected] and [email protected] for example, it will create a user based on the format username_domain Unless you specify in the registry settings to only user the shorter account name, those two users would end up having local users created called: bob_schoolname_sch_u and kevin_schoolname_sch If you set: Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Google\GCPW Value Name: use_shorter_account_name Type Type: DWORD Value : 1 It would then create the local users on the Windows device called: bob and kevin We had to find a way with our filtering provider (not Smoothwall in this instance) for their software to pick up the email address from the GCPW login, rather than trying to use the local user name. I believe they found a way via GCPW's registry entries upon login. Don't ask me how, though!

Well their FOI is suggesting that this mandatory move Welsh schools are facing is from the individual local authorities not from Central Govt. So the answer is to FOI each of them AND the Welsh Govt at the same time with the same request, I'd suggest! Especially as two FOIs now say "We can confirm that the Welsh Government does not hold the information requested, as the use of Hwb is not mandated in Welsh schools."

Chromebook Extended Updates - Opt In Required
paulkerton replied to DavR's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Chrome 132 LTS was released last month. https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2025/04/long-term-support-lts-channel-for.html Anything that froze on 126 should be getting 132 at this point, as long as you've opted in. -

We had it from multiple schools, on multiple site on multiple different ISPs. I'm in a PLN where many people were pointing it out too. It's not just us. They asked us to produce a HAR file, but the problem had solved itself at this point. Awaiting a response still.

I'm sure she does. I'm guessing it's the same "Why isn't it free for schools, it's for children" argument you hear from teachers on £70k plus, also not volunteering their time for free? 🤣
-
I have a ticket in with them, so hopefully we'll get a response!

Has anyone else experienced issues with images loading on Workspace this morning? Particularly images in Slides and in Chat?

Use an exams tool like Trelson or OrbitNote for Exams Trelson in particular is very cost effective.
