They're very different. Moodle is a fully featured, fully configurable LMS. Google Classroom is a classroom collaboration tool. They really don't compare. I'd say their case uses are very different, and the costs associated with each will reflect that. You'll need to self-host or pay for hosting Moodle and pay for support which may cost a lot more than Classroom support options would. It really depends what kind of school is using it, what software they use etc. Where Google Classroom really benefits is the Google Workspace integration for documents (which you can do with Google Assignments and Moodle now too, to be fair)

If you enter that room now, you should be able to turn off Quick Access, which will stop anyone else getting back in. Admins getting the ability to do that soon too.

C-Learning, Vitalize IT, AppsEvents and Canopy all offer training for this sort of thing. Might be worth getting a few of you together though to do this, to keep the costs down - even if its likely going to be virtual.

I'd be tempted to get some cheap earbuds with the school name screen printed on the box. You can get them done for about £1.50 a unit these days. Pass the responsibility for looking after the headphones to the kids. First ones free. Lose em and you'll have to bring your own or pay £3. That kinda thing.

Only transferrable to a like-to-like device (for moments like warranty replacement) As Chromebooks now all have an 8 year support schedule from the date of release my rough "back of a fag packet" maths says that's just over £0.01 a day per device or £3.75 a year for what is essentially the Chromebook MDM.

Management Licenses. The device control/management part of things. They announced it for March 2020, and then delayed it due to the pandemic. It's the first ever price increase. It's been £19 RRP for at least 7 years to my knowledge and in that time the support time for Chromebooks has gone from 4.5 years to 8, so its obvious why they're doing it. It was definitely mentioned in the Learning with Google event too.

Using the BBC data (which might be a week out, but its from half-term week)The area I live it's 250 per 100,000, 25 per 10,000 or 1 in 400. Where I work its 106 per 100,000, 10.6 per 10,000 or 1 in 944 and it has gone up slightly. Schools going back is going to make a difference, and will probably push the R rate towards 1.0 - It's just how close it gets, or whether it hits it or goes over thats the issue. But then again, there's a reason they're getting all schools and all pupils back for 3 weeks before 2 weeks off and not really changing anything else about lockdown. You're going to see the isolated information in the graphing that will show the effect of school returns. The real danger is if schools push the R rate really close to 1.0 again, are they going to push forward with the next steps regardless, like it felt happened in the summer last year? I think announcing dates for those next steps was probably a bit foolhardy, personally.

Oh, you're talking about refurbs not new. Sorry! Makes sense now. To be fair to yourselves, used Chromebooks are a false economy. There isn't any margins in those devices for resellers as is (you're talking maybe £1 a device for new machines being sold to schools) so for refurbs there's no chance of getting anything decent in and finding a margin to refurb and resell without the costs exceeding the price of new hardware. And as the biggest market is schools, then they're inevitably going to be bashed around quite a bit if they're coming in for refurb!

As someone who uses Chromebooks day to day I've found that Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung Chromebooks are all pretty well made, and are in excellent condition when we receive them. I can think of a few maufacturers that aren't well made however, though that also applies to their Windows kit too. Perhaps you're buying A Suss batch...

I tried Classroom Toolbox, but found that it was basically a web based front-end to GAM, really. I have Bromcom syncing all of our classes, so all I do is produce a list of classes for the teacher user that Bromcom is syncing with as a Google Sheet, and use that user's login and the Sheet to jump into the classes I need. 300+ classes on the Classroom interface slows it down considerably, whereas the Sheet has a link to each classroom.

You could stream it, so it isn't an open meeting, rather a one way information meeting. Then use the Q&A tools in Google Slides or a Google Form to take questions from people and have a Q&A session at the end. Are parents accessing Meets via their child? You can do internal streams if you have what's currently called Enterprise!
