£3.20 per student per year if you're licensing the whole school. If you just want to license staff with the "Teaching and Learning Upgrade" its £2.25 per "faculty member" per month. Very quickly, it becomes cheaper to just license the whole school.

I don't think the limit exists if you upgrade though. Again, its a case of balancing up the budget and working out if the Classroom integrated one's premium features (unlimited, peer-to-peer checking) and all the other things you get with Education Plus (like the extra features in Meet, the extra storage per user) costs less than buying a stand-alone checker. It usually does. And let's face it, Google Search and Scholar APIs are in the backend of all the third party checkers anyway!

I would argue that it's the role of colleges to teach and prepare students, and that a side-effect of that is that they're ready for the workplace because you have given them transferrable skills to do so. What if someone left Post-16 to work for Derby County Community Trust (Office 365) and then moved on 18 months later to go down the road to Burton-Upon-Trent and work for the FA at St. Georges Park (Google Workspace). Then they left there to go and work in the customer engagement department at British Airways (Apple/iPad). At what point did the school/college fail this person by not going down the "industry standard" route? They didn't if they taught transferrable skills rather than "industry standards" (which don't exist)

And so do most of the other suppliers. They're hardly unique in this. Schools, once again, are not training providers for existing products. We aren't there to teach people how to use Word, we teach people how to use a Word Processor. We aren't there to teach them how to use a particular Operating System, we're there to teach them how they function generally. We aren't there to teach them how to use Logic or Pro Tools, we're there to teach them how to use a DAW. We teach them transferrable skills, not particular tools.

I mean that's just utilising the ubiquity of Apple devices. If Tile were to be purchased by Google and the lost device tech integrated into Android, you'd see a similar situation. It's not an industry standard. Itls a dominant monopoly player that Apple would love you to believe is an "industry standard". Pro Tools is used more than Logic. Cubase is huge in Europe as is Ableton. As a school we teach them the techniques to be able to use various different tools. If Apple and the music industry want schools to become Logic training centres, Apple and the music industry should be funding that.

That's my red rag to a bull. Industry standard is a lame excuse which means "I'm not willing to learn." It REALLY means a technical standard everyone sticks to, like the size of screwheads, requirements for certain drugs, or how cars have steering wheels, and a clutch, break and accelerator in the same order. What it doesn't mean is "dominant market player who we're willing to kowtow to". Otherwise, they wouldn't get Garageband or Logic Pro to use - Mac isn't the "industry standard" OS in the world of work. Grrrr.

To be fair to you, you're correct as Tile costs £10 less per device and has a little hole in it so you can attach it to things without paying out £30 for a piece of plastic to do that. £40 if you want leather!

It's not that they can afford to lose it, more so it's probably not worth it to pick it up in the scheme of things. Though I'd be tempted to tell them to pick it up or expect you'll charge them rent for the space being taken up!

I think they'll build them into their devices before too long. But it's classic Apple. Invent something new that already existed and charge double for it. Then charge another £29 - £39 for the piece of polyurethane or leather to hold the thing.

I wasn't there when the original move occurred, but we moved to Bromcom, and its very well liked overall, certainly more so than SIMS! Just having the ability to access it off-site during the lockdowns was a massive boon. It's certainly going to help us moving to a cloud-only future! Don't forget all the third-party and add-on tools you use when considering the move. Consider if the service is included in your alternatives. Add those to the pricing up of your alternatives too, as well as the price of servers and on-site and off-site backups for those servers, SQL licenses etc as you consider the shift.

If they're using a TV, they're still going to be 3m or so away from the TV, so you're still going to be really quite small compared to a head and shoulders shot in front of the machine. If you stand 3m away from a standard webcam and turn it on, you'll probably see your entire height with room to spare. You'd take up no more than about 10/15% of the shot.
